Ryan Harrow: 'This is on me'

Ryan Harrow sat with a towel draped over his bowed head, attempting to verbalize words between halted breaths designed to keep the tears from coming on like a levee broke.

  • Keep your head up, Ryan. This game isn't all on you. This is one of those life moments you have to learn from and then let go.

yep, hopefully these kids can learn from this.

    Tough tough moment.

  • No worries. The play that Harrow kept getting to the basket on and blowing will be dunks next year by the Harrison twins. And Harrow will be playing the role he was meant to play at an elite program.

  • Wow, a lil harsh. Like Wiltjer he needs to hit the weights. Definitely not all his fault though.

  • I didn't really mean it the way it sounded. What I meant was that at this point in his career Harrow should be a backup PG at UK especially for Cal. If he works hard though maybe he can win the spot back as a senior. I don't see any shame in that. There is still time for Harrow. He's just a soph. But he does not have the mental toughness nor physical toughness right to lead a team. He has some serious maturing to do. It takes some kids longer than other. By the time he's a senior he could come out and be one of the best guards in the country.

Why does everything have to be right now? Hell if I was Harrow I'd take my time and enjoy being a kid. Don't rush it. Enjoy the college life but be disciplined and work toward the goal of being the best player he possibly can his senior year. Build towards that. Next year is just another stepping stone toward the ultimate goal.

Same thing for Kyle Wiltjer. People want things way to quickly now days and I don't understand why. Life is a marathon not a sprint and these kids aren't going to get this time in college back. Soak up every second of it. Live it and work toward something special. Take baby steps every day. Thats how you get to greatness. It comes easy for some and it takes time for others.

  • You right. It didn't sound the way you intended but I can agree with your second post. We need players to stay 3 or 4 yrs and I'd love to ha v e wiljter and harrow for their senior years.

Very well put. I agree 100%.

  • Harrow shows a lot of character in trying to shoulder the blame, but the truth is that Cal should be shouldering the blame. He is the coach and the buck stops with him.

    DaVille

  • Harrow not the problem, no shooters, no dominant big (offensively), no leaders, no depth at all and youth...a recipe for a bad year.

  • No maturity mentally on this team. Some selfishness, this team didn't listen to coach the way the 2012 Championship team. You can visibly see on camera Goodwin's attitude, Poythress confidence in himself is low. Wiltjer just is not physical enough and he can't create his shot, he is weak on defense. I really love Jon Hood, he didn't get enough playing time, he always played hard. Mays showed no leadership and didn't show up against Vandy at all. No leader at all. Cauley-Stein impressed me. Polson didn't play again the way he did in Maryland game. Coming back to UK next year will benefit those players willing to buy into what Calipari is teaching. Those recruits taught Coach Cal, NEVER AGAIN.
