SEC title within Kentucky's grasp

Kentucky is three games away from winning the regular season SEC baseball championship. Take care of business at Mississippi State and the Cats will win second league title.

  • Matt, I forgot that we could wrap it up against our former coach. That would add a little cherry on top wouldn't it...

Yeah, it's crazy in a way. Cohen could be involved in both of UK's only two SEC championship celebrations to some degree. I didn't really have anywhere to fit the quotes in but here is what Gary said about playing Cohen this weekend with all this on the line:

"We've only played John my first year here and we played in some of the worst wind I've ever seen. Unbelievable wind in Starkville that weekend. He was (pitching) infielders and we were throwing freshmen and it was a miserable last game. It's like playing anybody you've worked with, it's definitely a little bit different. There is a certain part of you that would rather not play those people for different reasons.

"I've got a pretty good idea of what John wants to do and likes to do and he certainly has a great idea of what I like to do from the pitching end of it having spent five years with him. But once the game starts it's on and John is going to try to win and so are we. That part never changes. It'll be two competitive groups going at it and I think you'll see good pitching from both sides."

  • I'd feel a lot better about winning the SEC if they had let LSU finish their game this weekend...

I think you mean South Carolina. LSU lost 2 of 3 to Vanderbilt. South Carolina split 2 games with Georgia before Sunday's game was rained out.

  • How great would it be to have Kentucky hold the regular season SEC titles in 2 of the big 3 sports? Man that would be awesome, hope those guys can take care of business.

They've got their work cut out for them tomorrow night. State's starter is going to be a 1st round pick in a few weeks. Big time arm. Rogers is going to have to be at his best to give the Cats a chance. Unless the wind is blowing out I can't imagine it's going to be a high scoring game.

  • rgunslinger, it would be fantastic if UK could win its second SEC title among the big 3 sports.

Agree with Matt re tonight's game; have watched that pitcher this year and he can be dominating.

Will be checking scores frequently over the next 3 days. Big series. Would love to see UK win the series, secure a bye in the SEC tournament, and maybe earn a top 8 seed for the NCAA tournament.

  • Last I read the SC/LSU game tonight may be delayed.
