Scholarships

  • This is true, a lot of fans are going to start thinking we should be getting higher rated players but sometimes 3* prospects have more talent than those who are highly ranked. Another problem in Kentucky football has also been developing the talent, jokers staff couldn't do it but hopefully we can with the new staff, Dj Eliot molded 3 star defensive ends into sack machines and all ACC players. nonetheless the future looks bright but will take a little time.

That leaves 22 spots open to sign, resulting in 91 scholarship players (92 if you include Harmon). 6 or 7 more players will not be carried to the '13 roster that are currently listed on scholarship in order to have a full class and be under the 85 limit.

  • ok thank you, i still believe we need atleast one more offensive lineman to replace. what do you think of david maka? the center position is still up in the air.

  • Personally think theyre going to take Maka and then one of him or Peterson will play DT and the other will be a C

    Thinks its telling right now that Maka is the only non comitted OL scheduled to visit before signing day. Also a tip off IMO that Logan Cart moved on

  • Logan dropped UK bc they recruited over him and he felt like he wouldn't play at C, but former coach Summers is recruiting him to WKU to play on the Dline

  • That was my point with Cart if the staff didnt feel like they could get Maka theyd have done more to stay involved with Cart

I thought Bodkin and Boynton were both no longer commited. Seems like I read that somewhere. This 69 doesn't include Harmon either. So, there's definately going to be some attrition that'll have to happen.. You figure 2 or 3 will likely be academic casualties and another 2-3 will likely opt to transfer, still leaving 3-5 players having to be told to look elsewhere. I don't like it, but, this is an unfortunate fact of life in the game of recruiting in a bigtime conference. Teams like Bama, Florida, Ga etc, routinely have to let some go and hurt some feelings. Just the way it is to make the numbers work. Some just happen to be more experienced at it than we are.

    I believe that I have seen on this board in the past that technically scholarships are in essence 1 year contracts. In other words, we could decide not to renew certain scholarships. Is this what is being referenced on this board as other big time schools ask players to leave because they will not renew their scholarship? I was surprised at this. I would think a school that did this would be raked over the coals by the local and national media. Is this a normal occurance for schools not to renew scholarships into the next year? Have we ever done this before? TIA GO CATS!!!

    No, the 69 doesn't count the 3 that just enrolled..

    I believe if a player grey shirts they don't count against the limit for this year, Bama and Georgia seem to do it more often, like rollover minutes over and over again.

    There is something else common about Bama & Georgia, but I just can't remember what it was.
