Scoreboard watching as UK eyes NCAA

Kentucky fans are as a nervous as, well, Cats in a room full of rocking chairs as conference tournaments continue leading up to the 2013 NCAA Tournament bracket on Sunday.

  • Is it bad of me to be more nervous about Randle and Wiggins?

  • What I can't understand is how Missouri can be a lock for the tournament and they finished sixth in the conference. It definitely hurt that the SEC was so young this year when they lost important games to improve rpi. I think a lot of teams have improved dramatically since then. But definitely don't understand the Missouri deal.

SEC teams does a stupid job out of conference. That's the problem. I will never believe that there are that many team better than UK in mid majors. I just don't.

I don't think they can't physically and athletically keep up with UK, or other SEC team at end of the season.

  • From UK perspective, they have some wins UK doesn't. Tigers beat Alabama and Arkansas plus Florida and Ole Miss. Also, Stanford, VCU and Illinois. Of course, Mizzou beat Ala and Ark at home while UK lost to both on road. Go figure.

Mizzou also lost to Arkansas and Ole Miss. Any bets on what would have happened if UK had each of them on the schedule twice. By the same logic, I could argue that UK beat Tennessee and A&M while Mizzou lost to both of them.

I still contend that one week established a public perception of this team that it has not been able to shake. The back-to-back losses against Notre Dame and Baylor caused the team's ranking to plummet and it has been unable to recover since. Every time it seemed they were digging themselves out of that hole, they had a loss that dropped them right back down again (the same kind of losses that almost every other good but inconsistent team was suffering). Add that, I believe, UK is being measured against the past three teams at UK instead of the top 40 teams in the country THIS year.

Once you get past the top 8-10 teams, you could throw the next 40 in a hat and find little significant difference in the quality of those teams. UK would certainly be among those 40.
