Smith makes the call for UK

Kentucky became the first SEC school to offer Greensboro (Ala.) West wide receiver Jevontey Smith earlier this month and it didn't take him long for him to jump on it.

  • Auburn Undercover's Bryan Matthews, who saw Smith camp at Auburn:

"I like him better on D but very productive player with good size, frame."

  • Thanks for the write-up, Chris.

It will be interesting to see how many WRs we take. Or, in the long run, if he ends up on D.

I'm glad that Washington chose this kid, at least that is my assumption since he ran drills for us and Washington is the WR coach. I will like to both see how his recruits develop and how he develops the kids we already have

  • thanks CFISH!! Nice get for Pat. Ol' Pat knows how to develop wideouts with the best of em. Fromhis film, Jevontey looks to have nice speed, open field moves, and a knack for making a short catch into a long TD. Caught some balls in traffic and held on when hit..so i like what I see so far!!

I see Jevontey staying at Wr.. and I hope here is our WR list for 2013..Timmons..Yancey, C.Cooper..and mabye Jonathan Howard a 6'5 200 wr fromRochelle, Ga that has us warm..JH or a Mykal Moody would suit me just fine!!

  • Thanks fish!

Remember when we played MTSU a few years back how well their WR's caught the ball? They could catch anything and everything so their staff clearly has an eye for talented WR's. I like this pickup.

  • Should the quote not be "me and coach washington" and not "me have coach washington" ?!

I also remember a time when MTSU was Randall Cobb's only other offer heading into this senior year. Like Cobb, I could see Smith on either side of the ball. After a couple of years in the S&C program, I could see him pushing 200 lb without losing a step.

  • Big, fast kid that snatches the ball at its highest point and wins the jump balls.

    What's not to like?

  • From Rick Noush over at KSR College:
Another great upside for Smith is that he is a smart kid that will be graduating High School in December, and starting classes at UK in the Spring, allowing him to practice and have the opportunity to get some playing time as a True Freshman.

Would like to see us get a few more kids like this .. our SEC brethren seem to have several each season.
