So what happens now?

  • After this loss what do you think will happen with this UK team? Will they put up a fight against Florida? Will the shut it down for the year? Is it possible to make a run in the SECT and get in? Or do they go into the NIT and just put the same effort they did tonight?

  • They're done. Just smile and wave at them on their way to the league and thank them for the "effort."

  • I have no reason to believe they are going to do anything other than go through the motions the rest of the year...that's all they've done so far so why would anything change now???

The only good thing they could do for us now is finish out their classes in the spring semester and not totally screw us over.

I hope to keep poythress, WCS, and Wiltjer but wave bye to Goodwin and Harrow and say good riddance. It has been an absolute torment watching them play. For some reason, even though I am a realist I guess, I still continue to watch though; I guess blue blood just runs to deep too quit watching. loco

  • Just sad that we couldn't at least get to the tourney this year. I realize we faced a whole lot of hardship but an NIT appearance is simply unacceptable. I hope next years team comes in with a chip on their shoulder because of the inadequacies of this years team. And they just light the college basketball world on fire.

  • You know, being a great player on your high school team doesn't alway transfer to being a good player on a college team. All of these guys were the best from where they were from, they just lack really basic fundamentals. They can't set a great pick, don't know how to block out, and they have not the savvy on how to get around a pick. Free throw shooting is always a sure sign that working hard on something is not something they do. Great players, like Davis, who said after a couple of early games shooting bricks while at the foul line said he was embarrased and that he would improve and he did. This group overall lacked basketball sense on the floor on where to be and how to pass the ball. Kyle has the most knowledge but he is limited on the defensive side of the ball so you have to play him in spots so that he doesn't hurt you on defense. Turnovers are always something that we have seen with the young freshmen but gradually you see that improve by January but not this year. We are still making the SAME mistakes that we did at the beginning of the season which is a telling sign of why we are playing as we do on the road.

  • I'm not very optimistic about the Florida game. It's a short turn around which we've been dreadful in all season. And a better opponent.

I still haven't given up hope that in the 4-5 days in between the Florida game and the SEC tournament that the light bulb may come on as they are forced into the situation of their season ending finally being a reality. Maybe that will trigger something. Who knows.

  • We still got a chance. For some reason the last two games on the road we haven't played with the same energy that we played with against Mizzou. If we come out at home on Senior Day against UF with that same kind of energy we showed against Mizzou and catch UF on an off day we might have a shot. Then I think we'll still need to get to the finals of the SEC tourney to get into the Dance.

Senior Day? The team is going to come out fired up to send off Mays? Yes, he has really layed out quite a legacy in his 4, oh wait 1 year. And wasnt it a must win like two games ago. How is it that if we didnt beat Arkansas we were out, yet we follow that up with a loss to UGA but we still have a chance? I just dont see it nor does this team deserve it. Lets face it, this team got the big head with all the exposure and have never come back to the reality that they are not good.

  • I didn't say it was likely.

  • I'm waiting until the season is over to pass ultimate judgement on this team. At this point I'm preparing to unleash on them. I have next to zero faith that they will do anything other than embarrass themselves and us in the process against Florida and in the SEC Tournament. I hope I'm wrong, of course, but I've been hoping for things all season and this team has rarely had any of the answers. I'll be watching, cheering, and hoping once again this Saturday.

While it is simple to say, these kids come in with a work ethic or not. And given how the teams are put together, if the players do not give consistent effort, there are no alternatives. The players have to play or there is a huge drop off in talent.

Why would next year's class have a chip on their shoulder? Those players did not suffer through this season. The ones that will play were HS or prep players during this year.

Borrow money from a pessimist -- they don't expect it back.

  • This team is finished. Stick a fork in them, they're done. I hate to say that, but after watching the last 2 games I have no more illusions about what this team can be except to be finished.
Still might get into the NCAA, but if they do it'll be one the back of last year's team, and truthfully, this team doesn't deserve it. Not even sure if they'd represent in the NIT, even if they got a couple of games in Rupp or Memorial.
I hate saying this, but in my estimation that's all there is to say about this group.

Because they might actually care about their chosen school and will want to erase this embarrassment called a 2013 season from the fans and opponents memories.

  • Ok, Arkansas was not a must win for us IF we beat Florida, which we did. The problem is the Georgia loss but atleast it was on the road, but still, that one may have done us in. We have to win a few games in the SEC T and we could still see ourselves get in. Some of you "fans" need to wait till the season is over before you go chastising the team like that. We got a win that we had to have today, now we need a few more and the good thing about this team is they play good infront of the BBN, which shows up for the SECT.

    MossCat15

  • It's really hard to figure out what's going to happen. Does this coupled with Mizzou give UK enough "signature" wins?? Candidly, the Cats have had really only one dreadful performance and I don't see how they are not one of the best 64 teams in the country. 2 wins in the SEC tourney should put them over the top, one I think makes Selection Sunday a nail biter. Bottom line is UK did what they had to do today to at least have a shot minus winning the SEC tourney out right. That is going to be a very tall order with this years club but still possible.

    ukaveman

  • It's still very possible actually. Just have to hope our fans will still travel for this team.

    MossCat15

  • I think we're in at this point. Not a lock we still need to win a couple in the tourney but if they selected teams today I think we'd get in.

    tWhit

  • Whoops.
