  • Will UK/Barnhart make the same move that Tennessee made 3 years ago and hire the Louisiana Tech coach as our head coach. Remember, he and Franklin coached under Mumme so that is one strike against them. But, LT is 3-0 this season including beating Houston(56-49) on the road and Illinois on the road(52-24). The only tough games are Texas A&M and Virginia for LT. They should be favored in the remaining 7 games. What does everyone think about this hire for UK, the same offense that Mumme/Leach runs from coaches that were not implicated in the recruiting allegations?

I addition to offense, his DC is supposed to be very good. The DC, blanking on his name, played at UGA and knows the south very well. If we don't get Dykes he may end up the next coach at Texas Tech. From the mid major ranks I really like Dykes, Mark Hudspeth, ULL and Dave Doeren, NIL. Any of those would be good, but we may need some wow factor from some big name. It will be interesting as it rolls out.

  • He's no. 2 on my list behind petrino. So I'd like the hire. I think they bust Virginia this week also.

    jeffries123

  • Nope. Gimmick offenese would get killed in the SEC. Also he's a lot like Mumme when it comes to defense. Not a high priority. Hudspeth is my #2.

Actually the is false. Go read about La Tech's defense. They have been very good the last 2 years. They were terrible under Dooley.

Actually I'm right. LT gave up 693 yards against Houston. This is the same Houston team that only gained 324 yards against Texas State! Then LT gave up 477 yards to Rice. That's 1170 yards in two games to two bad teams. No thanks!

    footballcat65

  • They're 4-0 already and will probably end up 11-1 or 10-2. Yeah there defense isn't that great but he wins games. They also just went into Illinois and beat them 52-24. I would say that's better than anything we've done this year. Sign me up. The only? I have is could he bring back Tony Franklin which is his OC.

Look at the body or work the La Tech DC has put together. Face it, if they beat UVA next week they will have beated a Big Ten, ACC, and Conference USA team in the first 4 games of the season. Dykes is a really good coach as are some of the other mid majors like Hudspeth and Doeren.

I agree 4-0 and is nice. But look at the competition. Illinois, Houston and Rice are not the SEC. If you let Houston get 693 yards on you USCjr will get 1200. No thanks! Hell Spurries defense would kill Spikes scheme as well. Need a real football coach. No gimmick guys. This is the SEC not the WAC

    footballcat65

  • He's playing with mid major talent as well. You would think his offense and defense would improve with sec level talent. IF he could recruit it. Its still impressive that they went into a big 10 home stadium and routed Illinois. That defense causes 3 to's also in that game. If nothing else it would be entertaining.

I agree. Gimmicks don't work in the SEC. You ahve to be balanced. Our best teams under Brooks were very balanced. Recall how effective we were running the ball and how good we were at play-action.. To win in the SEC you must be balanced.

The Illinois win was a nice win. But in saying that Illinois isn't that good this year. Don't get me wrong I think Dykes is a good offensive mind and will win games wherever he is. But his sheme's is like Mumme's. It's fine if your opponents only see's it once, it will work. But as we seen with Mumme it just doesn't work long term.

As for the 3 to's that was nice but you just can't give up 693 yards to anyone no matter what kind of talent you have.

304 yards passing and 232 yards rushing isn't balanced. Man, I would take every day of the week.

Have to agree. That's pretty balanced. Still don't think scheme would be successful in the SEC though.

I'm a recent graduate of Texas State and our first FBS game ever was on the road to Houston and we stomped them. Tx State has like 70 guys on scholarship and got whipped by TX Tech by like 40 the next week and barely beat a former FCS rival. Houston is likely as bad as it gets this year.

Thanks for the info. Also where in the hell is Texas State located?

  • The gimmick style offenses haven't worked. Look at Auburn. Without Cam Newton the Malzhan gimmick has flopped. Look to Mizzou so far.

Good post Hop. In fact Auburn has had 3 or 4 straight top ten recruiting classes. They have a ton of talent but aren't doing crap with it!

  • A lot of people said urban Meyers offense wouldn't work either.

    jeffries123

  • Meyer's offense was a sound scheme that was well balanced. It should be noted that the production want nearly as good without tebow
