This is actually a good post because it brings to point the biggest problem with Mumme ball. La Tech put up 57 against Texas A&M. Texas A&M put up 59. Air raid defenses are flat out ATROCIOUS. I don't know what it is going to take for UK fans to understand that defense is the most important part of the game. Look at USC last year, they lost Lattimore, yet still won. Why? Because they absolutely shut people down offensively and scored enough to win. How did LSU and Florida beat aTm? Because they shut the air raid down in the second half.
If all you want is 7 wins a year, then yeah, the air raid is a "match made in BigBlue heaven". If you want UK to actually start competing for SEC championships, then it is not the right choice. Not a horrible plan D, but would be a disappointing hire for me. We tried it in the 90's. It didn't work.

You know what they also get? Top 5 recruiting classes. That's the thing about defenses, you HAVE to have great players. The right offensive scheme can make up the difference in talent, see La Tech with WAC players keeping it close against TAMU. I want a solid defensive coach like everyone else, that just may have to come after we get the program back to .500. Right now we need someone that can get us back to the Rich Brooks level before we start trying to compete for a SEC title.
I am not a "THROW IT DEEEEEP JAY-RUD!!!" fan, but bringing in an offensive coach is probably the best route to go right now. Let him bring us back to respectability then try to make a move for a big time defensive guy.

Offense sell tickets...Offense brings the program exposure...Exposure brings the players. Once UK has top 25 talent...They can pretty much run anything they want...Until then, UK has to compete w/ less than ALA/ LSU / UGA/ UF & even Vandy...Dykes system makes that possible a helluva lot sooner than any DEF coach could in = time. His system helps to overcome the SEC talent gap. 3yds & a cloud of dust doesn't...Not when your only getting 1.5yds w/ a 3-n-out!

I think he will be our next coach. He is a great offensive coach and has been at UK before and I think that he would get us back to a bowl next season and could build from that success with a great recruiting class the following year on to a chance a 10 win season in year 2. I think he would be a great hire
