Sounding like SC O-Lineman Justin Day may have committed

  • Trying to follow up with him or a coach at his school. He's been a tough one to track down, but some indications via Twitter that he might be a Wildcat.

  • Break out the blood hounds and find his young man. I have a feeling the gates are about to open and we are fixing to be really happy with the verbals we are fixing to hear from GO CATS

  • Interesting. Please let Thomas or Timmons be next, although I expect the Timmons recruitment to play out a lot longer.

  • it has been confirmed that he has committed to Kentucky

  • Very interesting kid. Just interviewed him and his coach. He has never played OL in a game before. He had come up as a DE. On the week that they decided to try him at LT this spring, Greg Nord happened to see him and was blown away. His coach calls him an "athletic 6-8, 290" right now. He's going to be 330+ with ease.

Day's stepdad grew up in Lexington and is a big UK fan. Definitely helped.

Also... This is his 18th birthday. He wanted to commit on his birthday.

well let's all welcome him aboard!! And what a way to celebrate your birthday!! Congrats young man and look forward to seeing him on the OL for years to come!! What a day for Nord to come visit his school huh?

  • Jimmy from another site says on twitter thatThomas may wait a little while longer. Seems like he may be taking one more visit but I think its all just part of the process and a matter of time before he commits.

    Damn!!

One thing is for sure, UK is "DUE" for one of these stories to go their way.

  • Day's coach was extremely complimentary of the UK staff. Said they do a great job of staying in touch, and he thought their camp was one of the best run and best teaching camps they had been two. They've been two years in a row now, and plan on coming back next year.

  • Way early but never too early... What kind of talent do they have for next year?

I've sent out a couple of feelers on that. Hoping our SC guy can fill us in a bit.

  • There's a video on youtube of Justin playing DE for South Aiken, but I don't recommend it. Not only is it not his college position, but it's not a flattering video of his footwork.

However, a Google search for "Justin Day South Aiken" will turn up a SC OL/DL camp (from an competing football recruiting website) with Justin performing from a 2pt stance and demonstrating pretty good footwork and extension. Like most HS linemen, he will need to work on his hip bend and his anchor, but he's a lean athletic kid that could really develop into a competent LT with dedication in the weightroom.

He might be something of a project, most likely due to his lack of time at the position, but he's certainly a guy I would classify as "toolsy."

even if he is a project you take him. plus i'm sure we'll get another OL and DL in this class. if we can get an impact LB or two i'd be thrilled and one or two WRs.

Bo Baldwin their QB is getting interest from a lot of big schools. He's a pro style guy but probably worth keeping an eye on for UK interest

  • sounds like we have a good relationship with the coach there if he has come here from South Carolina 2 years in a row now.

  • Is this guy a potential beast or not? Will the learning curve going from DE to OT be steep? Seems big and athletic since he played DE before the move to OT.

    tWhit

  • Usually what I have noticed that when you take a defensive guy and move him over to the offensive side of the line they bring the defensive mentality of nastiness. I like that. I hope this young man does that. I like our offensive line with an edge to them. If Nord was wowed by him, I'm sure that he can coach him into his potential which seems pretty good.

Just curious, but what makes one feel this way? UK is in desperate need of tackles that can contribute ASAP. Their other tackle (Boyton) is also a project. Last year's class included 1, possibly 2 tackles in Swindle and Toth. The expectation is that it will take both of those guys a while before they may be ready. Why wouldn't you focus on landing a guy or two that can play right away? Outside of Darrien Miller, who are the other tackles you see playing next year?

You forgot to mention T.J. Jones, projected at LT. To be honest, all high school linemen are going to be projects.

    Why so serious?
