South Carolina Game "what If's"

  • "If" the defense shows up like it did in the first quarter of the Florida game.

"If" Maxwell Smith is healthy and plays well.

"If" our offensive line holds their own against USCjr's dynamic defensive line.

"If" we protect the ball and win the turnover battle.

"If" all that happens, can UK put themselves in a position to pull the upset? Is it even possible, or is USCjr just too much for this UK team even "if" we bring our 'A' game?

I am not used to feeling like there is zero chance in winning a game like I am about the game this Saturday. Someone pump some sunshine in me.

What would it take to pull the upset?

  • All of the above and SC beating themselves. There is a ray of hope! Every team can and usually does have at least one bad game where nothing clicks and they beat themselves. Let's hope it's Saturday for SC. With that being said, I wouldn't go out and bet any $$ on it.

Agreed. Max being 100% is looking less likely today. If he cant go at least we will get to see Whitlow play some and quell some curiosity.

  • If "ifs" and "buts" were candy and nuts it would be Christmas every day.

  • Man I feel for some of you all around here, holding onto to every last straw with UK football...Don't know to admire you or shake my head shrug

Its real simple in this game..UK can't stop the Run, Won't be able to block their front 4, and like most occasions, UK will make a Steve Spurrier coached QB look like the next Dan Marino....

  • Remember that there starter is dealing with the same thing as Max. Game could get interesting if both starting qb's go out but we need to stop Lattimore to even give us a chance and try to slow down Shaw. I hope the staff decides to finally have a game plan like it's no tomorrow and leave all on the line cause in a truth, there really isn't.

  • Their starter isn't standing behind our line and looking at their front seven. So it's not exactly the same.

That's the state of UK football. Either you dwell on the fact it is a complete disaster, or you try and find things to root for.

Back to the topic. Anyone else have any ideas of what it would take for UK to pull the upset?

  • Someone needs to call Lattimore and Clowney and tell them the game has been rescheduled for Sunday. I think if that happens UK can stay within 2-3 TDs. If they show up, this score is whatever Spurrier wants it to be.

I said I wouldn't bet any money on it. Can you not read between the lines?!

    Score more points than USC.

Seriously UK must be able to handle the pressure of the USC front four to give Smith if he is able to play enough time to implement the short passing game and UK must establish enough of a running game to keep the USC defense honest.

The UK defense must play the entire game like it did at the start of the UofF game and the USC offense must cooperate and turn the ball over multiple times.

  • I usually see some optimism somewhere but not this week. WE had the table set for an upset last week against Florida that was in a classic let down week but lost are QB and our chances.

This week we see USCjr coming in as perhaps the hottest team in the SEC. They had an easy time putting away Mizzo last week and their hitting on all cylinders.

We have matchup problems all over the field especially with their DEs vs our tackles (who are playing good but there are still out-manned) a QB with a big gun, Latimore, and Ace Sanders maybe the best receiver in the SEC people haven't heard about yet.

If there is a weakness on this team it is their O-line which is nothing special but against our undersized Dline without PC, that shouldn't be a problem

We have enough topics about the how we have no chance and are sucking. Joker is going to be replaced at the end of the year unless he pulls a rabbit out of his hat. We have beaten that dead horse to death repeatedly.

So, what harm is there in actually talking football? Without sarcasm, what do you think would need to happen for UK to pull the upset this Saturday in Lexington?

  • There's no harm I don't guess. The only way for UK to win? If the entire south carolina team somehow dies or gets food poisoning. Maybe if they get lost on the way to the stadium. I know you said not to be sarcastic but these are literally the only ways for UK to win.

  • I'm doing my wishful thinking here, Cats win in a shootout, 38-34.

Mad Max goes off for 400+ and four tds

George for 100+ and one td

Sweat gets loose for 10 catches, 135 yds, 2 td

King, the old possession receiver, 8 for 125 catches a fade in the corner for the winning td. Same side as Cobb caught it two years ago to beat SCjr.
Collins, 8 catches for 125, catches 45 yarder up the seam for his td
Shields catches 3 important balls to keep late drive alive.

Clowney is doubled all night only gets a couple of hurries. we run right at him for most of Georges yards

Shaw is harassed all night by Dupree and Ukwu, dropped four times and hurried 12 times.

    Go Cats!!!
    Don't wake me...
