Spring Football Game update: Ticketed event this year

  • The annual Kentucky Football Blue/White Spring Game, set for Saturday, April 13, at 7 p.m. at Commonwealth Stadium, will be a ticketed event this year with reserved seating.

A special availability for season ticket holders for the free tickets will begin Thursday, Feb. 28, at 9 a.m. Current season ticket holders will receive an e-mail this week detailing how they may obtain up to eight reserved seats:

    Online at TicketMaster.com
    By calling TicketMaster at 800-745-3000
In person at TicketMaster outlets in Kentucky
NOTE: Tickets are free but there is a small service charge per ticket

UK students may obtain their free tickets beginning Thursday at 9 a.m. at the Joe Craft Center ticket office. Students may pick up two tickets per ID.

Remaining tickets will be available to the general public through the same TicketMaster channels beginning Monday, March 11 at 9 a.m.

  • What do you think the positives are by going this route Matt?

Just a though here...It might allow those trying to "sell" the program get a feel in advance for how what kind of attendance there will be for the game. Thus, they can figure out what, if anything, needs to be done in order to boost attendance.

  • Does anyone know if it will be televised at all? Like the next day or anything? I don't remember ever seeing it on TV in the past, and I won't be able to attend, so I figure I'm just flat out of luck. But it never hurts to ask.

  • Helps to know approx. attendance in advance for any promotional handouts they give. If each year they make a bigger and bigger push to make this a really special event to attract the fans, starting out from the start with it being a ticket event will help them know each year what attendance to expect leading up to the event. It's hard to plan any promotional type things if you only get 5,000 fans. And it's a waste of money to invest money for 20,000 and have 5,000 show up. I believe this is for plannng purposes more than anything.

I think this is a positive announcement. Obviously, a big crowd is expected and this will give everyone an assigned seat that will make people sit closer which will make the crowd look "fuller," and more organized, if that makes sense.

I will be attending and am a season ticket holder. I will be needing at least 4 tickets. For any vip member of this site that is not a football season ticket holder, I am willing to get up to 4 extra tickets. I will not know until tomorrow as to how many tickets I will actually be using, but will post when I find out if anyone needs tickets and I don't need the full eight.

This is a great opportunity for those that aren't able to shell out the money for tickets to make it to a game during the season to be able to get into the stadium and feel the excitement that will likely be extremely high at the spring game this year. Plus, you will be doing something that to a certain degree, imo, is just as or maybe more important than attending a game in the fall because of the impression we can make on numerous prospective recruits that will be in attendance for the spring game.

BIG Blue Dawg, are you a season ticket holder? I imagine that you are, but if not please let me know if you are interested in going. I love your enthusiam, even if you are from Breathitt County (LOL). GO CATS!!!

Exactly. Not to mention planning for things like concessions etc as well.

I highly doubt it's televised as it never has been before and it would limit the number of people who turn up for it. You can always listen to it on your local UK radio station affiliate though.

This is GREAT!!!! Rob Bromley just reported that over 23,000 were purchased on the first day. Non season ticket holders cannot purchase until March 11, so hopefully many more will go. Let's shock the world and fill the house. That would help this staff so much in recruiting that they would have a shot at a top 5 class. CONGRATULATIONS, AND KEEP IT UP BBN!!! GO CATS!!!

That's a big number for sure and will probably go up but I think a whole lot of non-season ticket holders got in today because several people publicized the TicketMaster code.

Personally I have no problem that the code got out. I realize you want to let season ticket holders get a shot at good seats but come on, it is the spring game. My only complaint is letting ticketmaster handle the sales. They made over $20,000 off of free tickets. The UK ticket office should handle the sales and if any fee is charged it goes to UK. Just like with BBM, ticket master only opens the door for scalpers to get online and scoop up tickets to try and sale at inflated prices. That is the problem with everything that goes thru ticketmaster.

  • What a miserable life some lead if they are upset over a code being released from something that will never ever sell out.

I'm a season ticket holder. Frankly, I am going to move to the upper deck on the 3rd row to my seats because I like my view better.

Nobody is 'upset'. That's not even remotely what I was saying. I was just responding to a poster who said only season ticket holders had been able to get tickets yesterday. That wasn't the case. Doesn't change a thing in regard to there being more interest and enthusiasm than at any point I can remember. That's great for Kentucky football.

    I'm sorry. I wasn't referencing you, that's why I didn't quote your comment.

There is a thread on another site where about 2/3 of the people are blasting the person who released the info.

Gotcha. That's just silly. What it did was make a bigger splash for UK. Instead of ultimately having 30,000 or so there but having those numbers spread out over a few weeks time, it made one big splash that makes headlines. That's what UK needs right now. I wouldn't be surprised if it was orchestrated behind the scenes to be honest.
