Stacey Poole's Stats (not impressive)

  • Games Played: 16
    Minutes/game: 7.4
    Points/game: 1.5
    Rebounds/game: 1.6
    Assists/game: 0.4
    FG%: 22.9%

Meanwhile his 5-star PG freshman brother, Solomon, is only averaging 9.3 minutes per game and scoring 1.9 points per game, to go with 0.8 rebounds per game and 1.1 assists per game. Keep in mind they both play on a very bad Georgia Tech team.

Can anyone recall a pair of brothers that at least at this stage in their young careers were so over-rated coming out of High School?

Here was Jerry Meyer's evaluation of Stacey Poole:
"Poole is an elite athlete's in regard to explosiveness, strength and body control. He excels at attacking the basket, drawing contact and finishing."

Meyer also rated Stacey Poole as the 2nd best defender among all the small and power forwards in the 2010. The one thing that always suprised me about Stacey Poole, in the little time we saw him play at UK, is that he never struck me as someone who was an elite athlete or an amazing dunker like he was billed as coming in here. I was really excited when he signed here because I thought he would replace Liggins as the team's elite wing defender. Anyway, I hope he has a much better final 2 seasons of bball, he always seemed like a nice dude. He probably would've been better off staying here like I think he wanted to (his dad seemed to make the transfer decision), although a Georgia Tech education will likely serve him better in the long run.

Just think, he could have played a huge role on this years squad, I bet you he is kicking himself over it.

Wow! Care to explain? What is his major? I doubt there is a school better than UK in everything.

  • The thing about Poole that always stood out to me is the fact that it seemed like there wasn't one aspect of the game that he was particularly strong at. Not ball handling, shooting, passing, just wasn't very skilled at all. And on top of that he wasn't a great athlete nor did he have great size or length. As opposed to a kid like Liggins who had elite quickness, good size for his position, length, and ball handling ability. Poole just never stood out to me in any way. Kinda sad.

  • Yeah, nothing about Poole's game stood out to me either. I do think though his experience with being in the system for a couple of years and providing depth in the bench would have paid off big time this year. However, I still wasn't particularly sad when he left. Oh well.

  • Poole was your classic "Tweener". Too small at 6'3 6'4 to be a 3, not a good enough shooter to play the 2 or a good enough handle to play the point. . A good guy to have on your bench though to provide some depth and use in certain situations. Solid defender and good slasher and was a solid athlete..

Why would a guy who has played a minimal role on a bad GT team played a "huge" role had he stayed at UK?

Lock down defender, and I think Cal would have been a better teacher than whoever is at GT.

If he had stayed at UK, I suspect Poole would have played a role this year very similar to what we saw with Hood. Nothing more.

Agree 100 percent. Jack of all trades, master of none.

All in all, just not a very skilled basketball player. When you combine that with poor practice habits, not a recipe for success.

Lock down defender? He struggled to defend when he was at UK before and I'm not sure that he would be a lock down defender now. In addition, he can't shoot a lick and the last thing we need is another guy who is offensivly limited. Poole was right to transfer, but he probably should have went several more rungs down the latter to find a place he can play. IMO Poole is simply a recruiting miss.
