Thought it was a great piece...really think if players had to stay at least 2 years in college would really benefit them in more ways than one. I just wonder if the players association will ever make moves toward changing the age limit

It did attack it from the NBA point of view. However, it shouldn't be College Basketball's responsibility to teach many of these "kids" life skills. It should be their parents. College isn't for everyone and if wasn't for this rule many wouldn't play college basketball, they would bypass it for the NBA or go overseas playing professionally. Which is what they should be doing. Many of the players have no interest in getting an education, nor attending classes, nor being a member of the campus community. Because the NBA has a "stupid" rule and Steve Kerr thinks it should be raised by a year ignores the fact that many times college coaches, administrators, and professors are nothing but babysitters for players that have no interest in being supervised and or taught to be a professional in life.

I'm not saying it's wrong, but college campuses shouldn't be used for this and raising the age limit by a year isn't gonna all of a sudden teach these guys "how to be a professional or a man for that matter". NBA needs to fund a legitimate minor league and guys like Steve Kerr need to understand that college is an institution for an education and to grow as a human. Not a babysitter or backstop for players that have no interest in an education nor growing as a person.

I applaud Cal and the way he has approached this and executed it. But for every DeAndre Liggins turnaround story there are 50 that turn out bad. I'm afraid to know the road Liggins would have went down if Clyde would've stayed. I have admiration for Cal for truly caring about the players and their personal growth in such a short time. I also have admiration for guys like Izzo that do it a different way but are still highly successful. But this is not what college baskeball should be about nor should legitimate coaches and athletic directors be put in a position to deal with it.

but how many Calipari's are there in college basketball. Look at the SEC, Arkansas problems with Pelphrey, Darrin Horn canned after 3 years, Renardo Sydney, Trent Johnson gone.

Cal truly is a special coach doing it the right way with the rules set up. Guys that have no interest in going to college should be able to play in a legit minor league making a fair salary (20-40K) to play professionally if their good enough or head to Europe. The ones that do have an interest in education shouldn't have scholarships taken up by the Renardo Sydneys of the world.

On a related note, did you guys see where John Wall shot 7 percent -- 7!!! -- from 3-point range this season. He was 3-for-42.

Obviously, a big-time talent, but think about how he could have developed his J a little more if he was coming up 20 years ago.
