Stoops evaluating Kentucky roster

Mark Stoops has had to make quick evaluations of Kentucky's current football roster in an effort to address his new staff's recruiting plan.

  • I think you can get a feel watching what the new staff is attacking and have a pretty good idea of are biggest weaknesses. We need lot after watching last year. I do believe 6 wins next year isnt impossible with the current talent

  • I love the attitude towards this project that Stoops and his staff have taken on. They really are going to leave no stone unturned & I think it will equate into success sooner than later. I think we win 4-5 next year and 7-8 the year after with this staff. I honestly don't think we will hold onto Stoops for more than 5 years tops.

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I, I took the one less traveled by, and it has made all the difference (Frost).

  • I understand people thinking if he has success he leaves. But my argument is we are in the Sec east the weaker side if he elevates uk to the point big time offers come in why would you leave?

    quagmire

  • Given Kentucky's few successes over the years, it would be my hope that if Stoops does achieve success that he will want to stay and make that success @ Kentucky as his legacy to the game of college football.

He came here on a mission, and I hope that mission is to make his mark on college football as the football of the Kentucky Wildcats football program. JMHO, & my hopes for our football program.

  • I'm not going to worry about him leaving until he actually has success. Lets see what he does first then talk about whether or not we can hang on to him.

  • Yeah Josh it is strange every commit is saying they are solid. I think it will play itself out in the end.

  • There was a reason why UK went 2 and 10 this past season,as Coach Stoops is finding out.Simply put.there are'nt many SEC caliber football players on UK's roster. So let's hope and pray he can release some of these guys, bring in some solid Juco's,have better recruits and get this moribund program turned around.

New defense scheme. New offensive system. New special teams. Likely going to start a ton of sophomores with little quality depth. New coaches. New terminology. New philosophies. Tough schedule.

It would surprise me for sure if we won 8 games next yr. wow! 8?

I would have a heart attack if UK won 8+ games next year.

The good news is that once I came out of unconsciousness, I would have a smile on my face. :-)

Yep and like the article said Stoops has got to find players to fit those systems. Not an easy proposition for next year. Hopefully in the years to come it will be easier. People thinking we could win more than 5-6 games are crazy. I think we'll clearly be better but I'm not sure if that will show up in the wins column.

  • Where does DJ Warren fit in or does he? I can't imagine there is not much of a need for a FB in this offense. Can he switch positions? LB/TE?

I have to agree with this assessment. Yeah, it could be done, but not likely, truthfully. It would be nice though. At this point I just want to see some progress being made after 2 or 3 years. That's when I believe we will see progress by our new staff and our even newer players.

I have real hope(finally!)that Coach Stoops can accomplish what he came here to do. But given the state of the program post CJP, it is going to take some time and a lot of hard work on the recruiting trail to turn this situation around.

But let's all face the truth here........ Coach Stoops has taken over a terrible football program that has historically been an SEC bottom dweller for eons. It is going to take awhile for him to change what has kept happening @ Kentucky for as long as I can remember. And since I'm almost 60, that's been a long while.

  • I believe if this staff can grab 5-6 4*'s yearly (along with solid 3*'s) this staff can succeed at UK. If CMS shows he canvwin here, the fan support will be there. The more he wins the better the chances are of the administration plowing more money into facilities and the program in general on a consistent basis. If Stoops and Comapny pull that off, the administration has the resources to keep them here, IMO.

I would have to disagree with that. The reason we went 2 and 10 was we had very little talent or experience with the junior and senior classes and the injury bug hit the players we did have pretty hard (plus other reasons relating to the previous staff)

WE do have a lot of quality SEC players but they are mostly freshmen, RS freshmen or true sophomores.

  • I thought it was interesting that he spoke with some recruits about exploring other options. I wonder if a recruit who was committed had no other options did he pull the offer? Would seem you have a chance to alienate some parts of the country by doing that if the kid didn't have somewhere to go.

  • Paxcat,I was wondering the same thing last night...Wonder what his status will be..He could make a very good linebacker..

  • I hope that Andre' can eventually become a well paid member of the UK staff. He is definitely one of us.
