Stoops hiring question

  • So now that we know Mr. Stoops is going to be our next coach, I had one question that came to my mind.

Do you his hiring will have any bearing on whether or not Charlie Strong will look at other jobs more seriously? I'm not saying he is looking to run from a challenge or anything like that but now he is no longer the only hot coach in the Bluegrass. He can talk Joker up all he wanted to, but he knew he was getting the big in-state recruits over him. That wasn't even a question. I just think the Arkansas, or even the Tennessee job for that matter might look a little more interesting now.

    Thoughts?

  • No..dont think its in Strongs blood to decide things from a viewpoint like that. UofL is ACC bound...or so I hear...if Strong leaves Ul..he would have anyway..who Uk's coach is will not matter.

  • If Strong leaves, it will be due to having a chance at winning a NC and not being a coach in a no name conf. Might put more pressure in recruiting some of the better players instate here but having a coach to compete against shouldn't bother him. I have a feeling he'll be leaving to other place since he can have choices unless he's waiting for his dream job to open. It's South Carolina from what I have heard.

    Why so serious?

  • Good points. I guess not really a good question. I really can't see him "running" from anything either. I should get them to remove this topic. blackeye

  • No effect at all.

In terms of uofl to the acc... The big east made a move today that makes me wonder if that isn't true. Especially considering the release as for Boise.

The uofl to acc talk as only been coming from uofl, Cincy and uconn people. No national reports yet. IMO it's wishful thinking on part if uofl fans.

  • Nothing wrong with the topic, there will be a lot questions going to come with a new era

On conference jumping... I heard today that VT, UVA, NC, and NCstate are all lining up to bolt the ACC. NC evidently has choice of SEC or B10. UVA will follow them. State and VT are going the other way. Evidently serious talk in Blacksburg!

  • UNC to the SEC would make since, they have recruiting ties to the south in football and the basketball program is well one of the tops. Football would be helped alot by going to the SEC.

Big 10 is well not a great fit for them. Lville well it is hopeing for the best spot period.

As for Strong he is from Ark, he knows the state and he knows there is a ton of talent there and in North east TX and Northern LA.. He could go there people.

On conferences, I have heard that the SEC is interested in a school from North Carolina and Virginia. I heard UNC was first choice and NC St. second. Not positive on the order of the Virginia schools. This would give the SEC two new media markets.

Continue to also hear that UofL and Florida St. are tight with each other. FSU trying to get them into the ACC and also as a package deal with both of them going to Big 12. I have not heard either of these nationally but I do continue to hear whispers of it. Probably not true, but who knows.

  • Hear FSU to the B12

  • There are reports out that the ACC is voting tomorrow about whether or not to invite Louisville to the ACC. Looks like it could be a yes vote ...

  • Louisville is in.

    What happens next is key.

Some folks seem to think that UVA and UNC are going to the big 10, nc state and va tech to the sec and Miami and fsu to the big xii. If that happense then the acc becomes a basketball conference just like the big east was.

I think we're all praying that will happen. I know I am. My hatred for UL is unhealthy, and it wasn't like that until I moved to Louisville.

IMO, it still doesn't really matter. The ACC is no better in b-ball than the big east was.

But let's look at what uofL is facing in football this year. They could easily end up on a 3 game losing streak. if they lose 3 in the big east. What will they do in the acc?

Time will tell, but I don't see much of a difference for them at this point. We shall see. But if those 6 teams leave it could be another situation where Louisville scrambles to find a home.

UNC wants the Big 10 for the perceived academic prestige. From that perspective, UNC and UVa make a lot of sense.

They want it more for the $$$$. the TV contract the acc signed is an absolute joke compared to the big 10, sec, Big XII and Pac 12

Yes. I meant they want Big 10 over the SEC.

SEC $$$ is similar to the BIg 10 money. But you are correct. the acadmic argument is what puts the big 10 over the top for unc. I agree. The Big 10 is the better fit for them.

Strong is still the "hot" coach in the Bluegrass. Stoops hasn't coached a game yet and you're calling him a "hot" coach? Whoa, big fella, slow down.

I don't think I am jumping the gun. I have not heard a negative word from anyone locally or nationally that this wasn't a great hire for UK. Yes, he has yet to coach a single game but that does not mean he isn't a "hot" coach. Kirby Smart hasn't even been hired by anyone yet and he is labeled a "hot" coaching prospect by pretty much everyone. Stoops is a "hot" up-and-coming name in the coaching profession at this point in time. There wouldn't be all this fuss about him if not. I'm not saying he is the next Nick Saban. Just a really good start, IMO.

  • Strong may be about to blow the big east closing out the year with 3 straight losses against unranked opponents sending them to a terrible bowl game in a year where they thought they were sure fire big east champs.

So, in comparison, we'll have the hot coach. Here's the thing. Our ceiling has always been higher than Louisville. If we have the coach and the facilities UofL will be an afterthought to us. UofL has a nice team, but they're a bit of a paper dragon. You don't lose to Uconn and Syracuse two weeks in a row and not have some issues. Especially with as much as they are playing for.
