Stoops...how will he fill his staff???

  • Ok guys..we got our HC. And I for one am ecstatic! Now..serious answers only..Staff input greatly appreciated...how does he fill his staff?

    OC: Neal Brown? James Coley?

DC: DJ Eliot? heard Eliot is coming..my guess is as our DC. Great coach and recruiter. Hes been FSU's De coach.

Does Stoops keep any current Uk staff? Or does he wipe the slate and start 100% fresh?
If he does keep any current staff..I hope Chuck Smith is one. Ky born.bred..look at all the no star or 2 star LB's hes put in the NFL. From the FSU camp..thier LB's coach was the weak link there..so..keeping Smith might not be a bad idea. I wouldnt be against keeping Summers..our OL play has been great, with less than elite talent. I think keeping Pat Washington would be a good idea..man has improved the play of WR's everywhere hes coached...just look at our WR's this year vs the years before.

Im just asking..so dont bash or hate plz. Just respond.

Anyone have any inside info on who any of our new coaches will be other than Stoops and Eliot..assuming my info on the great De coach coming with MS is true of course?

IF Eliot isnt coming as DC...how about shooting Ellis Johnson..Spurriers former Dc who just got axed a offer?
If Neal Brown wont come..who's your guys picks or wishes for OC? (THank GOD Randy Sanders wont be calling the plays anymore..i mean..pitching the ball 5 yards behind the LOS on 4th and inches 2 times vs UT? So many drive killing dumb ass trick plays..for such a good QB coach..he sure didnt learn how to call plays at ALL.)

  • As for the OC I would love either of those guys. I think Neal Brown might get a head coaching gig if Dykes leaves.

I would like to see him get the DE coach or poach a lot of that staff.

I tjink we need a good house cleaning with our staff. If he is keeping anyone Chuck Smith. But I am ok with no one staying

Johnson is likely the frontrunner to go to FSU to replace Stoops actually.

Eliot is very likely coming though who knows if it'll be for DC or what position. Still think Hudson and Coley may be coming as well but we shall see.

I think the plan was to have Neal be the OC but the opening at LA Tech may blow that up.

  • Here comes the obligatory "I heard it from a guy, who knows a guy, who's related to..." post, but I've also heard that Neal Brown is option #1 for OC, assuming he doesn't end up with the LA Tech head coaching gig. Sounds like he isn't particularly enamored with working under Tuberville. TIFWIW.

Well, Ill take Coley...all the Noles fans are raving about his south florida ties and say hes an amazing recruiter..as is Eliot..who kills Texas..sign both up imo. And I too am all for a housecleaning..and if Eliot comes i would guess it would be as DC..dont see him leaving FSU for same gig here...but heck..Stoops is gonna be all over the defense anyway...im more concerened with filling the OC and offensive jobs.. If we get both Eliot and Coley...we should all give Mitch a huge BBN HUG...how did he ever pull this off? And from what im hearing from Tallahassee...it could very well be possible we get Coley and Eliot...WOW..2 elite, ELITE recruiters perfect for a UK overhaul. Pay them whatever it takes to come with Stoops and turn this ship around!! If we do in fact get Coley and Eliot..we could see some elite recruits come THIS year..and 2014 would be a unheard of class..especially with a bumper crop of talent in state...you have to think any Ky kid is now firmly considering UK now.
THis team has some talent on it..3 good QB's..stable of backs and talented young wr's..If Stoops can pull off a 8 win season next year..with a full year to recruit...Uk could very soon be competing for SEC east titles.

Has Dykes taken a position elsewhere already?

  • The 2 you mention I have heard are coming, I've heard Summers has the best chance of staying. The main thing no one is really saying but has been whispers is that if things go accordingly to the plan, he's going to have a really good staff if not great. we should know come after Sunday

    Why so serious?

  • Personally, I want an experienced DC and OC to go with a rookie head coach, even one I am giddy over.
I'd be happy with Coley or Neal Brown at OC, I think.
DC? I'll need to think on that one.

I'd like to keep Summers with the OL as he is very good, IMO, and I would like to keep continuity with that backbone of the offense. Note: I don't think Trickett is too old to coach but I don't think he will want to move if he doesn't have to at his age. JMO

I guess I'd be ok with Washington as WR coach, but I have no idea who Stoops might be able to bring in.

Dameyune Craig is the FSU QB and recruiting coordinator coach. I would be happy with his recruiting ties but I have no idea if he would be a choice to come.

Its not official but he got the nc state job barring something crazy. He was their 2nd choice after Franklin

    allenctynimrod

  • Think Craig will be wherever Jimbo is be it Auburn, UT, or FSU

    allenctynimrod

  • Been chatting with some guys on the FSU sites and they don't want to lose Eliot ... but the general consensus seems to be that they wouldn't mind losing Coley and Hudson if that came to pass.

Coley, while a great recruiter, has no experience game planning or calling plays from what they're saying. Jimbo does all that.

Hudson's LBs have underperformed to their expectations and there was also mention of some kind of baggage with him.

They all agree though that both Coley and Eliot are hot-shot recruiters.

Yeah..i dont think Craig is coming here..but Coley and Eliot? OMG..both are super recruiters..Coley has more ties in South Fla than a bread factory..and Eliot has awesome Texas ties..and Eliot coming would be as DC...im sure..gosh i hope both are coming...it would make things so much better and faster..getting elite talent here will be so darn nice...im so excited for next year...cant wait..and the years after will be legendary in Uk terms...I can feel it. Stoops was the best hire possible..never dreamed wed land a guy of his caliber and reputation. Good things are in store for the BBN football fans..we have suffered so long...

    BigBlueDawg12

  • I wouldn't mind to see Summers stay, and Pat Wasington. I thought he did an outstanding job with the WRs this year plus has connections throughout the south for recruiting. I'm not real well versed in the names of the coordinators, but what about Mike Stoops for DC? A little role reversal for the bros? How about Paul Petrino for OC? Would love to see Neal Brown if the LaTech thing doesn't work out.

    msdcatfan

  • Why would tony Franklin not be the logical choice to replace dykes at la tech?

    hoptownukfan

  • From all reports, FSU fans saying thier LB coach was weak link, carried "baggage" fwitw...Id like to see Chuck Smith stay..keeps a native Kentuckian on staff..with ties to all in state schools and ohio as well..not to metion hes developed some of the SEC's best LB's with no star or 2 star talent...Woodyard, Kelly, Maxwell, Sneed, Williamson, Trevathan..a Uk Lb has led the SEc in tkls for what..3 or 4 straight years now? Maxwell led the SEc in ints his senior year..Woodyard and Trevathan and Kelly..all in denver..Woodyard and Trevathan were no star..i think woodyard might have been a 2 star..with kelly being the only 3 star kid among them. Imagine if Smith had some 4 and 5 star talent to work with??
I also wouldnt mind Summers and Washington staying..Wash helped ou Wr's out SO much....did the same at Kansas St..Tennessee.
Id think hard before letting these guys go..thier replacements had better be darn good!

    BigBlueDawg12

  • From what I have been told Summers will stay. As for a new OC I would love to have the OC at Texas Tech. ??? As for DC Stoops mike just have that job so he can spend more cash on the rest of his staff.

Who ever he brings in they must have a pipeline to help UK.

Now that David Williams is a judge UK has a great chance of getting that 100mill it wants for the stadium.

UK must double the recruiting budget period. Or none of this matters.

  • Just saw on Twitter where the OC positon has been offered to Coley:

Ingram Smith @IngramSmith: Mark Stoops has offered current FSU OC James Coley the OC job at Kentucky, would expect decision in the next 48 hours.

  • Guys, summers is a ky guy to. From report I'm getting out of FSU camp. Coley will be OC, most likely Elliot your DC. I could see stoops keeping Summers by he is a vet coach who is very good. The rest idk bout.

    KyNolesFan

  • Clean house with the staff...complete culture change...I like keeping Summers though.

    jamccain

  • Dont let us forget Summers is Joe B halls son in law. And that will play into him keeping him on staff.

Make no mistake people it will help Stoops with the top brass.

Just saying that cant hurt Summers lol.

    dvillepro1

  • As an FSU fan I can say I would be a lot more upset losing Eliot than Coley. Both are elite and tireless recruiters.

Coley does a lot behind the scenes from game planning to breaking down film. As an Offensive Coordinator no one can honestly tell you how good he will be as it;s Jimbos offense and he calls all the plays. Sounds like he is probably heading y'alls way.

If I had to bet Eliot will be heading y'alls way as well as he was hand picked by Stoops when Stoops came to FSU. Great Recruiter and our D-Ends were pretty damn good but again can't honestly say how good he will be as a D-coordinator if thats what he comes as since he's never been in that position and its been Stoops defense

  • Summers is a great guy and great coach, that helps to.

  • Does anyone think that Stoops may call the defense at UK even as HC?? For some reason, I believe Patterson from TCU does as well but I could be wrong. I hope Stoops does call the defense.

I think Stoops will call the D so he has more money to spend on the other Asst Coaches. Would make since. Hire a great OC for around a mill.
