Story: Poythress more beast than beauty

ATLANTA - John Calipari has opined about Alex Poythress' talent, a 'beast' who can do just about anything on the court. In UK's loss to Duke he was more beast than beauty.

  • I'll tell you what, if he plays like that all the time then we are going to pound some teams. I hate losing, especially to Duke, but I'm proud of this team for not quitting. They certainly have shown flashes of what can be.

Give them a couple more weeks of practice and a few patsies. After that we will begin seeing some major strides. I'm predicting now that they go up and take care of Notre Dame.

I agree with what you said completely about Poythress he was so impressive last night and thats what Cal has been waiting on as well as the rest of us. He showed the total package of dunking rebounding and defense as well as 3 pt shooting. His aggressive play if it continues as I suspect it will he will climb the charts of who the nation thinks might deserve at shot at being on 1 of the All American teams whether that be 1 -2 or 3rd team.

  • I don't think I've ever seen a freshman this strong. Cal has got to find a way to get him touches on the block more. He's an absolute beast. Once he figures out how to give consistent effort he's gonna be an absolute stud. Can't wait to see what he looks like in March. Probably will be an unstoppable force. Just overpowering everybody.
