Surprise! Polson powers UK victory

Jarrod Polson has shared the UK locker room with 15 five-star All-Americans. But here we are 23 games into the season and it’s Polson who has coach John Calipari gushing.

  • It is no surprise to me. I have said all along that Polson, and Hood, would be very valuable pieces to this team if they were only given an opportunity. All they need is minutes.

  • Polson has bided his time just waiting for a chance to show what he can do, now that Cal has been giving him more minutes most people can now see how valuable he can be to this team. He by no means is a Trey Burke but his value to this KY team is coming into the whole BBN view. We got a good look at what he can do the very 1st game of the year against Maryland then his minutes seemed to dry up slowly. Now that his minutes have been increased he has been a subtle MVP of a few games but not with his stats but with his calming effect. Keep up the good work Mr. Polson.

I agree with you mr, he has done this time and time again. Its almost less normal when he doesn't give us a spark.

  • I trust Polson when he's on the floor more than any guard we have. He knows his strengths and limitations, and plays to them.

  • And Polson knows that no matter what he does this season, no matter how hard he works, it's back to the bench next year with the influx of great guard play.

  • Polson is giving this team quality play, starting with the Maryland game.It would be nice if Hood had not had the health issues and could be a contributor also.

  • Jarrod Polson has been the third most efficient player on this UK team all season, behind Noel and Cauley-Stein. He started the season strong in the Maryland game, and he has contributed without hurting the team in his 280 minutes thus far. He has ended less than 3% of the team's total possessions with an Adjusted Individual offensive efficiency of 1.299 ppp. Compare that to Goodwin, who has ended nearly 21% of UK's total possessions with an efficiency of 0.921 ppp. I would love to see Polson with more minutes and more possession ending plays, and less for Goodwin, say insteat of 3-21 between them, perhaps 9-15 between them, without changin the distribution to any of the other players.

On defensive, Polson has had an average defensive efficiency of 0.913 ppp while Goodwin's has been 0.890 ppp, which illustrates Goodwin's greatest value to this team when he is on the floor. Compare those to Noel at 0.768 ppp and Cauley-Stein at 0.866 ppp, the two best defenders on this team.

With all that said, when Jarrod Polson is a UK team's 3rd most efficient player, that speaks more to the relative weakness of this team than it does the brillance of Polson's play, and I intend no slight to Jarrod Polson's play or contributions to this team, which have been outstanding.
