  • I completely understand having a bad game, but I wasnt talking about scoring. He could have impacted the game in many other ways and just didn't. Rebounding is just heart and desire, and he certainly could have defended better.

I totally agree with the post about Wilter, smart kid just needs to be quicker with his shot and trust him self.

Nate, there has been times when Miller has a look in his eye when he discovers that he can't be guarded, when he gets that look...its true. He literally cannot be guarded one on one. The problem is that he has no Killer instinct. The talent is without question there. His size, agility, and basketball IQ is as good as any in the country. If he only had that "alpha Male" mentality as Jeff mentioned there is no doubt he would be a lotto pick and a solid pro. Two seasons ago, Jay Williams did a UK game and he said with stars like Wall, Cousins and Patterson on this team that Darius Miller has unlimited potential as a pro if he ever discovers what he is capable of. I couldn't agree more. Unfortunately,
that mindset can't be taught or forced on someone. I would absolutely LOVE to see this kid have John Wall confidence in himself. However, I still believe Miller will make an NBA roster.

Your exactly right Tommy. That's why I said even if he ha a little MKG in him. I swear Miller is the best player on this team. He just lacks the mental, or killer, instinct to put him there. You know I agree with Jeff fans can't force it on him, but IMO Cal could bring that out. Get him in the film room and drive it home that he's the big dog elder in the family.

Wiltjer needs more time his only problem is defense. As for rebounding yes it's a little heart and desire, but it's more fundamentals. It's blocking your man out then going and getting the ball. If you get low and block your man out you can get a rebound on anyone.

  • Jones was being aggressive on offense and playing decent defense. Then on a few possessions he made moves to the basket and was clearly fouled on each possession and no calls were made. After that he just gave up.

You nailed it Jeff. It's the lack of emotion from TJ tonight that has me the most upset. There is no excuse for a NPOY candidate to dissapear and seem uninterested in a bug rivalry game.

We're talking 19 year old kids, there could be 25 "excuses" ! Jones has been on UK's campus for 1 1/4 seasons and has delivered 15 pts, 7 rbs, and 3 blks a game. He had a piss poor game for certain, but lets not blow it out of proportion, he's very good, and he has played hard all year.

This is a big reason why It would be beneficial to Cal and the team to get Wiltjer as many minutes as possible leading up conference play. We need him to be ready to step in and make an impact. I thought he did okay tonight but thought he passed on a couple of threes he should have taken. He's a major asset that Cal has undervalued so far IMO. He should use the same philosophy with him as he does Teague, let him learn on the job.

I think Wiltjer is going to be a great one but right now he is a liability on defense and was way too tentative on offense. He just needs more time and some game experience against lesser opponents to gain some confidence.

I'd love to see him have the confidence to catch and release it when he's wide open. I know Cal wants him to shoot it there. He wouldn't have him in the game if he didn't. That's what Kyle brings to this team. Let it fly, big fella!

That's an interesting observation. I do think he's a little emotional that way. He's all man on the outside, but inside he's still more like a young kid.

Exactly. How many of us were emotionally mature at 19?

True. But I think the body language is what has people confused and disappointed.

Having a bad game and looking like you don't want to be there are two different things.

...I would add slightly to your comment, Jeff. "Having a bad game and looking like you don't want to be there, in that amazing environment, are two different things."

I only add because even if you are having one of those blah moments like Tommy mentions above, there is zero excuse at all for not finding motivation, energy, or whatever when you are in that type of environment. I wasn't there but all accounts say that it was friggin amazing and I don't care what TJ says, does, no excuse.

As far as Jones goes, that was his rep coming out of AAU. Just has a tendency to disappear at times. A lot of people had a problem with Jeff Goodman choosing Thomas Robinson over Jones on his preseason AA squad. But after yesterday, you can see why. Robinson would have never turned in a performance like Jones did yesterday.

Just still has to mature in that area. Not a big deal. Just is what it is.

I know I wasn't. We forget that sometimes with college kids. They may look like a beast, physically, but they really are young men who haven't fully matured emotionally in many cases.

  • Jones can be all that and a bag of chips but he has to learn to let his scoring come to him , but in the same breath, make other things happen that help the team win and fill up a stat sheet as well. Setting hard screens and helping on Defense doesn't have a line but can really help a team win. I just think that is a maturity thing with Terrence. Lets hope that he grows up a lot in the next couple of weeks because for UK to be a contender for all the marbles , we need him helping this team in any way he can and use that potential that he has to become a true team star as well as an individual super star. When he really gets what Cal wants , he will be super.
