LAMB IS NOT A NATURAL POINT GUARD. let cal do his friggin job. lamb does ok in small spurts but hes a spot up shooter i think id rather have him catching than distributing just me

Cal did a very poor job of getting this team ready to play today. Very poor!!!!

I felt like they played like a team who's coach said he hates these tournaments because they do nothing for you seed (basically worthless). I am not saying that I agree or disagree with Cal on the value of the tournament. I AM saying that it would be silly to think those comments don't have the potential to effect the effort of the team.

yep i made that exact point in another thread. all of his public comments gave credence to the "meh" attitude by the players today.

  • With all due respect, I think this is a bit of an overreaction to one game. The trend of the last month-plus shows Teague playing extremely well at the point. Why take today as evidence over the last 20 or so games?

And maybe it's good that he got this kind of game out of his system. Better now than Round 2 of the NCAA Tournament.

Oh Jeff. Don't bring facts to this board. It's the "norm" to overreact and say irrational, moronic, stupid, insane stuff after a 9 point win against a fairly talented and very desperate team.

By "due respect" do you mean "NO RESPECT"? That's what these bashers deserve. They deserve to be called out for their silly and mindless posts.

I disagree Jeff. I've felt this way all year but this game, at this time, just illustrates my frustrations with him. Too many peaks and valley's and I really haven't seen that much of an improvement. I thought Knight last year made far huger strides but what helped him was he could always fall back on his scoring ability and his shooting. Name one thing Teague does exceptionally well? I can't, and when he plays like he did, at the most important position on the floor in March, he has nothing to fall back on which is when he starts to pout, talk trash and the team begins to get stagnant.

because the regular season games haven't mattered much lately. granted, the SEC tourney doesn't matter for seeding. however, in a tournament setting, one dud of a game means you go home. therefore, the SEC tourney should be time for players to be at their best to prepare for next week.

  • Take a whole tread just to call out a true FR. If we lose it is all M Teagues fault yet if we win it is because of Davis or MKG. NIce.

I call them like I see them. Maybe he rises to the occasion and plays above his head or maybe he plays like he does today. I know what the former gets UK and I also know what the latter gets us. We're not going to be playing the LSU's and Ole Miss of the world. Hell, we could be playing Memphis or UConn in the second round.

Teague is the key to the championship.

The offense runs better with Miller and Lamb in the backcourt. This "he's an 18 year old kid" stuff is an excuse. It's March and we're Kentucky, the number 1 team in the country playing for a national championship. Pulling Miller out for b.s. reasons and treating Teague with "kid gloves" is crap when he's doing the stuff he's doing on the floor. It's one thing to miss a bad shot or make a mistake it's another to not give effort, run your mouth and just do stupid, lazy stuff when you're pissy because the offense isn't built around you and you just want to pound the ball into the damn floor as the shot clock runs down. His older brother was the same damn way at Wake.

its funny how in one game he went from the most improved kid on the team to a stupid lazy guy who is mad the offense isn't around him and he just pounds the ball into the floor just like his starting nba point guard brother...and being an 18 year old kid is not an excuse its reality...not every kid cal brings in will be able to handle everything every game...davis is different type of 18 samething wit gilchrist...we will be fine teague is allowed to have a bad game...miller was just as bad today...not moving around on offense...not posting up a 5'9 player guarding him...not rebounding...ill take the one bad game from teague in a tourney be4 i take a senior leader acting like he wasn't the conference tourney mvp last year

I would like to point out this bit in the above:

"I disagree Jeff. I've felt this way all year but this game, at this time, just illustrates my frustrations with him. "

Was in response to JD's post containing this:

"The trend of the last month-plus shows Teague playing extremely well at the point. Why take today as evidence over the last 20 or so games?"

Point being that how one has felt all year isn't important if it is flies in the face of reality: the immense improvement that Teague has shown through the course of the year and that this one game doesn't outweigh how consistently good he has been lately.

Name one thing he does well?

    UK v UF 12 pts 4 A and 1 TO
    UK v Georgia 8 pts 4 A and 2 TO
    UK v Vandy 16 pts 6 A and 4 TO
    UK v MSU 8 pts 2 A and 3 TO
    UK v Ole Miss 5 pts 8 A and 3 TO
    UK v Vandy 13 pts 8 A and 1 TO
    UK v UF 12 pts 10 A and 5 TO
    UK v USC 4 pts 3 A and 2 TO
    UK v UT 9 pts 4 A and 2 TO
UK v LSU 6 pts 4 A and 1 TO (the last time we played LSU, much better)
    UK v Georgia 2 pts 7 A and 0 TO

I stopped there but he has developed an exceptional A to TO ratio.

    Other points:
    Yearly stats:
PpG 9.8 good for a PG
    ApG 4.7
    TOpG 2.8

    D?
30 steals in 31 games is very solid
10 blocked shots in 31 games is pretty good for a PG
    2.1 defensive rebounds per game.

He has become a very good PG.

  • Yes some of the posters on here need to chill out about Teague. He will be fine and to say that he will cost this team a championship is a bit out of the line. What he needs to do is go back and talk with Cal and watch some film, then once the film is done put this game behind him and get his head right for tomorrow's game. Also, I can say too much about Miller because the guy played a limited amount of time. All in all just relx and lets get behind this young man and show him our support!

Teague yea. Lamb no. Davis had four to's and no assists. By stats you must mean final
Score. You are acting like we lost by twenty against a 16 seed in the NCAA tourney.

Context extends to "what you are playing for". Lsu was playing for everything today. Uk? Not so much yet we still
Dug down and won by 9.

  • Teague is the only selfish player on this team. When he's not scoring, he pouts. When he pouts, cal needs to sit his butt down and leave him there. I absolutely hate his body language. He needs to stay in school and work on that. He's a smart kid and I'm sure he'll figure it out.

    Turkeywildturke

  • I disagree. Give LSU some credit. They played great defense and very physical. We didn't shoot it well today.

teague and miller had equally bad games...the difference teague is an 18 year old kid and not the leader of this team miller is a 22 year old young man who is the leader of this team

Miller has been what he is for four years, inconsistant. He isn't a starter so when he plays poorly he sits. While I haven't said negative things about Teague because he is a freshman and he does have the toughest job on the floor, I am VERY disappointed with his lack of effort and hustle. These are things that shouldn't be happening after 32 games, I would have hoped that he would grow up and start understanding what it takes to run this team but this game actually shows the opposite. I hope that his lack of any awards hasn't caused him to be upset because its now that we need him most.

The truth is that Teague is a very young, average to solid college guard. At this point in the season he is what he is. Cal needs to play him when he is playing hard and helping the team and sit him when he is off, lazy, or selfish, just like anyone else. There is not some sleeping giant to wake up. He is a big strong athlete but his basketball skills and knowledge need to be developed. Consistent effort would carry him a long way. He also needs to leave Miller in the game longer. Two of the times he pulled him the turnovers were on Jones as much or more.

I agree with this for the most part. What really made me mad was that Miller didn't even touch the ball until 9 minutes to go in the first half. They should have been running some stuff to get him going but they didn't. Cal yells at him for not making a play but as a coach he's show not confidence in him to make a play by not running something for him. Teague just had a bad game all the way around. If he has a game like that after the first 2-3 rounds of the NCAA tourney we're probably beat unless Davis/Miller come to the rescue. What happens if both of them have a bad game as well. These guys have got to get focused. In reality if they're really clicking we shouldn't win a game by less than 10 for the rest of the season.
