Teague will cost this team a championship

  • UKlaw82 said...

Miller has been what he is for four years, inconsistant. He isn't a starter so when he plays poorly he sits. While I haven't said negative things about Teague because he is a freshman and he does have the toughest job on the floor, I am VERY disappointed with his lack of effort and hustle. These are things that shouldn't be happening after 32 games, I would have hoped that he would grow up and start understanding what it takes to run this team but this game actually shows the opposite. I hope that his lack of any awards hasn't caused him to be upset because its now that we need him most.

He's been extremely consistent this year making shots when we need him to make shots. But every now and then Cal needs to run something for him to get in the flow of the game. When he has the ball on perimeter and working outside in nobody can stop us. We should have been running some of those curls that we ran for Gilly for Miller too. Anything to get him into the flow of the game. I though it was a pretty poor coaching job by Cal today and maybe he did it on purpose to teach us a lesson. We won on pure talent today. Bad coaching, bad effort, bad execution, bad all the way around.

I agree with this for the most part. What really made me mad was that Miller didn't even touch the ball until 9 minutes to go in the first half. They should have been running some stuff to get him going but they didn't. Cal yells at him for not making a play but as a coach he's show not confidence in him to make a play by not running something for him. Teague just had a bad game all the way around. If he has a game like that after the first 2-3 rounds of the NCAA tourney we're probably beat unless Davis/Miller come to the rescue. What happens if both of them have a bad game as well. These guys have got to get focused. In reality if they're really clicking we shouldn't win a game by less than 10 for the rest of the season.

I guess Kansas and Cuse were thinking the same way that you are, and they both lost while UK won. Learn to take a ONE point victory right now because most of the teams we will play in this tournament we have already beaten once and some twice so it does gets harder. My fear now is that any SEC team that we face in the NCAA, might even be the fourth time and everyone remembers what happened the last time that happened, we lost.

This. If the coach says he doesn't care, why should you? Go thru the emotions. Were I a fan who took vacation & paid good money to see this tourney, I'd be POed at CC to no end had they lost. Total fan disrespect IMO.

What I'm trying to understand is what's Cal's motives to say this. He obviously had to realize that what he said about the SEC tourny would have a negative effect on his team. Why then would he make such statements? The only thing I can guess is he wants them to play bad a game or two so he can tear them down and build them up for the NCAA. I personally don't like it, but I can't figure out any other reason. I mean, why complain about playing in a conference tourny when all teams play in conference tourny's?

Cat, last year the team needed a lot of wins late in hopes of getting seeded higher by the NCAA officials, we win the SEC tourney and NOTHING, it didn't help us at all. YOU do remember the caliber of teams that we had to play because of it? I am sure CAL was pissed because of it, but I agree with CAL totally.

Exactly. UK closes out the SEC tourney with a win over Florida last year and Florida comes away with the higher seed in the NCAA. It was a total joke and backfired on the NCAA with their precious UNC and OSU going home.

I disagree Jeff. I've felt this way all year but this game, at this time, just illustrates my frustrations with him. Too many peaks and valley's and I really haven't seen that much of an improvement. I thought Knight last year made far huger strides but what helped him was he could always fall back on his scoring ability and his shooting. Name one thing Teague does exceptionally well? I can't, and when he plays like he did, at the most important position on the floor in March, he has nothing to fall back on which is when he starts to pout, talk trash and the team begins to get stagnant.

    1.) Huger???

2.) what does he do exceptional well?
A.)Teague has a better assist/turnover ratio than both Wall and Knight. That ratio may be the single most important stat of a PG.
B.) He has an amazing first step. Can get to the rim at will. Period.
C.) He may get a little lazy from time to time, but he cannot be screened. The kids fights thru screens better than anyone on this team.

There were way too many sorry ass performances to even think of hangin this on Teague. Teague has gotten better every week and has become a very good PG.

Don't let your frustrations from a bad all around game by nearly the entire team (not to mention LSU played their asses off) make ridiculous statements.

  • It was one bad game. Teague has been playing great since the first 4 games of the season and you're ready to yank him for one subpar game? I don't like the attitude either but relax. We need him. As for the offense running better without Teague, that's just wrong. You need Lamb coming off screens and hitting 3's. He can't do that if he's the point. Benching Teague would be the same as giving up any hope for #8.

Well lets see. Kansas played Baylor, and Cuse played Cincy. Both teams twice as good as LSU. IF we play either of those teams today and come out the same way we probably get beat too. And personally I don't give a damn about what either team did. Kansas has one guy the same Caliber as one of our guys. We're better at every position and dominated them all game when we played them earlier in the season when weren't near as good as we're suppossed to be now. Cuse on the other hand is good but we should be better. We've proven ourselves to be better all year on both sides of the ball. I've got higher standards for this team than I do freakin Kansas or Syracuse. This is THE premier team in the country and we need to take it up a notch, not go backwards.

Yeah I'm out of my mind for thinking that our coach needs to find a way to get our Senior involved, the guy who has made big shot after big shot for us this season and he doesn't even get a touch until 9 minutes to go in the 1st half. Your post contributed greatly to the overall discussion though so thanks for the tidbit.

  • Why oh why must this fan base feel it is necessary to over analyze every single game. Teague had an off game. UK still won and they are now 31-1. I kind of look at yesterday as living proof as to why UK is going to be the favorite going into the tourney. One or two guys are "off" their game but the Cats have enough weapons to pick up the slack. 18 TO's is an anomaly and is the only thing that kept the game close. If it happens again then I'd be concerned. One game doesn't make a trend.

    ukaveman

  • I'd actually say that Cincy and lsu are pretty similar. Cincy is a little better but they aren't muh more talented than lsu.

Yes, ku and syracuse lost against better teams than lsu, but uk plays a better team than Cincy or Baylor IMO today. Let's see what happens and if we don't reinforce
That we are clear cut better than everybody else today.

Of course we are likely to be "killed" by not having a backup point guard just like it has killed is "all year". (sarcasm)

  • Teague looked great at times today. Been doing that for a while now though. Driving and making nice plays. Hitting free throws down the stretch. No doubt he has some bad games but what kid doesn't.

    tWhit

  • That move in the second half was sick. Teague has had a tremendous FR season. To say otherwise isn't being fair or remotely realistic.

    bigcat65

  • I think that both sides are basically correct in this argument. Teague has had a great season and has shown a *ton* of improvement this year. He has been, at times, lights out (like today). But one bad game from him certainly could cost us the season. Thankfully he seems to play up to his competition, and I believe that he will have a good NCAA tournament.
