Teague worthy heir to the throne

Derrick Rose. Tyreke Evans. John Wall. Brandon Knight. Marquis Teague is working to become a worthy heir to UK coach John Calipari's point guard throne.

    Very well put!

With a consecutive streak of point guards of this caliber, Coach Cal's floor general deserves the royalty you have given it.

I saw Marquis Teague's older brother play in the NBA playoffs about a month ago. He was outstanding.

Usually little brothers have been mentored by older brothers and thus, are better players. If this is the case with Marquis Teague then watch out......another one and done Coach Cal point guard joining the ranks of royalty.

  • I'm looking forward to see what kind of guard he will be. I believe he will be more of the traditional point guard than was Brandon. Also, I think Teague will be allowed to be the traditonal point because of the scoring he will inherit from Lamb, Jones, etc.

  • Teague looks to be a combo of those that came before him. Extremely athletic. Can drive to the hoop with ease. Gets the ball to his teammates. And, shoots well enough to keep defenses honest.

  • It wouldn't surprise me to see Marquis average almost as many (if not more) APG as points. I think he may end up with 3 or 4 dimes a game on lobs to AD alone.

Maybe a Chris Paul/Tony Parker type but with better hops.

I can live with that comparison.

  • I won't even attempt to guess his stats or who he may resemble. I just expect him to be another great NBA bound PG being molded under Coach Cal. The only difference is... I hope they pass the 2 year min rule soon, so that UK will have him a year longer than our previous greats.

  • May not score as much as the two previous points, because it will not be needed. But should rack up the assist. The key will be taking care of the ball.

  • As Knight pointed out on Rome today, that's the strength of Cal with point guards. He's different with every guy because every guy is different. He focuses on their individual strengths and goes from there.

He knew Wall would be better served opening it up, so he did that. He knew Knight would be better in pick and roll situations, so he did that.

Never lets his coaching ego get in the way. He caters and tailors his offense to his players. Very underrated aspect of Cal's coaching acumen.

  • Excellent point there Chris. Cal doesn't get the credit he deserves for his coaching prowess. Too many people just assume he roles the ball out there and says have fun. Look at the offense at the start of the year compared to the post season and it's easy to see how he changed the offense to suit the players he had. He didn't force the DDMO on them but incorporated it and the pick and roll/pop together.

Teague will average 6 assist + per game. Kid is going to have too many options to pass it too that can both shoot and finish.

  • What is really going to help Teague is going up against Harrow every single day. We all saw what happened with Josh when he had to go against Kanter last season.
