The Athletic Department's revenue foundation is at crossroads

  • Namely Football, but indirectly the entire athletic department.

Mitch surely understands how much is riding on this hire. It is not just football but the financial foundation of the athletic department as a whole. Most of the names being batted around will not excite anyone, and will do nothing to stabalize the athletic departments loss in revenue for continually not giving football the respect it deserves.

We are at a crossroads right now. I have never seen the football fanbase this passionate and demanding accountability. It is the norm rather than the exception to talk to longterm season ticket holders and hear the remark that if things don’t change, they would much rather stay at home. A name like Fulmer, MacIntyre etc etc will not do it. I think there is a distinct possibility that a hire like that would DROP ticket sales, and not add to them.

I think Mitch is assuming that ANY new coach will bring fans back to the games. . . I am not for sure that is the case and expect to see a further drop in ticket sales if the right hire is not made.

Sure. . if anyone wins, the fans will come back, but how much room for error does the administration really have at this point?

    Who loses. .

Basketball - more money will have to go from there to support the Olympic sports

Academics - UK will no longer be able to give back to the University as a self substaining athletic department. Furthermore, without a gameday experience, it hurts academic recruiting. College football is part of the big college experience.

UK fans and students - We have averaged in the top 25 in attendance for years. There is no evidence that this will continue. The game day experience will be compromised.

This is a very simple argument. Hopefully it is being addressed. I still have faith.

  • Well said. I agree. UK fans are fed up with losing in football. The camel's back has finally broken.

Stoops Troops reporting for duty .... Which way to the front lines?

For the first time in 50 years, the fans finally said enough is enough.. Quite amazing, really. If this hire gets botched, the new tag line will be "UK Football- 19,000 strong".

  • Could not have been said any better. Bravo Mr. Washington and Lee. Go Hampton-Sydney. Hahaha.

Back to the message, yes, the fan base are your clients. If you want people to patronize you, give them what they are looking for.

Hey, sent you a pm over a bit ago. Let's hope that MB does what he was hired to do. Make good moves with the fan base and mostly the future success of our football program a priority.
