The Dominos are falling for Patrick Towles

  • Max Smith suffered an eversion (inside) ankle sprain Saturday night. This injury is slow to heal. He had a separated shoulder prior to this injury. I say Max will not play at least until the Vanderbilt game in November. There is a possibility he does not play the rest of the season.

That being said, I think this forces the staff to take the redshirt off Patrick Towles. It has to happen. I can see Morgan Newton only playing quarterback in a default situation. Maybe not even then.

The dominos are falling for the Kentucky fans who want Patrick Towles in the lineup to have their wish come true.

  • If Whitlow goes down then you have to at least consider playing Towles. Still think its probably best to redshirt him no matter what though.

  • Smith is out indefinitely, Towles WILL play this weekend, he won't be RS now.

  • I just hope that if/when we do play him...it's not for 5 snaps. If you're going to burn it this late then you better give him the ball or else it's just going to be a waste.

  • Even if Whitlow continues to beat him out and gets all the snaps I don't think it's a waste because you have to have a viable backup and Newton unfortunately isn't that guy.

I hope they give PT all the 1st team reps and have him ready for this weekend because we need Whitlow's ankle to heal and not rush him out there. Let him be a game time decision.

  • Literally- WORST case scenario for Patrick Towles IMO.

  • I don't think it's the worst case scenario for PT at all. It's freaking Miss St he will be playing, not UF or SCAR. Miss St has had a very soft schedule thus far and this is a very winnable game. I ain't skeeeered!

  • Play him. Other teams start the year with freshman quarterbacks and win right away. Murray at Georgia, Bray at Tenn(no many wins but good qb), Bridgewater at UOFSmell. All three are really good players. Let Towles and Whitlow battle it out and see who wins this week.

I don't know, cobbster. It's not like we've had that much success against Mississippi State of late. I don't see us winning against them with a freshman QB, either one. Everybody else in the SEC has that kind of success, but not us, and not for as long as I can ever remember against SEC foes.
Let's face it, this season is pretty much a wash. We will improve, but not enough to salvage this season.

I agree, even though he'll end up ditching his red-shirt. This is what it is. PT will get that playing time he wants, just hope he doesn't end up injured himself.

  • One thing for sure is, if he feels full of piss, vinegar and frustration significant snaps will certainly either humble or embolden him.

At least our oline has proven that they can protect a bit. If our oline sucked, the removal of redshirt should not be considered.

  • It's MST, we always have a shot at knocking them off.

I'm not gonna say we don't have a shot, but I think they are much better than you are giving them credit for. I think they would be getting more props right now if they were a more traditional program.

I'm gonna say they either finish 8-4, or 9-3. Hopefully, it's 8-4, and we're one of those 4 to knock em' off.

So last week he wasn't ready, but as of today at 12 he is ready and will get playing time six days from now?

I can understand getting him ready "If" god forbid Whitlow, is hurt or gets hurt.
But how is that, "he will get in the game Saturday night"?

I have been waiting to see PT on the field like most UK fans, but i dont understand saying he will play. Instead of he may play or he is 2nd on the depth chart. Why come right out and say he will play?

    One more thing
What happens in a few weeks if Towles is still #2? Will he be able to deal with that instead "maybe" causing some kind of drama in our locker room. ( I'm not saying he will) I'm just asking cause he & his dad have made it very clear he should be playing this yr even if hes not the best Qb right now or not.
