The Evolution of Davis

The chart of Anthony Davis’ evolution reads opposite to that which Charles Darwin suggested.

  • Now you're really starting to see why Davis has NBA scouts/GMs salivating. Unreal effect on the defensive end but now starting to showcase how versatile he can be on the offensive end. Reminds me a lot of Kevin Durant offensively.

  • I don't know when I've been as impressed with a UK player as I have been with Davis as the season goes along. I'm confident he'll be a long time super big man, ranked among the best, in the NBA.

  • Absolutely insane player.

To say this only after 2 years from Wall...but Davis is by far the best freshmen/player we ever had.

  • On defense, Ezeli played the game of his life ... you saw the result. AD shows us more with each game. Simply amazing.

  • I think he's ball-handling is one of the most impressive things about him. I've never seen a 6-11 guy put it on the floor so comfortably like he does. That move he made today, finishing with his left hand, was RI-DIC-U-LOUS.

I actually thought the turn-around jumper was just as if not more impressive with the shot-clock running down. Was just instinctual.

I think more LaMarcus Aldridge than Durant, which is not a knock. Durant is simply a cold-blooded assassin, even from three. Only LBJ, Wade, and Kobe are in the realm with Durant offensively. Carmelo, D-Rose, and CP3 venture there when needed, but not night in, night out. I'm hoping with everything in me that Davis lands on the Wizards. Anybody but the Bobcats.

Aldridge isn't a bad comparison either. But I think Davis is more polished offensively.

  • Not bad for a college freshman to be compared, and reasonably so, to LaMarcus Aldridge.

I personally don't see Davis having as huge an impact as Kevin Durant, certainly not immediately, but you have to realize that Durant is among the best handful of players that's played basketball anywhere in the last 20 or 30 years. When you think of the list of most talented players in that time span: You think of Jordan, Kobe and LeBron. After that, Durant truthfully could be next.

Durant has all of the physical tools of Davis, but he's also as good a 3-point shooter as Doron Lamb is. It doesn't even make sense how good Durant is.

Davis' jump shot is not at NBA-dominant level yet. Not from 10 feet or 20 feet. He's shown he can hit those shots from as far out as 18 feet but until he does so consistently, he won't be in that tier. That said, he's shown he can hit them and I think he'll start doing so consistently at some point. If he does, and can hit deep jumpers in the NBA, he'll be an absolute game changer in the league

Agreed, James. To say that Davis will never have the full arsenal of Durant would be the same thing you could say about every player in history outside of 10 or so guys when all is said and done. Davis could definitely become a historically great defender (I've read articles where NBA exec's seriously have jumped over the Camby comparison and said they see more Bill Russell) and an All-Star level offensive player, like Aldridge. If some of you have not watched much of Aldridge, check this out.

I think Davis is a much better shooter than he's shown this season and it's because he hasn't taken a whole lot of them in game action. It's hard to find your rhythm from out there when you only shoot one every couple games. It doesn't make sense for Calipari to allow Davis to shoot 18 footers when he could dunk a 1-footer.

But you can tell by his form and his free throws that he's a really good shooter. Not on the level of Durant by any means, but very good.
