The Harrison Twins

  • I posted this earlier so it either got deleted or the site problems took it. I'll try again. A few months ago they were virtual locks for UK. I say virtual because we all know there's no such thing as a lock in recruiting. Do we still have the same position or has anyone caught up with us? Baylor is on their lists. They're from Texas. Reason for concern? Is anyone giving UK compeition for these guys?

  • Cats are still way out in front from what we hear. I think Baylor is a decent challenger and Maryland is the darkhorse due to family. Villanova, I have no idea why they're still listed. That one is strange.

  • That's good to hear. As far as Nova maybe they like the coach or someone and want to throw them a bone by listing them. Or maybe the reason is scarier.

Kyle Lowry ties is what I've heard. He's worked with Andrew and Aaron a lot in his offseasons and out of respect for him they're visiting and keeping Nova on the list.

No offense to the other schools involved but if I'm UK, I'm not sweating Maryland, Baylor or Villanova.

  • Until UK offers another 2013 PG/SG, I would think its safe to say they still feel pretty confident.

Yeah, that's a good point. If we aren't even looking at a plan B you gotta be pretty comfortable with plan A lol

Our interest in James Young and probable offer won't affect either of them will it? I know other than the PG everyone else is pretty much interchangeable.

    I see Young as more of a 3 than a 2.

    I've seen Young listed as a 3 and even a 4 at 6'5 don't think he'd affect either.

Don't really think we have any other targets at this point that would affect the Harrisons.

He's not a 4 by any stretch. That had to be a typo.

He's a 2/3 interchangeable guy. If his handle improves, he could be a 2 at the pro level.

  • If Harrow and Goodwin comeback in 2013-2014 wouldn't that greatly affect the Harrison's decision to come to Kentucky? Harrow is so small he could be a four year player for the Cats. The point guards in the NBA are getting bigger and he might have a hard time matching up with them.

    TUCK45

  • Sorry I know Harrow is a transfer. So it would be a three year player.

Because of family ties I think Maryland has been our main competition the entire time. Stoglin would've likely went pro after this year anyway so he wouldn't have been there when the twins go there.

Maryland ties and Texas ties. Turgeon was recruiting them while he was at A&M.

Unless he was going to dramatically change his game and become a pure point guard, Stoglin's nba stock was not very good. He's a 6ft. tall shooting guard who is a ball chucker. He is a blur from rim to rim but nothing about his game says nba point guard. Think Scottie Reynolds from Villanova, a very good 4 year college player who physically limited to compete in the nba. His best chance of playing pro ball is playing overseas.

I know the twins are looking at running "the show" from day one in order to showcase their skills to become "one and dones" and there probably is no better place to do that than Kentucky. It almost doesn't matter to them who is currently on the roster such as Harrow might be when the time comes but trust me when I say this, Stoglin was a MAJOR obstacle. He was almost guaranteed to stay all 4 years anyway and was a MAJOR ballhog. With him definitely not being there, Maryland's chances went from slim to solid contender. I still feel Kentucky may lead but the margin is definitely not as wide as thought of before this went down.

BTW, yes I'm a UMD fan and this is all legit info from other insiders on other boards. A couple of solid insiders from other sites have been in touch with their family recently and have gotten pretty good info

See I ddidn't think SToglin would've stayed. He's seemed like a kid, much like Lamb at UK that regardless of his stock for the NBA would've gone pro whether his stock said he was ready or not. But if the Maryland guys thought he would stay then he probably would've.

I still think that it's likely the twins are coming to UK and it's apparent our staff feels that way since there are no other offers for a PG or a SG at that point. That could blow up in our face but even if it does I'd expect Cal to to be able to land a couple of backup targets in short order.

Kinda what I think is happening with Amille Jefferson right now.

    allenctynimrod

  • You're right about kids who think more of themself as far as their stock compared to what everybody else views them as. There was never any guarantee that he would've stayed all 4 years. He was definitely coming back next year though and if he was serious about trying the nba, he would've left after this year on his own, not by getting suspended.

Our staff was never confident with the twins recruitment up until this happened, now they say we have a legitimate shot. Turgeon and Bino has been out to see them much more in recent time ever since he knew Stoglin got suspended where as before they spent more time looking at other PG prospects like Rysheed Jordan. Like I said, I still feel UK leads as well given the fact that the twins plan is to go one and done, and Cal is selling that angle better than anyone else in the country.

We'll see what happens cuz there is still a ways to go and other schools like Kansas and Arizona could get back into the mix according to them. Until then, I can't wait till the Kentucky/Maryland game next season! I feel MD will make a game of it for awhile but won't have enough talent on offense to keep up with you guys the entire game. Really looking forward to watching Poythress play, that kid is an absolute stud!

  • I just hope we don't get Shabazz'd again. Beaten out for a recruit by an inferior program for reasons that have nothing to do with anything that happens on the actual basketball court.

Especially considering Cal seems to be putting his eggs all in one basket with the twins. We're not even looking at point guards for that class.

    montana81

  • Neither have committed so Cal has to recruit others as well as they look at other programs. If we get 2 high tier players that want to commit , then it will be interesting to see what the twins would do then. I love those guys but sometimes you take what you can get if quality players step up and say I want to play for you.

Even the almighty Kentucky gets beaten out by an "inferior" program once in a while for a recruit. Cal gets what he wants most of the time, but not all the time. What excactly do you mean by reasons that have nothing to do with what happens on the basketball court? Do you mean you hope that a recruit doesn't pick a school based family in the area, father and coaching staff relationships going way back. Or are you insinuating that Under Armour could have some influence?

I know it would be easy for me to say that Kentucky has benifitted in getting elite recruits from someone like WWW being in Cal's camp, but now would that be entirely true? I'll be the first to say, if they happen to come to a school like Maryland based only on Under Armour, it wouldn't bother me at all. Once in a while, companies like Nike and Adidas have steered elite players to certain schools, so why not an "inferior" program like Maryland?

With the way our recruits get hot and become "potentially better then good", I wouldn't bet on either of those guys being back so I think Cal gets a restocking fee for the fourth straight year.
