The Last 6 games

  • With all the rancor and distaste displayed by fans , former players ect. one fact remains UK plays one of the softest schedules in the SEC the last 6 games.
    1) Jax St. a non BCS team
2)Miss St a team thats better than us but not setting the world on fire and any other year a team we would proably be saying we could beat.
    3) Ole Miss lost to Vandy and has 1 SEC win in 2 years you quessed it UK. We are at home no reason we can't win. Last year for Nutt proably the school that will go after Leach in reality.
4)UGA a good team but not good enough for its fans expectations , may fire the coach at the end of the year. So who knows they could crash and burn
    5) Vandy is still Vandy we should win I don't care no excuses its Vandy if we can't beat them heads should roll.
    6) UT lost Bray and are gonna proably get some tough losses at home definitly a winnable game and another coach that could get fired if they tank.
In my life time I don't remember a final 6 games with this level of oppurtunity if the players and coaches want to prove they belong this is it. Mitch is a lucky man this schedule will allow him in my opinion to delay his axe.
Isn't this what theUKAA always does wait for any bright spot and pump it as progress in football. Remember Bill Curry's last year the only difference they fired him after the debacle at LSU so they couldn't go back on it after he upset UGA and Vandy. This year they will weather the storm and try to milk another cheap year for the football program get there check from the SEC and go home. No real change of the status quo.

  • Yes the back end of the schedule is very winnable.

Not with this quarterback, offensive coordinator, and head coach. That's just my opinion, but the great thing about sports is we will get to see it unfold in the next 6 weeks. We might beat Jax State, but I don't see us beating any SEC team this year.

On Inside College Football last night they talked about coaches on the hot seat and the first name mentioned was Joker. That national negative exposure will only grow in intensity as the season plays out.

They are winnable if we miraculously learn to pitch, catch, and block. If not, not so much. The defense gives us a chance to win if they are playing with a short field all game.

  • Yes they are winnable. Do things have to go right? Sure they do but they are winnable. I'll talk about the rest when it happens and isn't speculation. Not trying to come off prickish but I want to see things after this two week break and bigger picture after the year. If we lose out I will grab a torch myself.

  • Yes, these games are winnable, we need more positive posts like this.

I just hope we can make some adjustments to help our kids turn it around. I want to see Joker and Morgan succeed, and I'm not giving up on either one of them.

  • The first couple of games Newton played decent and threw some passes that were dropped. UofL game was a toss up until the very end and the OL was back trying to gel into a group blocking system. The next three games were very tough by anybodys standards, the speed was ungodly and it was hard to determine if we were still moving forward. The last six games are much more promising, but I think we still have a lot of unknowns. These next several games will be very interesting to watch and I can't wait!

    Agreed.

The only problem I see now is the loss of Clemons. He was the one bright spot on a bad offense. I think the defense will look better but I still don't have faith in the offense. I would run a the ball ALOT! Use play-action pass and get the TE's into the game plan.

The one issue with Newton is that he can't throw the short quick routes. He is like a BB pitcher winding up for the pitch. And if does try the quick pass it all over the place. But if he can work on that we may be able to win a few games.

I agree with you as well, loss of Clemons is a huge bummer (showing my age) but I think RB is a solid position depthwise and think Gainer could be a wonderful surprise. He, if healthy, looks like he could be a real bruiser.

  • There is no reason that we should be to the point to go no less than 5-1 in these last six games. I hope that the coaches have found a way to get the offense going and it happens. I really do, problem is the reality. I am not trying to drag the team down, but lets be honest and look at this from what we have seen so far. Our two wins came against really bad football teams and were a struggle. Yes we have lost to some very good teams, but Louisville has shown that they are not good either. The offense just looks lost and I dont know if that should fall on Joker and Randy or Morgan. I tend to lean toward Newton. If you go back to the bowl game last year, Morgan had the same weapons as Hartline and looked just as bad as he does now. So I think there is a fair argument as to why our offense is struggling so. Going forward now, I see at best 2 wins. Newton has not shown the ability to make good decisions in game situations. I hope I am wrong here, but I just dont think we can overlook what has transpired so far. So the question is, with all these so called winnable games, what happens if they only 1 or 2 or possibly 0 games? What happens then?

  • I have said in several other posts that our problem is not physical talent but attitude. Joker said yesterday that in his opinion this was true. The good news is that physical problems take months in the weight room or years of recruiting to fix but attitude problems can be changed in a shorter time. My hope is that this team comes out after not playing for 2 weeks and displays a winning attitude. I this happens we could win 5 of the remaining games and finish with 1 less win than I expected at the beginniing of the season. If this happens I will give the staff and this team credit for a good turn around. If not????

  • If UK win's 1 game they will be lucky., You can forget winning away from Commonwealth and as the losses start to go up the crowd at CWS will act disgraceful toward our own team.

Their is more to the problems at UK than meets the eye.

I hope you are not overreacting.

I can see 4 wins down the road if Newton can get his act together.

Newton has had three years to get his act together, what makes you think it will happen after two weeks?

  • I think the team should forget about the past. The season starts now ... and we have a friendly schedule. Go get them!

Exactly. What's done is done. Go get better.

  • Kudos and +1 to you both!!! As fans, we have two paths for the remainder of the season. Path one is to remain strong and cheer the team on. Path two is to boo, tear the team down and predict Armageddon. Unfortunately, most on this board apparently will take path two. I say good luck with that, but I will not wallow in misery with you.
