The pay for info is getting................

  • ridiculous. Listen I understand this is a business and Catspause exists to make money so I understand the need for the VIP articles in order to entice more people to subscribe. I even had a subscription for quite a while. Having said that, this new trend of every reponse to every thread from an admin being blocked is kind of over the top in my opinion. You can't open any threads anymore without half the content of discussion being off limits. I still think this is the best UK site out there but there is just too many other options to get information from. I think in the end this stance is a little self-serving and will actually start to turn people away.

I just wanted to vent a little. Can I afford the subscription? Absolutely but it's more of a principle thing now.

  • With all of the options out there....that gives YOU the option. If you want to play...you have to pay.

  • Every response in every thread isn't VIP and it doesn't have to be at all.

However, if the guys are bringing their knowledge and/or expertise on a subject or passing along info that isn't spread out across the Internet, that is exactly why folks become VIP members.

  • Why does everyone feel they should get entitlements at someone else's expense?

  • It's turned me off this site more the once. Example: The Willis info is public. No scoop for anyone to claim. Someone starts a non VIP thread about it and posters start sharing information. Then the Mods lock it and steer you to his "free" write-up on the same subject. Followed by his VIP post??? Why can't people discuss the Willis Info on the first "open" thread. I think it had 12 or so post so I know people want to talk about it. Do you have to pay for that? I think some of us are just looking for a place to share our opinions about UK Football. If this is not the place, thats fine.

  • I'm fixing to sign back up for a few months through signing day etc but I see what the person that starts this thread is getting at. It's very annoying for the ones that aren't VIP to start to read a thread then every response after the first few become VIP then people get disinterested. I'm really lost and confused at the staff here for not realizing that this is a issue.banghead

I agree with you. I wish there were a completely separate VIP page. That way those with the knowledge could keep to themselves and those without the knowledge could discuss what we don't know. But, this site is very disfunctional. Mixing football and basketball then VIP and Non VIP is not a model for success.

How is it confusing? It's EXACTLY like this in my profession. In healthcare, if you wish to search for the most up to date research regarding treatment for a condition, you dont get it for free. You do get a tidbit..maybe an abstract at most. But if you want to access the full text article, you pay a fee. Why should the guys who spend countless hours finding out the most up to date information, give it out for free?

I am a new subscriber...but am a very happy subscriber. I respect how much time these guys give of themselves to make this site what it is. Therefore, I pay and dont complain.

You didn't understand my post at all. I understand how this board works. I understand some stuff should be VIP everyone has to make a living. What we are saying is it needs to be separate. Every article you go to that starts non VIP ends of VIP and you get disinterested in the article. That's where non VIP and VIP boards come in.

I do believe when this site first started it was split I could be wrong been awhile. I'm very skilled in script and web design and server hosting it would take some time and effort but wouldn't be as hard as staff is making it out to be to split the boards.

I have to agree, but Cats pause will do and should do what they deem best for themselves. I will say though, this used to be the first place I would look for info because it seemed to be more legit than other sites. Then, every thread seemed like it turned VIP. Now, I find out free info on other sites, info that has been tweeted, and is public knowledge, only to find the thread about it over here is VIP. There's nothing wrong with having a paid VIP site with premium info, but there is something wrong with trying to hoard public info and call it premium. I'm not saying cats Pause is trying to hoard info, but it does feel like it to someo of us sometimes.

Obviously, it's a timing thing, because what may have been premium yesterday becomes public knowledge today. I often wondered if it wouldn't make sense for a site like this to open up the VIP post to everyone once the knowledge has become public. The VIP's would still pay, bcause they want the info asap, and it would also put thei free info on par with the free info of other site's. In fact, it would actually even give non paying members a glimpse of what VIP is like, and as a result, may even develop some new paying customers. Just an idea. From my perspective, If all things were equal, I'd prefer to read this site, but instead, I find myself going elsewhere because public knowlege is more accessable onother sites.

  • Not trying to sound harsh or like a prick here, but they let you on this site for free. If you don't like it, you have other options as you pointed out. Why should they spend more money to make you happier if you aren't paying them? I just don't get it. Everyone wants something for free. I guess the mods need to redistribute the knowledge on here for free and charge the paying members about $5 more a month. Sounds like a concept I've heard somewhere before but I can't remember where? whistling

And another thing, the mods don't force you to another thread. I can comment on any thread on here. The reason someone starts a thread before the mods is because half of the time it is public knowledge by the time the mods know it and they always write up a small article on it for people to read. For instance the guy committed via Twitter. If you are a recruiting junkie then you probably follow these guys to see what they are going to say. It takes a whole lot less time for me to post on here someone committed via twitter than it takes the mods to write and attach a story and post it. Therefore people are always going to comment on the first post. But, I also want to read a little bit about the recruit when the mod posts their story. And it also depends on when you are posting. This broke in the morning and a lot of people are at work and cant have TCP message board up on their computers all day. Then when they log on whenever they can, they see the mods story and want to read it and then they comment on it. They aren't out to stop your topic you posted. Those of us paying for this website expect articles to be written so we can read up on the recruits. Not everyone has the time to stay up to date on recruiting. I consider myself a very knowledgeable football person but I have no idea who a lot of these recruits are, including the good ones. My life doesn't allow for me to. By paying for this site I can read up on things at my convenience. Again, they allow you on here for free so I do not feel you have a valid complaint. Some will disagree and that is okay. It's just my opinion.

  • There are sites that seperate everything for those who don't want to pay. Then there are sites like this that have it all together. I prefer this site. If you don't, go somewhere else. It's simple. You aren't entitled to any of this. Consider yourself lucky to get any of the info.

  • CATSPAUSE 247 is by far the best 9 bucks I spend on sports related things period. The inside scoops Josh,Matt,Chris and the gang deliver are well worth 9 bucks TO ANY UK fan. If you dont want to pay..just wait a couple days/weeks to read it in newspaper or watch on local news.

Kevin, sorry for hacking up your post. I didn't change anything that you said other than to block out parts of your comment in order to show how frustrating it can be to try and follow a logical conversation without losing context or meaning when half the comments and responses are not available to you. No different than trying to logically follow a thread with half the posts VIP'd out.

This doesn't pay for itself, and if you knew the cost you would see why advertising and fees for getting the VIP info is needed. This isn't the government where you can get free food stamps, cell phones, and medical attention.

While it may be minimal compared to what paying members contribute, Cats Pause still makes money off free users by internet hits, and advertisemsnts. I promise you advertisers would not be as willing to pay for a spot if all of us free members went away. Some of you guys get your panties in a wad to easily, but none of us are saying we are entitled to info for free. Were merely suggesting what we think would make it more valuable to ALL if it's members.

You are wrong about the threads though. There have been several threads here lately that were VIP that were talking about what was public info, and it was the only thread about said info. Moreover, it was started after that info had been made public. Like I said, Cats Pause will do what it feels is in it's best interest, but I guarantee you they care about the non-paying members also. Otherwise, it wouldn't be an option.

Thats their only only source of income, besides the fees for insiders info, is showing advertisers the number of hits so that they can see how many people will see their product or service. But while you feel they get from us, don't we get from them? I mean all the sites have the same goal, make money to stay in business and entertain the fans with info about their favorite team. What we fail to recognize is that we get info from anyone who comes on this site with a rumor or fact, and we don't pay a dime for that. Now one thing does happen it seems, guys who use their phone actually put the thread on VIP by posting and not realizing that they have done that. That is one area that maybe the tech guys can correct so that it doesn't happen but besides that this is a nice site for UK sports.

Listen, really, please be realistic. You want free, try Google. What's wrong with society. A man or corporation puts all the resources and time out and it is to be completely free. Dumbfounding.

  • Honest question for non-VIP posters. Honest.

Is it better to be able to most of a thread, or none of the thread at all? On this site, you don't have to pay to read or post.

Other sites, you have to pay to read and post. Can't read any of it free. Can't post free. Is that really better than occasionally maybe possibly having some VIP posts sprinkled in - posts that are made VIP by the users themselves - whether staff or non-staff?

It allows folks to get an idea of the content, the conversations, etc. Can test drive for a bit and see for yourself. At other sites, it's paywall, paywall, paywall, paywall. Wanna see what's here? Start your 7-day free trial.

It's asking folks to take a much bigger leap than we are IMO. Even if there are some VIP posts sprinkled in, at least you have an idea about the topic and where the conversation is going. Then, if you run into a VIP post you have a much better idea as a consumer in your decision-making process.
