The pay for info is getting................

  • Is all the great info I'm paying for only 9 bucks a month? Seriously didn't realize it cost that little to get up to the minute info ESPECIALLY since the Stoops hire. Recruiting has never been this fun and the thing that strikes me funny about folks that complain about 9 dollars is the piss alot more than that away on junk. Point has been made above, if you don't want to or can't pay 9 dollars for GREAT up to date info, then it may be on the late sports news or in the paper the next day. Check it out!

  • Personally, i prefer a separate board for subscribers. I can afford to join and may do so at some point, but honestly I've spent much more time on the Cats Illustrated boards lately even though i think this site is better. I don't care that i can't have access for info i don't purchase. It just drives me nuts to be reading a thread that i think is free that suddenly goes private.

I was on here for awhile before I just couldn't take it anymore. If you think about it, the cost of this site is pretty much a 12-pack per month. Great info, actually one hell of a deal for a football junkie.

These guys are working overtime to bring this info, they can't do it for free.

Thanks for becoming a VIP member. We appreciate it.

Kevin - am I correct that individual posters & folks who reply to posts have their own option to make it VIP or not?

Honest question for non-VIP posters. Honest.

Is it better to be able to most of a thread, or none of the thread at all? On this site, you don't have to pay to read or post.

Other sites, you have to pay to read and post. Can't read any of it free. Can't post free. Is that really better than occasionally maybe possibly having some VIP posts sprinkled in - posts that are made VIP by the users themselves - whether staff or non-staff?

It allows folks to get an idea of the content, the conversations, etc. Can test drive for a bit and see for yourself. At other sites, it's paywall, paywall, paywall, paywall. Wanna see what's here? Start your 7-day free trial.

It's asking folks to take a much bigger leap than we are IMO. Even if there are some VIP posts sprinkled in, at least you have an idea about the topic and where the conversation is going. Then, if you run into a VIP post you have a much better idea as a consumer in your decision-making process.

I am a paying member of this site, but I find it highly irritating to go to other teams' boards and try to sort through what is VIP and what isn't. It makes for a very negative forum experience. At least with the old Rivals Catspause site it was pretty obvious what you could and could not read. Also, I think that the pay boards tend to be a bit more well moderated, and with good reason, as compared to the free forums. shrug

That is correct. One exception is if you quote a VIP post, your post has to be VIP.

You've sort of stated one of our main positive points, here. You CAN go to a lot of other teams boards on this network and read and post. Not every board, but most. On other networks, you can't post or read other boards at all without being a member of those sites.

That's one reason we make things VIP here, too, is because users from other 247Sports sites can read and post on this board. There may be some things we'd like to tell UK fans that we don't necessarily want fans of other schools to see.

Yeah but Opti, how do you put up with all of those idiots over there. They don't want to talk, most want to complain no matter how good the basketball or football teams are.

  • Have to say I completely understand the premise behind vip and don't put any blame on the staff for their stance but with that said I will admit it is a pain in the butt to run through threads only to find all posts are for vips but agree it's my choice.

  • Kevin that's the big issue. When non VIP post become VIP that's the need for the separate boards. I think the majority of people here would like it that way.

  • I like the separate boards better, but have no problem paying for the hard work Matt, Darrell, Chris and Josh do 'round these parts.

    They have families too.

Same here ... I understand the reason behind the VIP content and have no problem paying for it. I am VIP here, so it's not an issue for me here. The problem for free users is in the format that it's delivered. I've gone to other 247 sites where I'm not VIP and it is very frustrating.

I know you want free users to enjoy the site enough to become paying members ... so you're offering them a 'test drive' first. But with this format, it's like going for a test drive in a new Ferrari ... but only being allowed to turn left and use reverse.

ridiculous. Listen I understand this is a business and Catspause exists to make money so I understand the need for the VIP articles in order to entice more people to subscribe. I even had a subscription for quite a while. Having said that, this new trend of every reponse to every thread from an admin being blocked is kind of over the top in my opinion. You can't open any threads anymore without half the content of discussion being off limits. I still think this is the best UK site out there but there is just too many other options to get information from. I think in the end this stance is a little self-serving and will actually start to turn people away.

I just wanted to vent a little. Can I afford the subscription? Absolutely but it's more of a principle thing now.

there has to be some incentive for folks to buy a subscription........there are many free sites. If you are getting the good info for free on this site.....why should anyone pay? JMHO

  • I would have the posts separate..I have stayed away more recently also..Too frustrating the way its set up..I think your intentions are good but the threads need to be separated..VIP vs non VIP..saves time...

  • Is there a bug with the board. It only shows the down votes this topic is getting not the many up votes?

That seems like a good idea Don. Just let the people who work for this site and paying members have the option to make their threads VIP if they have info they feel need to be paid for. Have those threads clearly marked VIP. Non paying members just wouldn't have access to the threads marked VIP. All other threads and posts in those threads should be available to everyone if this place is only going to continue with one board. The mixing of VIP info with regular info in the same thread needs to stop. Its really frustrating and turns into a complete waste of time for non VIP members. Atleast this way they know what they can or can't read before they open the thread.

That's my point. This site is better, but it's less frustrating to put up with the idiots and complaining than it is to sift through a thread i thought was free only to have over half the posts be marked VIP. Irritating to say the least.

    OptimisticCat

  • Kevin Ryan said...

Every response in every thread isn't VIP and it doesn't have to be at all.

However, if the guys are bringing their knowledge and/or expertise on a subject or passing along info that isn't spread out across the Internet, that is exactly why folks become VIP members.

You continue to not understand. Every free post where an admin posts in they turn it into VIP. Admin should not post VIP information in a free thread cause it messes it up. If an admin wants to share VIP info, DONT DO IT IN A FREE THREAD. Put it in a VIP thread. If you dont want to split up the boards, then manage your VIP posts better as ADMIN.

It is not only annoying, but screams of desperation.

I believe that I could read and post on other sites as well, just on the free part of their sites. I don't remember if it was that for Rivals or not. I have actually quit the Cat's Pause twice prior to this and it just keeps following me around the net, lol.

Yes ... there are other national network sites where you can read all 'free' posts and post in those threads without having to pay for a subscription, submit credit card info or anything like that. They also have premium subscription message boards that you can't access without paying.

  • The way I see it as if there was a free board people would be complaining about how bad the free board is because no one would moderate it, kinda like old rupps rafters, that place got bad at times to read. You can't please everyone.

As for as posting Vip info in non Vip started, a lot of the time members not admin post and make there own post Vip, sometimes by accident sometimes because they have info on the topic being disscussed. If there were multiple topics about the same thing people would complain about to many threads about the same thing.

There are several sites out there, I have been a subscriber to a lot of them. I am now loyal to this one for their info and the way the site is set up. The way I see it this is their product and present it in the way they feel it works best.

    truecatfan4life

  • I guess my one concern with the separate VIP and NON VIP sites is that now, even on the VIP topics sometimes some posters either forget and you can read some posts on them, separate them and we will never get the bits and pieces that we are seeing now. But I am not a guy who looks a gift horse in the mouth, I just take it graciously and hopes that a bill doesn't come in the mail. lol

    UKlaw82

  • This site puts out info quicker than any other site on the web. Honestly, for those who who choose not to pay, you still get a lot of info even if the thread goes VIP. Hell, go to CI and the only free info you will get is from someone on here who spills the beans.

Dear Lord guys, ten bucks per month is an awesome ass deal if you want the info as soon as it comes out. This site is the tops and you wouldn't be here if it wasn't.
