In theory I would agree with the sentiment on waiting due to all the potential higher profile openings. However being in the last year of his contract without an extension would make it very difficult to recruit.
Every coach would use this in recruiting against UK by putting the fear of a coaching change in the recruits first year.

Ultimately I believe that we just need to make the change, sooner the better.

Y'know I would stand keeping Joker for 2013 if it would mean a promise that both he and Barnhart were gone that December. The man has no right nor confidence from the fanbase to hire the correct coach, none.

The man thought Joker could step right in and match coaching skills in the very best college football conference, the incubator for national championship teams. The man thought Billy Clyde Gillispie a wise choise to lead our hallowed basketball program....an then failed to get the drunk to sign a proper contract for 2 years, ultimately costing UK $3 million from what should have been an open & shut justifiable termination case.

There are always going to be jobs open at the same time. That's just the nature of college football these days. Florida is dedicated to Muschamp and he won't get canned for at least another season until Meyer's mess is out of town. Auburn would have to buy out Chiz at the tune of $7.5 million I believe and I'm convinced that's why they sent Malzahn down to get his feet wet at another school. So that leaves Tennessee and Arkansas.

If you wait a year you potentially have South Carolina (Spurrier's retirement is always a possibility) and Vandy (if Franklin moves up to another position). And then there's no telling who else ends up with an opening for unforeseen reasons. If Dooley wins enough games to buy himself some time you can include Tennessee in that group too.

Waiting to make a move because of other openings is doing a disservice to your program.

When you know you have to make a change, you make it sooner rather than later. You don't try to out-think yourself and strategize on timing, etc. Not firing last year was a mistake. No need to compound the mistake and throw 2013 into the bin along with 2012.
