Think we have our answer on Harrell

  • Hopefully Noel gets qualified....

A lot of people worry about Wiltjer's defense.

    1. I think he will have improved from last year to next.

    2. Two words: Nerlens Noel. Have a feeling much like Anthony Davis, he's going to be able to mask a lot of defensive deficiencies.

Good points. Wiltjer will be much improved I'm sure defensively and rebounding wise next year. The offseason in the weight room should help a ton. Where he can really be good similar to Josh Harrelson is always being in the right position, and anchoring the defense that way. Just be tough and be in position and you can do great things defensively. You don't have to be as athletic as Jones, Davis, or Noel to get it done at a high level.

  • Cauley being a WR hes obviously got coordination most 7 footers dont. Hes got AD/Noel type arms too. Hes gonna be a goodn

Knowing what we know about UK's depth or lack thereof, I think Cal not wanting Harrell speaks even more to the fact that Harrell isn't an impact-type player.

    1 - Ryan Harrow/Julius Mays

    2 - Archie Goodwin/Julius Mays

    3 - Alex Poythress/Jon Hood

    4 - Kyle Wiltjer/Willie Cauley

    5 - Nerlens Noel/Willie Cauley

The rotation was pretty much set. Not a huge loss IMO.

Poythress will swing to the four some too.

  • I'm fine with not pursuing him further. So long as we don't sustain any major injuries our rotation and versatility will compensate for the lack of a banger. Not many "bangers" in the college game anymore anyway.

  • I think that Harrell would have been a nice 4 year player, but then , sometimes you recruit players to keep others away, when you know you don't really want either. My guess is that the UK staff thinks that they will get enough out of Willie Cauley-Stein and Kyle Wiltjer will vastly improve defensively. If Wiltjer hits the weight room and gets some core strength and add about 10 lbs. of muscle he could be one tough matchup for anyone. He weighed in at 239 as a freshman, so 250 good lbs. could be easily attained by the fall. If he developed a mean streak it would help him significantly on defense and rebounding. As far as offense goes, he was ready last season!
