Thinking about how we ended the streak against UT...

  • My ceiling is straight 10's on a scale from 1-100. biggrin

  • funny how hindsight our fans tell us that TN was horrible... before the game all I heard was how TN was going to stomp a mudhole in our chest and that because they needed this win to be bowl eligible that we would get trounced by 21+ pts... that same "gawd awful" TN team is pre-season top 25 this year despite returning 20 starters from last year.

IF they were so gawd awful last year and have an absolute horrible HC why are they being touted as a top 25 team this year?

Truth is TN was a decent team that had issues and should've won that game and was the favorite. I'm tired of the excuses for TN and people ignoring the fact that we had so many injuries. It's flat ridiculous!

I enjoyed sitting there at the game and listening to some young couple from TN talk about the whooping they were going to put on us, to hear them cry and pray asking why they couldn't stop our offense, to hear them sit in silence the final few minutes with tears streaming down their faces and the look of shock and pain in their eyes as we yelled, "GO BIG BLUE!" and stormed the field!

stop nitpicking that victory and embrace the fact that Joker ended another streak!

I would say Morgan newton (whom I thought would be good) was 60% of our issues last year. If we have productive qb play we win 7 games. 25% of our issues were major I-line injuries and 10% was learning a new defense.

I would say Morgan Newton was at least 80 of our issues last year. There's no way Joker should get a pass for that fiasco.

  • Best thing about win a against UT.

    1) Our defense took some major pressure off Joker
    2) Built sorely needed trust between staff/players
    3) stopped Vols from going to bowl
    4) placed Vols all alone in last place in SECe
    5) stopped streak.

The thing is, that was last year. Learn and move on. I hope lots of things are remembered how to grow as a team and forget all the things that lead to disastrous results.

    Just win, baby.

So you blame the coach for the potential alternative not healing from shoulder surgery and the starter flopping that a ton of major schools wanted? The qb position was
A huge problem and joker deserves some of the blame but remember, you have the luxury of hindsight. The o/line injuries and the adjustment to the new defense were huge factors too.

Finally, I ask the same of Joker and that is... pick up where YOU left off by starting this season the way you ended last season. To win against the Cards, much less any SEC team, you MUST think outside the box the way you did when you ended the streak. Being the underdog, we can't rely on the typical Joker playbook... we need excitement. The fans love it, but more importantly, the players do... and they thrive on it. When the team "feels" the excitement from the fans, it pushes them to pick it up a notch... they find gears they never knew they had and they play with more confidence.

Agree with this sentiment completely. Be bold, and do it right from the start, take risks rather than play it safe/field position/keep it close going into the 4th qtr. And I've got a glimmer of hope he has that mindset, with the recent media interviews about how important it is for this team to 'start fast' in order to have a sucessful season.

  • If you take the Winged T and add a good short passing game you have something simular to the Triple shoot Option attack. It was IMO some what of a miracle that UK was able to win the UT game with basically no passing attack. Kudos to the defense for their super effort in keeping UT off the board other than a field goal

  • I'm sick of hearing about the Tennessee win argument. They were 5-7. A below average football team. If it wasn't for that streak who cares. Yea we had a receiver at qb but it isn't like he was throwing it all over the field. We played better our last few games and maybe we will continue to improve.

So what would you be saying if we had lost? Classic... JOker wins, no credit. Joker loses, all the blame. This is the type of stuff some of us get so bent out of shape over. NO LOGIC.

IOW, for you, there was nothing positive from the win over TN.

It's been my experience that the people downplaying the UT win are the same people who said we'd get our ass kicked. I'll go out on a limb and say you were one of them, if you are honest...

  • The positive is we won. Other than that we beat a team with a losing record. If not for the streak who cares what the name on the Jersey says. Sure I wanna beat Louisville and. Florida more than others Tennessee included. But to act like we beat somebody good and that one win defines our season is absurd.

    jeffries123

  • Hop I give credit to the defense in that game. They carried us. Yes I thought Tennessee would win. Big deal. After 26 years and being so close several times and not finishing the deal yeah I thought we would lose. They just always found a way to beat us until last year. Does that make ne less of a fan? I just look at it realistically. Besides western I can't think of one team we beat that had a winning record. I will say the Tennessee game gave us momentum heading onto the offseason and like I said earlier I hope they capitalize off from that.

Did you predict we would beat UT or get our ass kicked?

  • This thread is painful to read. The initial OP was full of good intentions and was a positive message from JJ. Then as soon as a few people voiced their opinion as to what happened in the UT game and why, it immediately turned into a thread full of attacks. After only getting about 5 or so posts into the thread, I couldn't help but sigh and say to myself, "Not this sh*t again."

I agree with whoever it was up above in this thread who said the constant attacks every time someone disagrees with your position (whoever it may be) and then labeling them either as a "sunshine-pumper" or "LOD'er" is getting beyond old. If you can't disagree with someone and express why you think something happened in a game, how you think it could have or should have been done differently, what you think about a particular recruit and whether he should have been offered, what you think should be done about facilities/budgets and what you think the problem is, and so on....then why in the hell are any of us here on this board? Half of the fun is having big boy conversations about the programs, and that isn't always going to include nothing but agreeing with one another.

How about this for a change........when someone posts that they have a problem with the facilities or budget or Mitch or Joker or a recruit or an assistant coach or whatever, try explaining why you disagree and encourage them to explain their side and see what they have to say instead of jumping all over people and blasting away about how THEY are the problem. Some people on both sides of this "war" take things waaaaay too far, but there are plenty of people here who are going to call things like they see them and when that happens it is rare that everyone will agree.

  • Phcd I'm an idiot? I tell u what's idiotic is letting one game define a season. Jokers the greatest thing since sliced bread for beating Tennessee. I'm not that impressed by beating a 5-7 team. Sorry. What about all those beatings we took earlier on? Joker gets the credits for the win and takes blame oe the losses. He makes over 2 million a year to win. He wasn't even competitive in half the games last year. I'm not wearing blue tinted glasses that's fact. Yes I predicted a Tennessee win. I was wrong. I'm predicting Tennessee beats us by at least 2 tds at there place next year. Hope I'm wrong but that doesn't mean I'm not a fan and hope for the best.

Very true. The Sunshine pumpers and the LOD basically feed off each other. I'm starting to realize that and just post my opinion and not trying to get into arguments with anybody. And by the way I'm completely done reading any threads that have to do with campus infrastructure, budgets, upgrading facilities, bonding and the like.
