This sites PC speed...

  • I'm sorry to bring this up again, but it seems there are more people starting to complain about their pc speed slowing way down when utilizing this site. When I thought I was the only one, someone suggested firefox. I checked into it and didnt care for it. Not everyone is going to want to change their pc setup just to accomodate this one site. Is there something that 247 or CP Staff can do?

I have been promoting this new CP site like crazy.... calling friends and family, as well as, telling everyone at work who I know are cat fans. A couple of them have already signed on that I know of... one of whom, complains about the speed compared to the other site. I have noticed others complaining about it in other threads.

This site is awesome and has alot to offer, so I would hate knowing that something like site speed is what's keeping people away. There must be something that can be done without asking everyone to download firefox. Any suggestions?

BTW... not only does my pc speed slow down while on this site, but I constantly have to click on refresh. On the old cp (for example), after making a post, that would automatically update that page bumping that thread back to the top. On here... after making a post, I have to click "refresh" to update with my last post putting that thread back at top of page. Also, when I go from one forum to another (RR to WL, etc) or even just sign on, it always shows exactly where it was the last time I left that forum. It gets frustrating when the first thing I have to do everytime I visit a forum, is "refresh" just to get up to date info. Is it just me?

I am more than pleased with this site. There is speed to burn. I have never had to refresh the screen! The old "Rivals" site was slower than smoke rising on a windless day. Not sure what's happening with your computer but man this site is great and also fun to read. I do not post very often but I just had to add my two cents worth. Peace!

  • Seems to work fine on my ThinkPad and my Acer....no problems at all. Even like the iphone version!

    onemansleg

  • I have the same issue. When I click on a thread it takes a while for it to load. It's interesting. It happened on the old cp site too but not on the old kentuckyink. Only when it switched to cp did I have the issue again. It doesn't happen on my iphone or ipad, just on my pc.

  • Never a problem for me... and I'm on a six year old Mac.

  • Wonder how many people on here regularly delete temp files and clean up their pc. Websites do not have the ability to slow down or speed up your pc. Internet explorer is a horrible web browser and firefox is leaps and bounds better. It's not even close. Sounds like to me you need to have a professional investigate your pc and find out what is really going on. 99.9999 percent of the time it's end user ignorance and problems that lead to a "slow pc". No disrespect intended but most people simply are computer ignorant.

  • The site is really slow for me when I am here at work (and having to use Explorer) but when I get home on my laptop where I have Firefox, I have no issues at all.

    Rock_Cat78

  • I have no complaints about this site at all. It actually performs better at home and work than the old site did imho.

  • I didn{t have this problem before but I do now )it started the same day of the switch=

    poliglotcat

  • I don't have any problems with it at all, it's actually really fast. What browser are you using? I use Google Chrome, I suggest giving that (or Firefox) a try if you're stuck with IE.

  • I'm using Safari on both my Dell and Mac with no issues.

None taken. I agree 100%. I will be the first to admit that I'm ignorant of PC knowledge. That is why I ask for help. From what I gather so far, it's those of us who are using internet explorer. We need to go to firefox or something equal. BTW... I actually am knowledgable enough to clean my PC. I have deleted and/or compressed files to free up space and deleted cookies. I've uninstalled unused and unnecessary programs. I will try something else.

Thanks again to all who have offered info.

  • I have to use IE and it loads slow for me as well. There appears to be some optimizing object that runs before it renders the page, maybe they all do, but it really bogs down on me. It may be the resolution settings on my pc and resizing before display. I've been too lazy to try it, and, this is the only site I have an issue with.

That's what is wierd about this whole thing. Those of us with the problem seem to have the exact issues... and oddly enough, it is only when we visit THIS site. Our speed is fine everywhere else. That's what leads me to believe something may be done by 247 to fix it.

I am just too datgum ignorant to figure it out. type_angry

Ditto. I use Safari at work and at home and it is much faster. IE is slow and riddled with issues. IMO, making the switch to Firefox or Safari will improve the performance of your PC.

  • I use Google Chrome and it's literally lightning fast. I click on a link and I'm there in less than a second. Literally. There's no PC issues on this board.

Well, that would be true except for the ones I'm having with IE.

I have a MacBook and use Chrome. It's better than both Safari and Firefox. It's not the site's fault that it's slow on a PC, it's Internet Explorer. Do yourself a favor and download Google Chrome. It's free and like Derek said above, it's lightening fast.

If you absolutely have to use IE for some reason, and I hope you don't, make sure you're running an up to date version.

I couldn't agree more. I know change may be awkward at first, but there's no way I'd run IE over Firefox anymore. If people give it a chance, it's a no-brainer.
