Chrome is great as well. Anything but IE.

Chrome or Firefox are my browsers of choice ... I never open up IE unless I have to.

JawJacker, I didn't read all of the posts on here, so someone else may have mentioned it, but in addition to keeping your browser clean for better speed ... you might also want to set up a defrag program to run automatically every night on your computer if you use it a lot. I do that as I'm on my computers all day and have seen better results since doing so. There are lots of things to do to help keep a computer running smooth and clean on a daily basis ... and this would be just one of them. There are some good free applications out there to do this (better than the ones built into Windows). Take a look at Smart Defrag 2 from IOBit.

Been reading this thread. First, I think this site does have issues that the old KI site did not have. I have pointed out some of them since the time we moved here last fall, and the response has always been the same, be patient, we are working on "it" I have seen some of the "its" fixed to the point that they function better, but not all of them.

As for Firefox v IE [regardless of version], I can't imagine ever returning to IE for my browsing. I have been using Firefox for several years, and recently upgraded to the newest version. Yes, change does not come easy, but I have grown accustomed to the new Firefox, and my perception says it is faster than the previous version.

I have one function that I must use that will only work with IE, and for some reason Firefox will not do it, so I must keep IE on my computer. However, about a year ago, IE was so messed up that it would not load and start. I worked with Microsoft for a couple of weeks by phone to resolve the issue. It seems that two situations rendered IE inoperable. Antivirus/Spyware software I had downloaded and installed, and various toolbars that had found their way to my IE. Microsoft had me uninstall those programs, and uninstall those toolbars, and IE worked again, better than it had in my memory.

I don't know why IE was so susceptible to those third party programs, but that clearly seemed to be the case. Microsoft had me install "Microsoft Security Essentials" for my anti-virus application.

One more thing and this is something most pc users simply don't think about or give any attention to. How fast is your computer? How much ram does it have and what operating system are you running? Do you keep your system updated using windows update on a weekly basis at least? Have all the service packs installed?
What speed is your processor and how much available unused memory exists for apps to run? Definitely should defrag your hard disk on a monthly basis at least. Also checkout a program called cccleaner. It will remove tons of temp and unnecessary junk files from your pc. Something else to consider for those of you who have ever had a bad virus or spyware...just because you got rid of it doesn't mean the damage hasn't been done. When in doubt of your pc it's very simple to backup your important documents and just reinstall windows giving you a fresh start at things again. Don't hire some jackhole computer tech to come out there and "work" on your pc. That's a waste of time and money and theres simply no need with it. Microsoft has made it very easy to backup your files so you can reinstall windows. Back to my original thoughts though, one really does need to know what resources are available on their pc. Have a look at your ram and what type of processor you have and what speed it is.

I can't imagine anyone with anything less than a dual core processor and at least 2 gigs of ram. Look at the speed of your hard disk as well. It needs to be spinning at atleast 7200 rpm. If u have one with a spindle speed of 5400 rpm then u are gonna be slow no matter how great your processor and ram is. Let me recommend one more extremely valuable program that will tell you everything you need to know about what hardware you are equipped with as well as programs and all....it's called everest ultimate. Google that and install it. It will tell you everything you need to know about what "stuff" your system is made of.

Sorry for the length of post but I like for people to have good information that can help them out. Computers are very vulnerable and aren't miracle workers. Gotta take care of them and baby them a bit. And remember this, computers don't slow down. That's impossible. As pc users, most of us junk up our hard disks and screw up our operatin system thus causing a perceived slowdown of your computer. The reality is though that it hasn't slowed one bit

It's a corporate machine, it's gonna be IE, and I promise I don't get behind on versions. The question remains, since it is now a full fledged debate... why THIS site and not other sites???
