It 's true that Kentucky has low numbers in regard to recruits but you have to get the one's from Kentucky that are of SEC quality. I know I am old skol but I remember a time not to long ago when if you were Kentucky kids, grew up a Keentuckian, you went to UK period. Now I know times have changed but to just give up in your home state and spend all our time in Georgia and Florida doesn't seem to be the answer either.

I have said this before and I will say it again. Not since the time Fran Curci coached at UK has UK went out of its way to be part of the high school coaching community. UK coaches used to come by my highschool football practices all the time when I played in the late 60's. UK coaches used to put on football clinics for free strength and nutrition and how it helps in football. curci used to invite entire high school teams to games from all over the state.

uk has to win these recruiting battles in kentucky year in and year. if kentucky produces 4-5 4 star players a year and they all were kentucky bound, 5 years from now they repreent 25-30% of your team. that should e the goal.

Yes...living in FL and GA is absolutely the answer.
Seriously? Did you really just type that? It seems to have worked out ok for Miami, FL St., FL, and UGA.
The kids ranked 50-150 in FL are simply on another level than top 50 kids in other states. Period.

And i think some people are taking this years KY kids as the norm rather than exception. KY produces some talented kids no doubt but UK stands absolutely no chance being a contender for SEC east titles without states like Florida and Georgia. KY is just not going to produce HS talent like other SEC states. Not gonna happen.

Please don't get me wrong, i love seeing ky kids play and elevate our program. Timmy, Dre, Jared, Peters, and all the other great players from the state make college football special, but in order to become a special program then we simply have to focus on the much more talent rich states. That doesn't mean i don't want kids like Hyde and Timmons, but i do care about the seeing the program become successful more so than where the players are born.

I know Dotson doesnt have said agenda, in fact his "agenda" is being tired of all the "agenda" stuff. Look let's not turn it into that today bro. Todd complaines alot and obviously let's his emotions overcome his reasoning ability on here IMO, but please let's not start this agenda crap in thi thread.

Uh yeah we don't need that at all.

Look, Timmons is important regardless. It doesn't matter if recruiting the state of Florida is more important. We need to land this guy. However if we don't we gotta pick back up and try harder. We always end up getting a player that UK fans like just as much anyway. See Jon Davis/Bud Dupree. Still we need to lock this guy up. Its tough but you can't condemn a coach for losing a recruit. Its about wins and losses on the field of play.

I try not to get too broke up over every instate kid that chooses to go out of state. Some of these kids just don't want to go to a school close to home and that is their choice to make.

Take Lamar Dawson from Boyle Co, His family is very close to me and This kid would neaver ever have came to UK no matter if the Bear was coaching here from the dead. He had some huge personal reasons to leave this state and to get as far away as poss and he did. People gave Joker and Smith hell for it and that is because they had no clue what the reasons were that he did not come to UK. As we do not know the reasons why any kid would not come to UK. But yet it is the coaches fault that he did not get them. ??????

Couldn't agree more, Lamar is still a close friend of mine and he definitely made the best decision for him based on what he wanted. I don't think he's ever been happier. Me and friends tried to get him to go to UK but we weren't ever really a consideration to be honest, he wanted nothing more than to get the hell out of the state

If you know Lamar at all then you know he only considered UK for his family. As i mentioned earlier, Lamar wanted to get out of ky. He wanted to have a special college exp. as well as an opportunity to play on Sundays...again for his family, although it has always been his dream. Lamar made a great decision (a decision that most fathers would have made as well sending him to USC) and as you said is as happy as he has ever been. He's a great guy and deserves the best.

What tWitt said was what i was tryin to say (he just worded it much better lol) that its about bringing in the best kids possible to make UK a contender and consistent winner. Who the hell cares whatvstate they are from as long as they are players. Imo opinion FL and GA just happen to be the best possible places to do so.

The only thing he considered UK for was his family, especially his grandmother. But his desire to get out of the state completely trumped that. I've seen him a couple times since he left last year and that was just because USC was suspended from a bowl game. I graduated with him and he was and still is one of the most humble guys I've ever met. When I said he wasn't considering UK, I was saying we never really had a chance, they were obviously a choice, I was at his signing day lol

  • Not sure why he only considered us because of family. We had been having some solid success and Lamar would have been a key cog in improving the program even more. Not to menion our success with LB's. We've put 2 star LB's in the NFL starting for some good young defenses. I can't even imagine having Lamar, Guy, Trevathan, Williamson and Dupree on the same field. And this year it would have been an even better version of Dupree, Williamson, Lamar. Would have been a damn good unit to go along with several studs at DT. OH WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN!!!

Sorry bust that bubble, Miss M his grandmother wanted what was best for him. She did not at one time say to me that she wanted him to go to UK, Tenn was the only close school she was looking at.
Like I said it was other family members to his dislike that made him want to hell away from here.

He is a great kid with one of the best grandmothers ever. She takes care of that family she is the back bone for that family period. Mr. Dawson made the best choice for him. He would have been a super star at UK period.

You are so right. Mr. dawson would have been just a stud. WoW with that LB group the Dline would have time to get to the QB for sure. but oh well. Look at USC's class that has pledged this yr. WOW :(
top QB, top 1RB and 3 RB, Top S, no 2 DE no 3 LB and on and on. wow.

    dvillepro1

  • Well anyway UK will always be a huge dissssss because the state of KY can only produce such players 1 to 3 times per yr. With Fla does it 60 to 80 times per yr. And how many does Fla, Miami and Fla st loose to out of state schools. ????? But it does not mattttttttteeeeerrrrrr because they land 15 to 20 of them each yr lol the rest can go where ever.

Love big blue like no other, but the truth is the truth. I have season tkts to SC just to watch UK every other yr down here in basketball and football.

  • One good thing to look at in this State of Fl vs Top Kentucky players is the fact that Alvonte Bell who pretty much everybody considers as a really good get for us is the 116th rated player in Florida. That pretty much speaks for itself. I would say that Bell would easily be a top 10 player in Kentucky this year and maybe even top 5. Like I said in Florida he's top 120. Thats just amazing. So we could pick up a player from Florida that could be just as good as Timmons as a playmaker pretty easily. Same thing for the state of Georgia. I'm sure the staff already has an eye on somebody if Timmons goes to Arky. This isn't like a Lamar Dawson situation where we had no one left on the board in his

....Hyde could play for anyone but he's loyall because of one reason and we all know what it is...

What is this one reason you speak of? Be careful, because while you might speculate about the situation, this is one of the few that I actually know something about.

I only ask because I am curious on how you plan to use Jacob to prove your agenda.

  • When the grass always looks greener on the other side of the fence, kids from KY are going to climb over the fence! KY fans bragging about not renewing tickets, bemoaning players, coaches, ADs, facilities, style of play and on and on...is like an irrigation system for the grass on the other side of the fence. Whether you like it or not KY kids are well in tune with this.

That is a heck of a class, but with Lame as a HC, they will be back on probation in 4-5 years. He is incapable of not cheating.

  • To be clear, I have beat the drum as long as I have been on this site that the key is recruiting and getting the best players possible and that I strongly believe that is in the deep south (LA, MS, AL, GA, FL and to a lesser extent, SC), not in KY. As I have always said, if we are deciding between 2 comparable players (with respect to measurables and stats), one from KY and one from GA/FL/AL, I will take the deep south kid 90% of the time b/c they have competed against a higher level of competition and odds are they have received better coaching from an early age.

My point earlier in this thread is that in the years when there are several BCS-caliber recruits in KY, it is important for a program to get most of them instead of trying to find (and get) equally good players in another state. I 100% agree with others who say we cannot try to make a living in the SEC off players from KY. There simply aren't enough SEC quality in KY.

I have no problem with guys leaving the state for elite programs like tOSU, Bama, So Cal, etc., but we can't sit back and be okay with losing the state's better players to UL, Arkansas, Illinois, or other mid-tier BCS programs. That should never be acceptable unless the kid (a) has a family tie to that program, or (b) simply wants to get away from KY for college. There needs to be more of a concerted effort by UK to make sure that damn near every in-state kid perceives it as the cool thing to do to stay home and play for UK if given the chance. Obviously winning helps that, but it also takes a lot of effort from UK beyond simply recruiting the players. Perception is key.

  • Back on topic, per the Arkansas 247 site, Timmons did not commit on yesterday's unofficial visit. However, he did say that he planned to return to Fayetteville soon so that he could meet John L and other assistants who were out on vacation on Friday.
