  • Don't know why he wants to meet john l. He's not gonna be there next year. There defense isn't that great and there gonna miss petrinos playcalling. I look for an 8-4 kinda record maybe 7-5. And john l will be gone.

I'd say he wants to meet him cause his coach and Arkansas' coach are close, IIRC.

    Or, I'm mixing up threads...

Back on topic, per the Arkansas 247 site, Timmons did not commit on yesterday's unofficial visit. However, he did say that he planned to return to Fayetteville soon so that he could meet John L and other assistants who were out on vacation on Friday.

Ouch. Assistants out on a visit.

Strange that he went down with John L. and assistant coaches on vacation. But it was a good time for Timmons to go down since it's still the 2-week dead period for Kentucky high schools (last day is Monday, July 9th)

  • Here's my take...

Timmons was probably asked by the writer of the story that touched off this discussion "Is it possible you'll commit?" It happens a lot in these type of interviews. He says, "Yeah, it's possible" or whatever. In many cases, it's a harmless response that doesn't mean anything.

I don't think he's ready to commit, based on what I've heard, but still think it could happen before the HS season kicks off, so these visits are pretty important.

I don't think he'll make up his mind fully about Kentucky until he sees how the Cats play this fall.

We need to show that we can use our playmakers in creative ways. Whether that be from the wildcat or whatever the case may be.

Agree. Huge key, especially when up against an Arkansas program that has really showcased an exciting offense in recent years. Whether Petrino's gone or not, it's still going to be that type of system in Fayetteville.

  • Do we have any playmakers to utilize in the mold of timmons? Maybe Collins or king?

Actually I probably need to quit putting Whitlow in that category. The staff will probably turn him into an outside WR that can also play some Wildcat.

Bookie no doubt should be in that category though as fast and shifty as I believe him to be.

So are you saying UK does not have an exciting offense or a system that recruits would want to play in?lol

Annually there are very few 4-5 star players from Kentucky. I would think it's necessary to get some of them but impossible to get all. I realize the commitment from Hyde is big but you can't afford to let the top players go to other programs. Does a 3 star from FL or GA equal a 4 star from KY? Maybe you can't live off KY kids but it is a good foundation for the program. You mix 3 -5 of the top players from KY with players from GA, FL & AL then you have the makings for a good class. I agree. You can't rely on KY kids only.

I agree with Drum, you would like to get the good ones to stay but there is a lot of talent in states like fla and ga, players who have played at a higher level. I don't think its make or break for us or ul.

It's funny how 2 years ago "Instate recruiting" was a big deal to everyone, now that we can't sign anybody (because Joker's job is on the line) some have changed their tune... Yea i'm the liar. Almost everyone on here has talked about how important it is to be able to recruit daville... Now some of you guys are acting like i'm sitting here making this crap up... Blame me, it's all my fault... I'm going to give about 10 of you guys what you want, i'm done. It sucks to get on here everyday and here BS excuses why we are here and everyone else is there. Some (I said some) of you guys are the very reason the program is where it is... It's ok to take 14-2 stars, 9-3 stars and 2-4 stars eventhough the other weakest teams in the SEC Mizz, Vandy or Ole Miss are landing high 3 and 4 stars players in mass... Mizz even got the number 1 player in the country but oh yea, we should beat them... All those pre-season mags are wrong, those so called "experts" are stupid too, i'll take Joker's opinion over everyone elses in the country eventhough the "experts" live on the camp circuit... Yes will win a SEC title by projecting... Yea right, my last post...

I think if you look back over the last few years and see how our instate recruits did while they were here, you might get the jest of why people have changed their minds on saying that instate recruits is the key to us having future success. Myself, I would love for us to be at the success level where we were recruiting 4 and 5 star recruits from other states and getting them, and finally having the great instate kids wanting to come here. That would be a dream come true for probably ALL of us.

  • I would advise people that dont think keeping the in state players is important to look at UKs depth chart. 10 of their starters are from Kentucky including 4 of the 5 OL starters. The starting PK is also a Kentucky kid. Malign the Kentucky kids if you wish but almost half of UKs starters are Kentucky kids. If UK had been able to keep all of the Kentucky kids over the past several years over half of their starters would be Kentucky kids.

The above mentioned 10 doesnt include Towles who IMO might be the starting QB. The next highest number of starters come from the state of Georgia which I believe is 7 starters.

LB Wilson also a Kentucky kid would be a starter if he hadnt developed a case of the stupids and became a drug dealer.

I believe that you will see if you do some research that a higher percentage of Kentucky kids make a contribution to UK football than the kids we bring in from out of state.

This would seem to indicate to me that we should try to get every kid from in state that has potential to play in the SEC to come to UK.

Your kind of making the point for some. I hate taking this stance because it sounds like I'm anti instate kids...I'm not state all. We have had some tremendous players here from instate, but to your point, over half our starters are in state kids yet we average how many SEC wins per year? I love seeing Just kids come here and succeed and become SEC ballets but that is the eception. In order for us to become a contender for east titles we are going to have to build the program with FL and GA kids. I agree there are instate kids that contribute but building the program we all want with instate kids....nope.

I would even concede that it will take a combination of FL, Have, AND KY kids but that's only because I would love to see it more than anything.

Agreed. It would be a big mistake, IMO, to line up this year and go off-tackle, off-tackle, 6-yard out route (on 3rd and 7), and punt, taking the mindset of "We are gonna do what WE do and may the best man win".

  • Whitlow has been promised that he will be allowed to concentrate on learning the QB position his freshman season. I'm not expecting to see him get snaps at wr early on like we would hope.

Based on interviews that I read, he was being sold on the idea of being "the next Randall Cobb type" where he would run the Wildcat in certain situations, not the true QB spot. I promise they won't waste a year trying to make him a pro style QB with Smith, Towles and Newton.

Yep....for the first few days and then its off to the WR's and Wildcat QB. Just like how Dupree was given the chance to play TE, and so on. He'll get his shot at QB, but how long that shot lasts is another issue.

THIS. As is the way he's done with several of our recruits who have started at a position and become starters at other positions. Bud with TE and Caffey with RB. Hell, even C. Burden started off at DE and moved back over to OL. Joker will give you every opportunity to earn it at your wanted position, but if you will see the field earlier at another position and you will vastly help the team, then that's what they'll suggest you do. For the PLAYERS own benefit. I mean, worked out pretty well in both those cases. Bud is the star we're all expecting to explode and Caffey has already made us feel like the other corner spot is solidified, and he's yet to play a down yet.
