Timmons named top 25 newcomer

  • By the website Saturday Down South:

No. 25 – Ryan Timmons, ATH, Kentucky

    From: Frankfort, Kentucky (Franklin County)
    Size: 5-10, 180-pounds, 4.40 40-yard dash

The Skinny: Kentucky just signed their next Randall Cobb in do-it-all in-state star Ryan Timmons. Timmons was a priority for Mark Stoops as the recruiting cycle wound down in the last few weeks, and Stoops was able to wrestle him away from giants Ohio State and Florida. Timmons played receiver, quarterback and running back and returned kicks in high school, and he showed his versatility and was electric doing them all. In the open field, Timmons is devastating, making defenders miss in space while also being a burner as a north-south runner who can take big plays to the house. During his junior and senior seasons, Timmons rushed for 2,688 yards and 46 touchdowns while catching 71 passes for 2,104 yards and 43 touchdowns. He’s also the 100-meter dash champion in the state.

Where he’ll make an impact: Kentucky is not known for an abundance of top in-state prospects, but it’s imperative the Wildcats land players like Timmons in the future. We’ve grown accustomed to skill position players making early impacts, and Kentucky needs receivers in the worst way. Timmons will fit right into the Wildcats’ new air attack led by Neal Brown, and he gives them a big-time deep threat as well as on designed quick screens on the outside. Timmons will likely make a bigger impact on special teams than offense to start, but he’ll get his touches on offense, too. Stoops has Timmons to build around for the future.

  • That is great. Timmons was a must for our class and Stoops and Brown closed the deal. Good stuff.

  • Ryan Timmons will own every all purpose yards record there is when he leaves UK..could become the 1st player ever to rush and recieve for over 1,000 yards in same season if hes given enough touches.
Timms has blazing speed, he can make you miss in a phone booth. His lateral quickness is elite..and his toughness will surprise you.
Personally..I think Ryan Timmons is the best athlete to ever come out of the state. I like him better than James Quick. Timmons will have a better NFL career than Quick..wait and see. Timmons is a mixture of Chris Johnson and DeSean Jackson. 5'11 185 4.34 speed..could be a 4.28 guy with S&C coaching. Id say something like 52rec for 900yrds..an average of 17.3. along with 40 rushes for 600+ yrds is doable for his frosh campaign. Id say about 4 TDs on kick returns is possible.

    I hope all this happens

  • I am expecting A little less from Ryan. Im thinking 30 rec and 600 yards 5 td and 50 carries 450 yards 5 td. I think hes capable of the stats you are predicting but this offense will not be a one man show it is predicated off of being balanced threw the air.

  • Not sure I would ever name another player the next Randall Cobb...

I don't like naming players the next anyone. Let them be their own player and build their own legacy.

  • This. If you want to be compared to Cobb, you gotta produce like Cobb at the college level! Heck, if he's half as good as Cobb though, we're getting one hell of a player!

  • I think the difference is Cobb had limited talent around him. By the time Timmons is a jr he will be playing with other elite playmakers.
