Today's Blue Lights Special Camp

He's a tall, thin, light-skinned kid. Physically looked like a young Andre. Threw the ball very well, but Reese Phillips was told UK would recruit him and only him as a true QB this year, so it makes me believe if they like this kid, it's as more of a Wildcat QB/WR/ATH.

Yeah just messing with ya. I hope he runs better than Andre if we're looking at him for anything other than QB.

Maybe Matt Roark would have been a better comparison. Somewhere in between.

I think that's him. #77 in this team photo, 99% sure.

Still have to actively recruit QB's other than Phillips, especially with him being an out-of-state kid whose dream school (UT) is in-state and has not offered yet. Can't afford to be left with no other real options if he bolts for another school at the 11th hour.

    ^^^^ Very good advice.

Don't know about that. I understand CJP tells them not to commit if they're going to continue looking around - like making visits & the like. If they do, UK drops their commit. Net, I take it Phillips is pretty dang solid.

They're saying he should drop a few (I think they'd prefer him be in the 310 range) but the kid doesn't look sloppy at all. Carries it extremely well. He's one of the thickest guys (head to toe) I've seen in a long time. Reminds me somewhat of Jeremy Caudill at that age, only bigger.

When Jacob first visited UK, he told them he was trying to cut some weight ( he was 317) and they told him no and to keep eating. I have not talked to anyone since he went to camp, so I am not sure what they told him, but I was under the impression that they wanted him in the 320 range. He does well with the equipment we have at Clay, but I can not wait to see him under Rock at UK in a year or two.

  • If you're the uk coaches, wouldn't you be pretty disappointed to set up your premier recruiting camp and only be able to get 5 "bcs caliber" players to attend and one of those five is a commit (Hyde)? Reading up on other sEC camps, it seems like 35-50 bcs players is the norm.

As JDrum pointed out, the camp this Sunday likely has a higher talent level. And there's another FNBL camp next week.

But not surprised that you've made a veiled jab at the coaching staff.

JDrum, how did Hyde look in drills overall? He definitely has prototypical NG size and, reportedly, strength. He has a real chance to see the field quite a bit as a true freshman if he continues to work on his pad level, hands, and footwork.

The FNBL camps have hauled in some pretty solid recruits the last couple of seasons. I know its beyond your comprehension but but why not trust this staff knows what its doing since the last two classes have been very solid and this class is off to a great start.

I was simply saying it appears there are significantly fewer SEC level prospects camping with uk this weekend compared to the last two yrs.

If this were the only camp then I would share in your concerns without question, but as stated, there are two more with a much higher level of expected talent.
Now one could ask "why host a camp at all with lower level players" but that's the point I was trying to make.
The staff has had some very solid success with these camps recently so we should just trust that they know what the are doing and wait for the end results to be concerned.

I'm with you that id like to see more higher ranked players at every camp but maybe there's a "method to the madness" that we don't see.

We don't agree on much, but I think we can both agree with the quality of recruiting the last two years as well as the strong start to his class. So, lets just focus on what we can agree on and be jacked up and excited for what will hopefully be another awesome NSD! Id really much rather talk about that stuff than the two of us get into some sill war of words when we both obviously love our Wildcats. If so, then I will apologize for the "comprehension" comment.

    Sound good?

You know MW, I've read your posts for as long as you've been around. Its obvious you have a great knowledge of the game. Its really a terrible shame that that knowledge is so overshadowed by the perception of your negative attitude or approach to the staff and/or program. You have a tremendous amount to offer with your knowledge and personal insight but again its so often not the basis of conversation, rather debate about your outlook on the program. Id love to read more positive posts from you as well as a lot more opinion of the actual game played and recruiting and not your feelings toward the staff or administration.

I sincerely hope that we have a season of great discussion more focused on the product on the field and the players and not as much of the admin, staff, and pesimitic outlook on the future.

Here's to an awesome season and many many more positive conversations!

    GO BIG BLUE!

Dude it just keeps getting old. You keep finding ways to take jabs at the program and staff whenever you get a chance.

The staff just started recenly with offering 2 blue lights camps. Now they are being mocked for not filling up one of the camps with a great number of BCS players. This is coming off a great attendence at the Sunday Showcase and what is thought to be a great number of prosepects for next week.

And you wonder why people call you a member of the LOD.

  • How is what I said taking a jab at the staff and AD? JDrum simply pointed out that there were only 5 or so BCS caliber players in attendance. That is down considerably from Joker's Blue Lights camps the previous two years. I simply made an observation. Also, do u guys really not think Joker and his staff are disappointed that one of their biggest recruiting opportunities only draws a a handful of guys whom could be legitimate targets? Of course they would be. That is not a "jab", though. Geeze.

  • Well if you remember the attendance so well last year you probably would know that one camp was a lot more popular than the other. Here is the exact quote from Jeff Drummond on last year's Blue Light 2 camp....

" This week's camp wasn't as large as last week, which we estimated at 200-plus. I would guess there were about 125-150 there tonight. Still a good turnout, and a lot of good-looking players from states across the Southeast and Midwest. I believe I saw guys from KY, OH, TN, GA, ALA and SC today. "

We have 4 big camps this summer, not everyone is going to be filled 50 BCS guys. The Sunday Showing last week probably had more BCS guys there then we ever had a camp with over 260 total kids being there. But I am not sure you applauded the staff on that one.

  • MW, not trying to give you a hard time, but if you will read below, it will let you know that ANY senior-to-be can come to the FNBL camp(for a $30.00 charge)to polish up their skills for the upcoming season. Not all of these guys have been invited by the coaches for the purpose of recruiting them. A lot of these guys will never play college football.

    Friday Night Blue Lights Camp
High School Seniors To-Be ONLY; Two Sessions: June 8th and June 15th

This camp is designed to polish a player's skills as they prepare for their senior season in high school. The Kentucky coaches provide instruction for all offensive and defensive positions. The coaches will teach the same fundamentals that they teach the UK players and the finer points of each position. Each camper selects a position on offense and/or defense for the purpose of improving their skill level. Campers may split position instruction time at camp. Discussions on what to expect during the recruiting process and a tour of the UK Football facilities will take place. Registration is from 4:30-5:30 pm in the Nutter Indoor Facility. Cleats only, no helmets

    $30.00 per session

You really are a miserable contributor to this site. Please do us all a favor and a. Read what JD says before you make a stupid comment like this or stop posting all together.

JD specifically pointed out that this wasn't the "elite" camp. That Sunday and the next fnbl camp would be a big one.
