Tony Woods

  • Has Tony Woods visited recently, and is he a viable option for next season?

    blueboy

  • Yes and yes.

  • I would love to see Cal get Woods and Faust to finish this class. They would make UK the most talented college team I have ever seen, and I have been a fan since Rupps Runts.

    blueboy

  • Woods is a perfect fit for the UK roster. The UK fan base needs to get all the facts straight before blasting his recruitment. It sounds like he got a bad rap, even from Rick Bozich when he committed to Louisville. He would have a tremendous impact immediately.

  • I would not want Cal to get Woods. That's all we need; a woman beater. We'll be just fine without him. If there's ANY question about what happened, we need to drop him like a hot potato. It just doesn't pay to flirt with the "devil".

    ukwriter

  • I don't know all the facts but do know that Woods talked to Cal, Barnhart, and Todd. If they listened to him and decided it was worth the risk I would have no problem with their decision.

There is a link in the Tony Woods thread on the free board that you need to read, before labeling him a "woman beater"

  • Woods was an average to below average player at Wake forest and didn't play last year. While i think our coaches are very very good, what leads us to believe that he'll be better than Vargas?

Couple his lower performance with his past and I believe that we should stay away from him. If he was a model citizen then perhaps you take a chance on him and have a nice big body. Given his past, I say stay away.

In the end, I will trust cal and co.

The guy was the overall #3 center two years ago. He has shown some skill at some time in his life..........and I am pretty sure Cal is a much better developer of talent the 95% of coaches. This would include the staff that was at WF.

  • Sounds like to me the kid made a mistake(yes hitting a woman is terrible) but by his girlfriends statments it was overblown. I CAL, LT and MB are satisfied with what they learned/Heard from the interview then I am more than will;ing to give the kid a chance.

Again, you all need to read the story before judging! From what I gather, there is reason to give this kid the benefit of the doubt and for those that think Woods would not fit into our system, you need to go watch video of him. He has athleticism and I do believe that Cal can bring out the best in him!

I personally would love to see Cal bring him into the system. I have never said anything negative about the kid, even when UL was recruiting him and I do believe that he deserves another chance. I don't believe that he beats up on women and I do believe that the original stories on the case were blown way out of proportion and all of us UK fans can understand that!

  • I'm all for the kid getting a second chance, but I'd rather not have him at UK. We have enough drama around our program without bringing in a kid with this in his past. We are not Memphis and can recruit kids who are just as good or better than Woods without the baggage. I'll trust Cal, Mitch and Todd on this one, but count me in favor of passing on this young man.

  • As usual, the sports press, made a much bigger deal out of the Tony Woods story than was necessary. Even the girl friend, who was "pushed" by Woods says he is a good kid. If you read the entire story it looks as if the GF mother made it out to be more of a problem than it was. Anyway, the kid will probably go to Texas and now that Vargas is playing this summer, he will be much better next year and UK probably doesn't need Woods.

Cal is the King of the second chances. If Cal, and the administration believe the kid deserves a chance I will trust them. But, this could be a very thin line UK is walking.

    this.

I'll trust their judgement, but I'd prefer to pass. We don't need it.

What happens if Woods is named Thursday in the Wake Forest rape scandal? I really don't think he was involved but he was on the team and the names have not been released yet.

How many times has the abusee refused to press charges against the abuser in an abusive relationship. Apparently this wasn't the first time they were physical with each other. I wouldn't put much stock in her account today, no more than I would in her initial report anyway. It's a bad situation and one we do not need to get involved with.

Everyone deserves a 2nd chance, but the "gold standard" for college basketball shouldn't be the one give it to him.

    blue mold

  • This guy averaged what, 5 ppg or less at Wake Forest? I know he's a physical specimen and came out of high school highly touted, but I'm just not sure we need him. I won't second guess Cal though.

He's not named... it's Jeff Teague and Gary Clark, with Clark being the one accused. According to Miami police report the accuser (girl on Today Show) went to the basketball player's room after they lost to Cleveland State. Teague sent Clark and the girl into the bathroom and closed the door. The girl gave Clark oral sex. Teague then walked the girl back to her room. This is what's in the police report. There's much more to the story, it will be interesting to see what The Today Show tells tomorrow.

  • take him if and only if Woods himself was able to convince Todd, Barnhart, and Cal himself that he would be a good fit for this team.

as far as next year goes it will not be his point production that will be most valuable, it will be his defense and his 5 fouls that he has to give.

  • As I posted in the Inklings, who's had more success with kids like Woods than Calipari? No one.

  • If Calipari wants him then I want him. If The administrators don't want him, neither do I. The risk has to be very low to take the chance on Woods. It looks like he can be controlled with all the info that I have seen on him. You never have a pat hand on any of these kids, but I like what I see when al's involved with them.
