Trinity RB Dalyn Dawkins visiting today

  • There hasn't been much talk about this kid on the board (presumably because he's a Trinity kid), but his video is extremely impressive. He's quick, and an aggressive runner who isn't afraid to drop his shoulder and run over a defender. I really, really want Ryan Timmons, but Dawkins would be a nice piece, too.

I was saying this back in the spring..Daylan's highlight reel is very impressive..kid was a all-state performer at cb his sophmore year. Runs hard, making him look like a 4.3 type guy..I think he's more like 4.45..but his stop and start and lateral quicks are elite. Great hands coming out of the backfield..plays much larger than his 5'9 175 frame would suggest. Dayln is the nephew of NFL great Brian Dawkins..and if we could land him..it would give us an edge on Reggie Bonnafon..a 6'2 200lb QB/WR/ATH in the 2014 class from Trinity that we really need. Who knows? Mabye a Dawkins commit would get James Quick looking at us even more..and were 2nd in that race behind UofL..us and OSU neck and neck. We get Timmons..Dawkins..mabye..Quick..thats 3 tremendous playmakers to add to the likes of Sweat Robinson,Legree, Mobley,Clemons, Collins, ect ect.
I think we should have pushed hard for Dawkins..kids a player..has heart..has speed and hands.all the measurables are there..baffles me why we dont go hard after kids like this. As well, in Breathitt Co resides a player that is a great dual-threat QB and a even better SS/LB in Richard Trent..Trent is 6'1 220 ran a 4.53 at a UK camp this spring. 17 passing td to 2 ints, 13 rushing tds..half over 50 yards a pop. Plays a hybrid Rover/Bandit on defense..where he is 2nd in tkls, 1st in FF, couple of def. TD's. Big hitter with speed and toughness. Ball ST has offered as a QB..with teams like Purdue, Wisconsin, Ohio, WKU,EKu recruiting him..EKU,Ohio as QB..rest as SS. Trent would fill the hybrid S/LB role well..and would probably commit on the spot to a UK offer.
But yes..love Dayln Dawkins...need more in-state kids like DD!!

LMAO. Stopped reading there...We have about as good a shot at landing Quick as we do in going undefeated this year in football..

  • IMO, Dawkins isn't big or strong enough to play in the SEC. No way he beats out Clemons, Mobley, Taylor, George. There's a big difference in HS football and the SEC. He would be okay as punt or kickoff returner, but, I don't see him playing at an SEC level as a RB.. Personally, I'd pass.

I wouldn't mind having him as a change-of-pace back that can also split out wide and catch the ball. He doesn't have to be an every down back, he's a play-maker and UK can use all of those we can get. Guys off the bench have to be able to play as well and he would be a helluva back-up.

Nice to see some guys on this site actually understand football..not just try to pick apart everyone's posts and be negative... Dawkins has the skills to be an excellent APB..that runs the ball, but more often catches the ball on screens and wheel routes...brings the ability to make defenders miss in space..something that this UK offense needs. I'll say this..Dawkins has more heart than James Quick..Ive seen Quick take plays off..and when hit a few times..he lays down. Dawkins never hesitates or takes any play off. Quick needs to mature and get a lot tougher to play in the SEC. I watched him come off the field vs a hard hitting St/X team..when he was obvioulsy not injured but was getting out-physicaled. Ive watched about 8 Trinity games..I love Bonnafon...and I think Travis Wright is a sleeper QB. Quick has elite skills..but questionable work ethic and toughness..just my opinion. I really like DD..always runs hard and catches the ball well..is a high caliber cover corner.

Well, check out his current bio and it will show you this: UK is 2nd to UofL..Quick looks at the Cards and see's no less than 4 sophs and throw in frosh and incoming recruits..WR is crowded there. He could come to Uk and more than likely start or split snaps with one Wr...play early and have a chance to be a star. Quick is warm on Uk..all I was saying is landing Dawkins would only help..Im not saying Uk will land Quick..so whats your point..other than to nitpik on my post? I dont think we will get Quick...truth is..I question Quick's work ethic..Id rather have Dawkins and Timmons..I love Yancey..really want Reggie Bonnafon, Nacarius Fant, and Scott Daniel next year anyhow.

Quick re-visited Ohio State this weekend and told OSU reporters that his top two were Louisville and Ohio State, followed by Oregon. Please stop posting this nonsense.

  • I do not doubt DD's heart and ability in the least bit. But what I think is safe to say is that he is too small to be an every down back in the SEC. Seems to me like he needs to be a slot receiver. Again, according to Joker we want to run a pro style offense. DD reminds me an awful lot of the running backs we currently have injured. Koshik Williams runs as hard as any running back we have had here and it got him injured. No offense but a kid his size just can't take the physical beating week in and week out that comes with playing running back in the SEC. He's giving up 60 - 140lbs on almost every hit he will take in the SEC. I'm sorry, but the human body just can't take that kind of beating. That said, I'd still love to see him come here because he could definitely help.

And we aren't beating out Ohio St. for any wide receiver. At least not with this coaching staff. Hmm, come play for Joker and win 3-5 games or go to Columbus and play for the national title probably twice in my college career. Because Meyer will have them there.
