UGA Dismisses Three

  • Three members of last year's "Dream Team" recruiting class have been dismissed.

WR Sanford Seay, DB Nick Marshall and DB Chris Sanders were all dismissed from the team.

I guess it is not easy to stay out of trouble in Gainesville, Athens and to a lesser degree, Knoxville. Have you been to Knoxville? You have to go out of your way to get into trouble there. It has more to do with the support staff imo. I heard a funny story today. A guy's brother saw former UT DT Shaun Ellis released from handcuffs into the custody of Phil Fulmer. The media never got wind and a police report was never filed.

Serious question, would you have a problem if UK took a few of these kids?

I think we promote an environment that will help keep them out of trouble.

I think you have to look at each case individually. I do, however, think it is really hard to get kicked off an SEC team if you are talented. Heck Richt recruited a kid in jail for heavens sake. It all about winning in the SEC. So if GA is booting them then the negative likely outweighs the positives to the team. I would welcome any kid at KY because I do think Joker is an honest guy and puts kids in position to succeed in life. If people knew the half of what M Crawford did and how Joker handled it they would understand. So yea, if Joker added them I'd be fine with it because I trust Joker to handle it the right way.

Depends on what they did to get dismissed.. and if they're approachable to the 'Cats, and the atmosphere .

Yes I would have a problem. Think of what it takes to get dismissed at a UGA and at UT. I don't know that ANY support system would keep that from happening. This is why I'm encouraged with Joker and Co's approach to recruiting that in the long run high character kids will win out. They have to be talented, but I would rather have high character 3 star type players than questionable character 4 star players. That's not to say you can't OCCASIONALLY take a risk on a player that is a DIFFERENCE MAKER. But by and large if Joker's philosophy of high character kids and graduating players holds true Kentucky can start to win big.

The question I worry about is Joker a good enough coach to do it. My hope is that he is. But the jury is still out on that. I have no problem with our recruiting. It is getting better and we seem to be getting good (high character) kids.

If you're refering to the story from a month ago, the headline was very misleading and unfair to repeat if you didn't read the article.
The kid was part owner in a bail bond business with his grandfather and had to go to post bond for someone while Richt was visiting. The kid was not IN jail.

If they got kicked off the team - they probably did something.

  • Richt is a good guy, but he also has a lot of his mentor, Bowden, in him - he believes it's better to keep them on the team and "save" them than to kick them off and not have any structure. These guys must have really messed up bad to have gotten the boot so quick, but Richt was also taking a lot of heat locally for being too lax a couple of years back, so he may be changing his philosophy a bit.

Richt also went to church to recruit JHC, but I guess that's okay with bigcat...

  • Like it or not, it takes a good number of thugs to win conference and BCS championships. The hope is that you can keep them in check relatively well. Sometimes it escalates to where you have to get rid of them.
