UGA picks up 16th verbal commitment...

  • ... today. That's just crazy. Not even June yet. By contrast, the Dawgs signed only 19 players in February.

Cats still standing at one. Gotta figure the staff would like to add 2-3 during this upcoming camp cycle. UK needs some momentum.

So who's going to be No. 2 for Big Blue?

  • I'm gonna say an instate kid, someone that believes in blue.
A lot of negative press over joker being thrown in the recruits faces.

I think the main sells UK has right now is family atmosphere, early pt, academics (cats center), and sec.

Looks like UGA is pulling a Texas (albeit I haven't looked at their list yet) and locking up in state talent early, then narrowing it down and focusing in game changers even more later on.

Could be a good thing for Uk considering how many kids UK pulls out of there, UGA and ga tech can't take em all.

  • Hell look at Texas A&M. 15 commitments, all from Texas, with 7 of them being 4*.

  • Bright side...UK loves picking up kids from GA and with the Dogs filling up the bus...should leave kids open to commit to UK vs. waiting to see what UGA is going to do.

    K__TIME

  • This is easy, look at this from a basketball point of view. Look what UK gets in basketball and GA in basketball ????
GA is a football school, UK is not. GA has a ton of talent around them to get. UK does not.

UK could take a ton of 2 star in state kids but you can't win with that. GA has what 50 to 75 4star and better kids to draw from each yr. KY as a state has what 3 to 5 4 star kids at most to draw from.

  • My buddy is the head coach at South Oldham. Chuck Smith visited last week and my friend asked him "how hot it the seat you guys are on?". Chuck replied, "pretty darn hot". Many highschool coaches know it and aren't going to let their players commit to a school in that situation. It is what it is. UK and Joker has to win games to change it.

  • I think any additional early commitments will come from out of state prospects, primarily those in the South. There is just so much negativity bombarding in state prospects, so I think any additional in state players considering UK will wait and see how UK looks this fall. Meanwhile, some of your prospects from the deep South just hear less of that on a day to day basis and view an offer from UK as a chance to play in the SEC.

You may hate those comments as I hate to write them. But the truth is what it is. PERIOD.

That is untill the over all football talent in the high schools here in KYcan get much better.

To play in the SEC is tuff, unlike Lville where avg talent can get you to a BCS bowl.

I do agree, the thing is how much in state talent is there to make you a winner ????
If UK could land every top 10 player in the state would not be enough. Three 4 star players and 7 3 star players would be nice, but it would not be enough to take that big step up the SEC ladder.

    dvillepro1

  • Don't forget that JD Harmon is technically a 2013 commit. Also David Washington could be listed as a commit based on various interviews with him from other sites.

There not enough talent, in state. No doubt about that. The majority of UK's roster will continue to be out of state kids. However, IMO, UK's best chance to get difference maker sorts of recruits, the so called 4-stars, is in state kids, so the staff at UK needs to land every sort of kid like that that they reasonably can. They got Towles in the last class, but appears that they'll miss on the top few kids in this next class.

    Jeremy Grey

  • Recruits that keep an ear close to the ground know there's a very good chance that Joker and staff will be gone after next year. So they're going to be quite hesitant to sign up with the Cats. Certainly can't blame them for that.

    t75

  • UK has averaged right around 7 in-state recruits the last few years--the same number we've averaged from Georgia.

  • The largest concentration of elite football athletes in the Commonwealth, year in and year out, is in Jefferson Co. Like it or not that is the truth. Yes, there are sprinklings around the state from year and year but the best athletes and the best football is played in Jefferson Co.

Sadly, because of UofL any gains UK makes are minimized due to the relationship that school has with the community, particularly the African-American community. Until UofL is marginalized and we can keep the elite instate athletes from looking elsewhere...UK football will always face an uphill climb. There is not enough talent in this state to support two programs, let alone an elite level SEC program. The population numbers and demographics just aren't there.

I agree with what you are saying, and it is much tougher in Jefferson Co. after a year when UL beat us on the field.

  • Think I read somewhere that Charlie Strong said he wanted to have his class wrapped up sooner rather than later. Cards have eight current commitments.

  • The thing is no matter who the coach is at UK, we will always loose out on some top talent. Like 2 yrs ago
Lamar Dawson from here in Boyle co was neaver ever going to go to UK, Tenn nor Lville.
I know him and his family like family.... He wanted as far away from Junction city as poss. and he did just that. He loved Joker and UK but it was a family matter.
If UK lands evry top 10 player each yr from KY and they can land 6 to 8 more 4 star players from out of state then yes they could move up the ladder.
