UK Football incoming freshmen...

  • Someone asked recently about how many guys in UK's signing class had already made it to campus. I checked in with Tony Neely this week and he tells me that it's been the best year they've ever had in that regard. He said all but one has already made it, and they expect the last guy to be here in early August. Trying to confirm who the final guy is. Got a hunch, but want to make sure.

  • Great to hear. Of couse, being on campus doesn't always mean they're cleared to play, but its a great start. I'm interested to hear who the last remaining player is.

  • Demarcus Sweat tweeted something yesterday that seemed to say he just made it to campus. Shawn Blaylock also tweeted on Monday that Sweat should be on campus in a couple days (they are to be roommates and both from Stephenson).
Great news that we're just waiting for 1 guy. Summer workouts really help the chemistry, which we'll really need this year.

  • The one who hasn't made it yet has to be Tiller, right? He's a guy I know had some academic concerns. Hope he gets everything sorted out and gets on campus ASAP.

Depending on when Jeff talked with Neely, it could be that Sweat was the last one left.

  • "Aaron" said that Tiller has performed really well in the 7 on 7 drills thus far this summer. Must be someone else.

  • We need em all. Not one guy in this class that I'd be willing to sacrifice. Well there may be 1 or 2 but I hope everybody makes it nonetheless.

  • Awesome news JD..now..lets just hope the ol Academic bug dosent jump up and bite us. JOker does a great job of recruiting high character kids...but sometimes a Tyrone Pearson or Daniel Ross pops us and gets the big head and thinks no way they fail me. If you put any effort at all into school work..you will graduate...especially so if you have a potential career as a SEC/NFL ball player. I'd love to have Pearson and Ross here. Both were prototype DE's in the 3-4 and Pearson had size to slide inside at DT.
    AS for 2012...
heres the true frosh I think can help immeadiately.

    1. A.J. LeGree I am so sold on this kid. He was the state runner-up in the high jump as a SOPHOMORE....then went on to win the high jump both his junior and senior years. IM hearing 46...to 47" vertical...(JD..any confirmation on his VJ?) Kid is 6'1 190 well built..lays out to make amazing diving grabs...decent blocker...sacrifices his body to make the play.

    2. Landon Foster. thats right. If this kid dosent pan out your gonna get to see how spoiled UK fans have been by TIm Masthay Ryan Tydlacka and others. UK was blessed with super punters the last oh, 10 years or so...that can be huge...go 3 and out inside our own 30, punter trots out...if he can boom a 50 yarder...with hang time..opponent starts out at thier 20..mabye 25. If the punter shanks it..30 yarder..opponent has the ball inside mid-field or no worse than thier 40-45!

3.Dyshawn Mobley May not get the chance b/c of stacked backfield..but DM has the idea size/power/speed ratio you want in a everydown SEC back. Has tremendous field vision..makes intelligent cuts that dont slow him down..and gets north/south in a hurry.

    4. Fred Tiller CB. We need depth at CB. bad..so you can throw in Cody Quinn and Jon Reed here too. From the reports Joker has been giving the BBN..Marcus Caffey is a 200lb Trevard Lindley...and Cartier Rice is playing better than anticipated....so the starting corners are set...behind them...no experience Eric Simmons is insanely athletic and has nice size...Eric Dixon can play corner or saftey. WE need at least 1 of the true frosh cb's to add depth this year..I think Tiller will.

5.DeMarcus Sweat. Tall, well built and fast. Played in a heavy run to pass ratio offense...so his blocking should be a plus. Long arms..wiry kid..has strength..some say he tends to lose focus and needs to work on his hands a lil bit. Pat Washington will ensure that happens. D Sweat could be a major steal for Uk if he has the heart and desire..which no one can coach!

Well..theres my picks for immeadiate athletic injection into UK's football program for 2012. Foster will be huge. Yes..hes a punter..I know..but from what I know..no one on campus could punt good enough for SEC play before he came to LEX.

Now..that said...I think both Thomas Chapman and Pat Graffree will be huge factors down the road..they can develop slowly...behind thye best DT tandem in the SEC...Mister Cobble and Donte Rumph...I dont care what Phil Steele says...those 2 are as good a tandem as you'll find in the best conference in college football. Chapman is a beast..and is quick for his massive size...and Graffree is a lean 280 at 6'5 with long arms...he'll be a perfect SSDE in the 3-4.

I think the LB's in this class are great. Kadeem Thomas...Luv that kids desire..Khalid Henderson..fast OLB type that could play the Cat hybrid S/LB that GUY vacated. Daron Blaylock has the speed and size to play Will backer...or the hybrid saftey spot as well.

I love the O-line class..Swindle is a beast at 6'8 290 with long arms and a mean streak...he'll have to lay off the extra hits on his knocked down opponents or that will draw some flags in SEC..but I love the mean streak. T.J Jones was a nice get..big, strong, quick. Jon Toth and Zach Meyers..Jordan Watson..all good gets IMO.

So important. It's not just who you can get a commitment from, it's who you can get to campus.
