UK-MSU: Who would you give the game ball?

  • I'm going with Darius Miller, but I think you can make a case for 3-4 different guys.

Miller started slow (classic Darius style) but made HUGE shots down the stretch. He looked like the best player on the court.

  • Darius. Scored all 12 of his points during the decisive final 8 minutes and the 3 free throws were the final turning point.

And then the dagger he tossed in at the end of the shot clock from about 25 feet.

  • Miller without doubt. He was HUGE in the 2nd half. His threes were key and kept UK close. Love the game MKG played, but Miller was the man in Starkville.

  • I would cut the ball in half, Miller definitely pulled them out at the end, but MKG played by far the best overall game.

  • I say MKG....but heck they all played well and did things they had to do in order to get the W. I thought about going with ya'll on Miller too, but Miller came up big in the second half. MKG had a complete game. His extra work on his shooting before the game boosted his offense and kept us in the game for a while when nobody else could do anything and his second half clamp down of Bost can't be overlooked. That's not to mention his basket down low in traffic to give us the lead for the first time, and clutch free throws to go along with his LION HEART....that's it.. I think it's MKG! One thing's for sure, this team didn't get rattled panic even tho they were down so much on the road. They dug in and clawed back and then it was like they just were not gonna be denied!!! lynchmob

    MKG!!! That's my pick! bow

    onemansleg

  • Yeah I think MKG is equally deserving as Miller. His defense on bost was huge but Miller seemed to make big shot after big shot.

After further deliberation I think I'd have to split it.

    montana81

  • Miller for sure.

  • Miller hit some key shots, but it was K-G's energy that boosted us. I say him.

  • Really tough call. Obviously Miller was huge over the last 8 minutes. As the senior, he knew exactly what he had to do and went out there and done it. The young Miller would have been a lost cause after struggling early. His 3 at the 1:27 mark (not sure about the time) was dagger.

MKG is the leader of this team however. Everything about this kid reminds me of Ricky Bobby...he pisses excellence. His intensity on the and 1 that gave us the lead was just awesome, and his reaction to the call...man you have to be dead not to get amped up by that.

One guy that no one is talking about however is Terrence Jones. He had a great
2nd half. Yes, MKG shut down Bost (which was huge!) but the Jones did an outstanding job on the SEC's leading rebounded, as well as being in the top 5 in several other categories. He was a beast tonight.

I really think the game ball shijkd be given to the team. This was as good a TEAM win as we have had all year. Everyone made key plays at key times. Just an awesome performance by a very special team. I have thought it all season, but after last night, I am really believe this is a team of destiny. They are special. They could be one of the great teams of all time. They play hard, they play together, and as we have all heard a few times ...they have an amazing will to win.
I know its much of a possibility but I could see these freshman wanting to come back and play another season together. I think they are that close. Not saying they will, just sayin I could see them wanting to.

Anyway, if I had to choose one player I'd probably go with Mike. What a warrior.

It drives me CRAZY how this kid is hyped up each and every single year and how he has si much potential. I have yet to see it. He's just an overweight kid with a poor attitude IMO. Didn't he finish with 3 points and 1 rebound? Yeah...I'm OK with him getting the game ball.

I'd also be willing to give to Stansberry, just for being a doucher. Damn it I wanted to see Beckham get some minutes last night.

I guess we could all agree that Sidney is just..... (wait for it.....)

    A HUGE disappointment!! lol

Stansbury did a terrible job. With Moultrie and Sidney how do you not pound it inside on every possesion to try to get Davis in foul trouble? I'd like to thank him lol

  • I'd have to split the ball between Miller and MKG. Without either one of them we don't pull that one out.

    eagle_man

  • Miller. Man, he is clutch.

    usa1000

  • Miller was great, but the key to the game, to me, was MKG's defense on Bost. Put that with 18 pointts and 10 rebounds, and I'd go with him.

    old jim

  • I say split between miller and MKG. Miller was huge late and the key spark for us but MKG's and1 and his D on Bost not only to prevent him from scoring, but he prevented a lot of post passes and potential back door cuts. Both were nothing but HUGENORMOUSLY BIG for us last night

  • MKG kept us in the game but Miller pulled it out at the end and put the team on his back. His shoting and key steal came at winning time. MKG was a close second.

    zcats

  • I agree with either Miller, MKG, or Jones. But some things Davis did last night could not be done by most of the NBA bigs.

Ricky Bobby??? Really? Really? Really?????? I guess he and Miller were putting on a little shake and bake!

  • And this thread is a perfect explanation of why this team will likely be there at the very end fighting for a national championship. Davis with a double-double and a huge block on Moultrie down the stretch and he barely gets a mention. Terrence Jones has an outstanding second half on both ends and barely a mention. Lamb steps up and runs the team over the final eight minutes with Teague on the bench -- no mention. Of course, the two guys that get most of the attention deserve it as they stepped up time and again with big plays.

These guys are the most mentally-tough team I can remember at UK. They dig in on defense and MKG just seems to will himself to score when the team needs it. Having Miller step up at crunch time makes a tough comback an easy win.

But it all starts with Cal. He is pushing all of the right buttons with this team.

  • ^ I'm glad you mentioned Lamb. For whatever reason the offense was much better with him in there instead of Teague. So even though I'd give my game ball to Miller Kidd-Gilchrist, I don't know if they win without Lamb's effort.

Lamb's defense is the biggest reason MSU was drilling us. He missed assignment after assignment. That's the worst defense I've ever seen him play, including last year.
