UK PGs in the NBA

  • Rank them.

    1) Rondo- hands down
    2) Bledsoe- has the advantage of learning under Billups and CP3. Future at PG for the Clippers
    3) Wall- has the ability to move up a spot if he turns in a big year after injury. Doesn't help he's in a terrible organization.
    4) Knight- could move up if the Pistons didn't have Stuckey. Should trade one of the two, preferrably Stuckey as you have two of the same type of players and Knight is the future like Bledsoe.
    5) Teague- rookie. Even us fans dog rookies on certain occasions. He will be fine and what PG is there better to learn under than Rose?

Look forward to hearing the thoughts of my other basketball-crazed fans.

  • 1. Rondo...now the undisputed leader of the C's. Will average over 10 assist per game and as many points as he wants to a point.
    2. Wall...once he gets healthy, breakout season coming. He started putting the pieces together at the end of last year and he has more help now. 19 points and 9 assists per.
    3. Knight...bright spot for Detroit right now and I suspect he'll be much improved in his second season. 20 pts and 6 assists on a bad team.
    4. Teague...will play while Rose recovers, won't play when he gets back. He's a rookie PG on a good team. Play D and set up your team. 10 points and 5 assists.
    5. Bledsoe...career backup at PG. Has earned minutes with the Clips, but just like last year they are loaded with vets in the backcourt. 7 points and 2.5 assists.
    6. Saul Smith...oops! lol Sorry, just a joke.

  • I have to agree with your #1 pick Rondo, can you imagine if he could shoot the ball from the 3 point line he would become Hall of Fame material but he needs some youth in Boston. Im a fan of the Celtics but age is catching up with them. Again your correct about Wall being in a losing organization but I think he is #2. I have no idea how good Teague will be Ive not seen him play yet in the pros. I have concerns on how Knight will turn out in Detroit and finally Bledsoe, I didnt see him much last year so I dont really know about how he is being used so I have nothing to base an opinion upon.

  • First off, Bledsoe is not a career backup. Something will have to give there soon.

    1. Rondo. Duh.
    2. Wall. Team sucks, he doesn't.
    3. Bledsoe. He has to stay healthy. Otherwise, the rest is irrelevant.
    4. Knight. Knight has the 3 point shot, a few years experience and has been fairly consistent.
    5. Teague. Could be higher eventually, but he is a rookie and has proven to be quite inconsistent in the past.

I can agree with this assessment. Don't get me wrong Wall is the better of he and Bledsoe but it is pretty close. If Wall was surrounded by some of the talent on the Clippers he would be a perennial all star.

  • I don't see Bledsoe in the same universe as Wall. Wall is a 20 pts 10 assist guy... Bledsoe will struggle to avg 20 minutes a game. If he was almost as good as Wall that would not be the case.

Remember that the Clippers added to their backcourt this past offseason. They didn't create minutes for Bledsoe.

CP3 is better than Wall, let alone Bledsoe. You can't use that as a point. Wall would be playing backup minutes to CP3. The Clippers added Jamal Crawford, that's it. Crawford is a 2G. Billups or Bledsoe will get minutes behind Paul and I think that is determined by the situation. Billups is known for his poise and leadership. Bledsoe is going to be his energy and playmaking ability. I think you are definitely underestimating him. The Clippers are in an enviable position.

  • 1. Rondo and it's not close
    2. toss up between the three of Wall/Bledsoe/Knight. Really not much seperation
    3. distant drop off down to Teague

  • If the Clips had Wall, they would play him....they would have too, he's too good not to play. Actually, they might just trade him, but the point stands he's too good to sit. Bledsoe isn't too good to sit. That's the minutes point.

I don't see Bledsoe EVER starting in LA on a full-time basis, unless it is due to injury, and I really like Bledsoe. Nothing against the guy. I live in LA and go to Clips games just to see him play...I mean it doesn't hurt they have Blake and CP3, but I wouldn't pay money unless Bledsoe is on the active roster.

Hey, I hope I'm wrong, I hope he becomes an all-star and has a 15 year run in the league.

  • The clippers are using line ups in preseason with both bledsoe and cp3 because bledsoe is that talented. Look at his stat line from the other night.

    curtisburch

  • The crowd, players, and coaches love Bledsoe. He is their future PG.

  • Um,

some of you need to calm down about EB and BK being even with Wall...

Billups is hurt...CP3 is recovering from thumb surgery...the kid is going to play...but when they are healthy he's going to be lucky to get 20 minutes a game. Look, we can argue until we are blue in the face. We don't agree...that's fine. Let's just sit back and watch the season unfold. That's the only way this debate can be solved.

If the future is in 5-6 years then maybe he is the PG of the future, but don't be surprised when Paul re-signs with LA and he's still a backup. No, the Clips aren't going to let Paul walk because they have a cheaper capable replacement waiting....it's just not how the NBA works.

  • Well, Sports Illustrated just tabbed Bledsoe as being one of their candidates for breakout player of the year. Everybody here knows Wall is the second best UK PG in the league. I ranked Bledsoe ahead because Wall was out and he really didn't improve a whole lot from his rookie season. With that said, Bledsoe is one of the premier young PGs in the league. To think otherwise is absolutely foolish. Besides Kyrie Irving and Wall what PGs would you rather have since the 2010 draft? I understand if you say Knight, but after him would you rather have Bledsoe or a smallish Kemba Walker? Bledsoe or Damian Lillard? Bledsoe or Kendal Marshall?

Bledsoe is clearly the second best PG in his draft class, and was drafted as such. Plus, if you look at some of the guys drafted before him (as happened to Rondo) you can bet your top dollar some NBA GMs regret not taking him earlier. So of those players drafted ahead of him are: Wes Johnson (he's been okay), Derrick Favors (disappointment so far), Ekpe Udoh (Who?), Cole Aldrich, Xavier Henry, Luke Babbit. I would rather have Bledsoe on my team than any of those guys. Just saying.

Allow me to be a bit of a headache....

Wall turned it on at the end of last season...his problem is as much the talent around him and MUCH MUCH higher expectations than Bledsoe as it is them being close in talent. I mean Wall averaged 16 pts and 8 assists and Bledsoe averaged 3 pts and 2 assists. Surely, you can see ranking Bledsoe ahead of Wall was not the right call based on pure numbers. Their rookie seasons Wall averaged the same and Bledsoe's averages were a little higher, likely based on more PT. So, with two seasons of data the numbers are in NO WAY close. It seems any conclusion to rank Bledsoe ahead of Wall is just favoritism at best.

I agree with you on Walker and Marshall, but they all have a long way to go in their careers. Lillard hasn't played a real game yet, but I bet a majority of GMs would take him over Bledsoe.

I don't put a lot of stock in the writings of Sport's Illustrated. To use that as proof you were correct about something, when it is a prediction, doesn't cut it. We can talk again in June and see where we are at. Maybe by then I will be eating crow. I agree, he is going to make a lot of GM's look bad. We are agreeing on a lot of things too, but I think you have overrated him. No harm in that, as we all have our opinions on the subject. I am looking forward to things tipping off this week and all of us getting some answers.

  • I'll have to agree with ja here ... no way you can logically rank Bledsoe ahead of Wall. I'd have a hard time listing Bledsoe ahead of Knight as well.

  • Until Bledsoe gets traded, he won't be ranked above Rondo, Wall, or Knight. The dude is sitting behind Chris Paul guys. He has to become a free agent or be traded, period. Wall is putting up good numbers, just needs to limit the TO's, Rondo, is just an assist machine, and Knight at least starts for the Pistons. I would just have a hard time ranking him higher until he gets his shot and proves himself. Until then, I put him at 4. And yes, I'd rather have Bledsoe than many of the players in his draft class, but I agree with jam, I guarantee a majority of NBA GM's and scouts/staff would pick Lillard over Bledsoe. Let's not forget, Lillard is an absolute stud, and I can't wait to watch him play this year.

I agree no harm in thinking I have him overrated. Honestly, I would play favoritism to Wall over Bledsoe. I just think Bledsoe is much better than some on here are giving him credit for. Not just you. Bledsoe is in the perfect situation for a breakout season though, just as SI is predicting. Think for a moment, Billups is up there and likely won't play the whole season. CP3 is injury prone and likely will miss a significant amount of games with the return of a full season and coming off a gold medal. That will leave plenty of minutes for Bledsoe to eat up and develop around a very talented basketball team.

As for Wall, the thing that hurts him more than expectations is the fact he's on a crappy team with crappy management. The other is the fact his jumper is beyond suspect (which is very fixable) and the fact that he hasn't figured out crafty ways to score like a Rondo has. Wall tries to rely too much on his athleticism in a league that is filled with guys that are similar athletes. The thing about that is he's young and to hit the nail on the head for good doesn't have the most talented guys around him. Having Bradley Beal, Ariza and Nene should help, but the Wizards are still two to three bad seasons and homerun draft picks away from having a solid young team. They don't possess much in trading leverage outside of Wall or Beal, so unless they trade one of them or sign a solid FA then they're looking to upgrade through the draft. So Wall could still have a couple of tough years ahead of him. They might be ahead rebuilding if Jan Vesely can make a splash this year.

Read the fact that Mahoney makes note of in SI. The link is to Cal's website. If you don't feel like clicking it I will state it for you. Bledsoe led the NBA, yes the league, in adjusted +/- in both the regular season and playoffs last year in just his second year. It's unlikely that he does that again this year with increased playing time, but it's clear good things happen for the Clippers with Bledsoe on the floor.

I will acknoledge that I should have originally have ranked Wall behind Rondo, but with all due respect to Knight (who is one of my favorite players by the way) Bledsoe is the better NBA PG at this point in time.

  • I also think Bledsoe will be amazing.

    However, Wall is already amazing.

You can't deny the 16, 8, 6 stats. That's impressive considering the injury, bad teammates, and trades.

With better teammates and with Bradley, Wall should be much better.

Bledsoe will still play behind Paul. Unless that changes, he won't exactly be the guy. (however, it's matter of time.)

Wall if he shows improvement and steady teammates can average this, this season.

    18 ppg, 10 apg, and 4 rpg.
That's starting to look really good.

signature image signature image signature image

  • Yep if Wall averages something like that and the Wizards improve quite a bit and at least challenge for the playoffs you'll see his stock rise quite a bit around the league. Thats the thing with EB and being a back up. He isn't directly responsible for the teams win/loss record therefore its hard to tell how good he really seeing as how thats really how guys are measured in the end especially PG's.

  • I noticed watching a clip of Wall this summer that he's bulked up a little bit. That should help.
