UK Recruiting Ranking Improvement

  • Josh Edwards said...

I got down voted for pointing out that Southern Cal has 16 recruits rated 4* or better? Lol. I'm sorry...?

Welcome to my world on a very temporary basis at least. You should have never been down voted for saying what you did, I dont see the problem from any angle that deserves a down vote for your post and I too will give you a +1

Yeah.....UK football got me pumped up.......saw my first UK football game at Auburn, Alabama in about 1962. Have seen a bunch of disappointing seasons BUT do believe the right group are in the pilots' seats now.

Like on the movie "Open Range" when the livery stable owner (aka "Old Timer"), during the big shootout told "Boss" (Robert Duvall) and Charley Waite (Kevin Costner) as to why he missed a shot with his rifle....."That Cuban cigar got me riled up" gungun

We werent too bad back in 1976 and 77 if I do say so myself.(Just some shameful boasting on my part)

We will never get there. Not a knock on the program, just the facts. It's hard not having a strong home recruiting ground. Southern Cal almost has a monopoly on the state of California's football recruits. Stanford takes some, Notre Dame seems to take a few, Oregon takes some, Cal takes a few, but when you think about it....that's nothing.

UCLA is getting into that market too. Mora is a beast!

  • With the right coaches and system--I believe we may have them right now--UK should have a perrenial top 25 recruiting class. That would make us very competitive in the SEC and nationally too. This year though I'll be happy to have a class in the 30-40 range.

Not to mention a better coach than Laney! Kiffin is absolute garbage. I would never ever send my son (if I had one) to play for that douche.

  • I'd love to see Mora start beating up on little Lane. Make USC, UCLA's little brother.

Yeah, but when the state of California alone has 30-40 WRs of James Quicks ability or better and another 80-100 of Ryan Timmons ability, there's plenty to go around..

Truly Great Teams......I remember them well....I'd just moved to Lexington...only loss was to Baylor on the road on a very, very hot day

The 1984 team was not too shabby either......We have had our moments for sure

sorry for the double post Sleepy....I misfired on the first attempt...

  • The thing with USC having 4 and 5 star kids is that they will probably perform on the 3 star level because of Lane Kiffin's coaching ability will hold them back.

That Baylor team was really good at least against us they were It was so hot that day I bet I drank 2 gallons of water or more that game. If it hadnt of been for some stuff that most of us on the team had nothing to do with we would have won the SEC outright and who knows what would have happened after that. The Peach Bowl we won was such a thrill and what a football high we all had when that clock ran down to zero. Thanks for the response Sleepy

  • You were on those teams.......didn't know Sleepy. I had just moved to Lexington in 77......full time student & full time job...beertended at the "Brewery" on Rose Street across from the dorms.
I went to Med School with Tom Ranieri and Jim Kovacs.
Jim stayed with me a while when he was playing for the Saints (in off season).
Two pretty good footballers for sure.

Never is a strong word. And I can use WVA as a team that was once as bad as we were if not worse. And it is a knock to the program whether you meant it or not.

Back then it was nothing like today. There were a few guys like Art and Derrick that would be recognized walking around campus or going to Joe Bolognas' for pizza or his great bread sticks. I miss going to Joes place, we were pretty close. But after UK I went on to graduate school and moved to WV to work. Then I moved to Ohio where I have been for a while now. I was having my left knee drained really often during the season and if that knee hadnt been the way it was I think a shot in the NFL might have been possible but in reality Im not sure at all that I was good enough to play at that level knee problem or not. These guys today are so big and fast it makes me cringe to think that I would have to go up against them. I was 6'3 and maybe 285 and thats small nowadays for a DL. Art was really big and really good and so was Warren. but that was whern I was young and now Im old and watch football and b-ball and marvel how good these guys are today. Good to talk with you Take care

    1. I guess I don't follow Southern Cal recruiting close enough.

    2. Pointing something out about another team doesn't mean the guys we signed are junk...

    3. Saying UK will never recruit to the level Southern Cal is is not a knock on the Kentucky program nor does it mean that Kentucky can not compete with them on the football field. Southern Cal is just in an enviable position. Kentucky isn't California, Florida, Texas, Ohio, Georgia or even Pennsylvania as far as producing talented football players annually.

Drink the kool aid, but don't spike it.

This post...and your original...make no sense....to me anyway...I didnt down vote you either...but you arent comparing apples to apples...who cares...on this board...or in this conference...how many 4 and 5 stars southern cal has? First off...I am not a big fan of the star rating system....5s are not far ahead of 4s and 4s are not far ahead of 3s etc. And most of our 3s if they had played for the right school or been from Cali or were committed/recruited by a team such as USC or Bama or Florida, would be 4 stars or 5 just because of who recruited them. Thats why I do not like the star ratings. Making a comparison to Alabamas class or Floridas would be different...but Southern Cal?

Southern Cal has 16 commitments. All are 5 or 4* recruits...

My good friend Lamar Dawson is haveing a great start at USC.

Just to let evryone know on this site he was neaver ever going to come to UK. Not even if Nick GOD Sabin was coaching here. It had to do with his family problems here.

So wish him well there. even if the slime bag of a coach is coaching him.

Yea well cheating will get you great teams. but you get caught when you do it.

Sorry guys just have to add that to this post.

We do things the right way and the bricks fall as they may.

I'm not advocating that we go and out and start cheating our ace off. However, cheating today gets you a slap on the wrist compared to cheating in the Curci years.

When Alabama and LSU played in the BSC title game last year, both were on probation. South Carolina is no. 10 in the BSC rankings right now. Also on probation.

There was a chance of Lamar coming here...didn't have a good relationship with minter at all. His family played a part, and all in all he wanted to get as far away from here as possible but UK had its shot. I haven't seen him since this time last year, he loves it out there. How do you know Raymond?

Why compare our class to USC?

Let's compare it to Vandy, Mizzou, Miss State, Ole Miss and even USCjr. and UGA...there was a point in time when we were ahead of the MS teams, Vandy and were neck and neck with USCjr. and that's where we need to get back to...

  • How much higher will our ranking go up if we add Ryan Timmons, Lovell Peterson, Lauren Jackson, Maurice Swain and Ra'shad Samples.. I ask this because I think we have a real shot at all 5 of these guys.. I'd guess we would get in the mid 30s at worse, possibly inside the Top 30..
