Yeah.....UK football got me pumped up.......saw my first UK football game at Auburn, Alabama in about 1962. Have seen a bunch of disappointing seasons BUT do believe the right group are in the pilots' seats now.
Like on the movie "Open Range" when the livery stable owner (aka "Old Timer"), during the big shootout told "Boss" (Robert Duvall) and Charley Waite (Kevin Costner) as to why he missed a shot with his rifle....."That Cuban cigar got me riled up"

We will never get there. Not a knock on the program, just the facts. It's hard not having a strong home recruiting ground. Southern Cal almost has a monopoly on the state of California's football recruits. Stanford takes some, Notre Dame seems to take a few, Oregon takes some, Cal takes a few, but when you think about it....that's nothing.

Truly Great Teams......I remember them well....I'd just moved to Lexington...only loss was to Baylor on the road on a very, very hot day
The 1984 team was not too shabby either......We have had our moments for sure
sorry for the double post Sleepy....I misfired on the first attempt...

You were on those teams.......didn't know Sleepy. I had just moved to Lexington in 77......full time student & full time job...beertended at the "Brewery" on Rose Street across from the dorms. I went to Med School with Tom Ranieri and Jim Kovacs. Jim stayed with me a while when he was playing for the Saints (in off season). Two pretty good footballers for sure.

1. I guess I don't follow Southern Cal recruiting close enough.
2. Pointing something out about another team doesn't mean the guys we signed are junk...
3. Saying UK will never recruit to the level Southern Cal is is not a knock on the Kentucky program nor does it mean that Kentucky can not compete with them on the football field. Southern Cal is just in an enviable position. Kentucky isn't California, Florida, Texas, Ohio, Georgia or even Pennsylvania as far as producing talented football players annually.
Drink the kool aid, but don't spike it.

My good friend Lamar Dawson is haveing a great start at USC.
Just to let evryone know on this site he was neaver ever going to come to UK. Not even if Nick GOD Sabin was coaching here. It had to do with his family problems here.
So wish him well there. even if the slime bag of a coach is coaching him.
