UK gets a big lineman prospect to walk on

  • Do you guys think this is insurance in case that Haynes doesn't sign?

  • I don't think he's on the same level as Haynes but we are getting walkons these days that we used to give schollys to.

Really you believe that?!? We werent getting minced meat coming in, what we were getting is what we were investing. Brooks and Joker did ok with what they had. We have more dudes in the NFL now at one time than I can remember. THE Athletic Dept has now seen we need to put money in to compete (I mean Vandy was spending more on fb than us embarasing). Thats what we have now more money to pay for a better overall coaching staff. Thankfully one with some buzz to it.

  • It's not just the money,it's 1. A plan 2. Positive recruiting,3. Identifying personnel to help execute that plan,4. Going hard and honestly after those individuals with everyone you have!

Not really but there was a walkon that we just picked up that was a 2/3 star that had offers from Western Michigan. That's pretty close.

I do feel that recruiting improved under Joker in some ways but Stoops has stepped it up a other notch.

Rich Brooks was A good man and a good football coach. Joker was a good man who loved UK but was a poor coach and a Poor recruiter. Stoops has the same tools Joker had right now except he has higher Salary. Same stadium same training rooms ect... But once Stoops went out and started working the recruiting trail like a head coach is suppose to the recruits came, the money is now coming for the stadium renovation and train grounds. All it took was a man with some ambition. Look at the recruits on here who have openly said Joker didn't recruit them even in state kids. So Blueraider22 is exactly right. insted of fighting with these smaller schools for 2 and 3 star recruits we're contending with the best in the SEC for players and winning some of em and having the same 2 and 3 stars we use to actively recruit fot scholarships walk on just to be a part of a better program. Theres really no doubt about it if your honest and look at this years class and see what Joker had recruited vs what Stoops has. GO CATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He might have been talking just about linemen. Which we don't have alot of in the NFL.

Joker in football circles is considered a great recruiter, I agree not much of a coach.

and how is what you say different from what i said. believe me though if you didnt have the money you wouldnt have the upgraded coaching staff with a plan. look at the massive amount of money USC has infused in their program the last few years. Therre is no reason we cant be right with them. But we wer'nt going to get there without investment.

Joker is NOT a great recruiter. Exhibit A - Mark Stoops. Joker is an ammature compared with Stoops, Brown, Marrow, Eliot, etc. For goodness sakes Stoops had to cut the half of Joker's recruits in this class. One of Joker's recruits just committed to Illinois State (1-AA).

Again in college football circles, people involved with college football, not us, know Joker as a great recruiter. The shit situation he was in the last couple of years who would come to UK i wouldnt. I am not saying Stoops isnt doing a good job it is great i love it, but there was no commitment to football at UK under Joker. We may be a top dog in basketball, but with all the conference unstability i believe the powers to be at UK finally realized it's football not basketball that turns the world and they finally decide to jump on. BTW, staff has as much to do with recruiting as anything and Joker's staff was horrible, but again the lowest paid staff in the SEC produced the last class in the SEC, BUT 40ish nationally is not so bad. peace

  • Joker had no buzz working for him. He sold bowl games. Stoops is saling trying to turn the program around in Jokers 3rd year he was telling us fans the team goal was 6 wins.

Those guys in the "football circles" need to come see us. We don't need their opinion we had three long years of his recruiting to tell us all we need to know.

    As for OL recruits, I don't think that's the necessarily the case that we were battling it out for MAC schools, etc - at least not all OL recruits. Darrian Miller, Zach West were pretty solid with solid offers. Per another site Jordan Watson (offers from Miss St, Miami FL, Wake Forest); Swindle had offers from Vandy (now a recruiting powerhouse), UL, WVU and some others;

Coaching, and player development were sorely lacking under Joker.....unlike Brooks' teams which always overachieved b/c he had coaches that new how to coach-up individual players.

That said, there is no question Stoops is recruiting a much higher level football player than the former two coaches.....but it's not as if our cupboard is completely bare of talent. I actually think there is a solid base of talent......enough to win more than 2 games, that's for sure. What we are seeing Stoops doing with this class is plugging in gaps where we may not be that deep, etc.

You just dont get it. If Stoops came in with the same commitment from the University that Joker had(meaning money). He couldnt have gotten the coaches he did, these top guys wouldnt have come for the money they where paying Joker's coaches and a head coach is only as good as his assistants. Dont get me wrong, again I am excited as the next guy with this new staff!!!! I have lived and died Big Blue football for 40 years and cant wait for next season. All I am saying blame for the last few years goes on the administrations back for not backing our football team. Joker brought some good players in under bad circumstances unfortunatley not enough. It's the whole staff man the guys teaching the big uglies on both sides of the ball that make the difference. Shoot look what happened to Bowden at FSU when everyone took all his assistants away the guys that came in couldnt replace the quality he lost and the team sufferred even getting good recruits. Mack Brown is the same way now. This conferance realingment thing made the administration change their ways or we would have been left farther behind. Let's look forward instead of bemoaning the past

    stonewall011

  • So your saying Joker fired all his coaches and brought in guys he didnt want? The coaches that were hired were hand picked by Joker himself. The problem is these guys see UK as a bottom tier SEC school were fans should be ok with an occasional bowl game.

    Quagmire14

  • Joker just didn't have it point blank period. And he couldn't get the guys to come work for him that Stoops has. He doesn't have the connections. But lets let it go. We've got the man we've always needed now.
