UK has offered Butch Jones....

  • I talked with the owner of that site and he said that the guy that reported that the job had been offered is very connected to the coaching and agent community and that's where he got it.

Wonder if UK is just denying it to keep things calm while Cincy still has games left?

  • If Butch Jones is the next head coach, then that proves there is NO COMMITMENT from the administration to this program. I've seen his teams many times, and am not impressed. There will be no success with his schemes against the SEC.

If they felt confident in the story they would be pushing it on their front page. It's not true. Perhaps some
Conversations have happened. Maybe even a discussion of how much it would cost But not An official job offer.

  • I'm sorry but I'm tired of that bullcrap. It's just uncalled for. Butch Jones is a great coach. It's not settling. We don't know even know how much money has been put on the table. We should withhold judgement till then. Quit jumping the gun and just wait it out.

We could clone Vince lobardi and some of these guys would be loaded at Mitch. It's called irrational thinking. A certain % of the population needs something to be miserable about.

No it's not uncalled for. We, as fans, have a unique opportunity to affect our team's future - our voices are being heard. We stand on the precipice of moving us away from mediocrity. 8-5, 7-6 is not what we should expect as a fanbase. We MUST push for better. We needs a coach that is:

    a. a proven head coach
    b. has great offensive / defensive teams
    c. great recruiter
    d. great motivator

Butch only meets one or two of these. We will not get where we need with his classes similar to UC - just won't work in the SEC. We need to seriously move the needle, starting with this hire.

You are nuts. Compared to the last 6 hires in the sec a butch jones hire would be better than all of them on paper. No other team in the last 6 hires has hired a winning bcs coach.

  • We don't need Petrino is his baggage. Besides he wouldn't be at Kentucky 2 years and he'd leave. We need a good coach that's gonna commit long term

  • Absolutely not nuts. Butch Jones will not produce in the SEC- he's barely doing it in the Big East. And I'm not a proponent of Booby Petrino either. Just need better than Butch can offer...

    Bigblutruknutz

  • Dont know if any truth to any of this , but Butch Jones is intriguing ! Reminds me a lot of Les Miles at his pressers! ..................I wonder if he will have the balls to say that only girls should kiss his football players like Les Miles said after the LSU -Ole Miss. game. HILARIOUS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Only meets 2 of those things? I'd say he meets a, half of b, c, and d. His classes are no worse than Brian Kelly's. He'a doing a phenomenal job with what he's got. He may not be a "home-run" hire, but he's a solid triple. I'll take that.

  • It simply amazes me that the culture of mediocrity that some Cat fans subscribe to permeates so much on this site. We have to look at this as an opportunity to hit this hire out of the park and put our program on the road to greatness. Listen if you want to be 6-6, then 5-7, then 7-5 you are on the mark with many of the major posters on this site. I hold myself and will hold UK to a different standard. This attitude permeates too many UKFB fans here and frankly to think like that is essentially a losing attitude.

Not producing in the Big East? Are you kidding me? He went 10-3 last year. He's on pace to do just as well. Hell, it took Brian Kelly 3-4 years to go undefeated in the Big East. It took time. If Jones stays there, he'd be on the same track. He'd be a great hire.

I will NEVER accept a triple - now is the time for better. We can do this, guys!

    Bigblutruknutz

  • Now is the time to demand MORE!!!! Absolutely correct, nashwan. We, the fans, can remain vocal and move the needle!!!

    Bigblutruknutz

  • Then who is a home-run hire NOT named Bobby Petrino?

you kind of have to considering UK plays top 25 teams oh 6 times a year.

You know, you are completely right. He's never beaten a top 25 team before. I'm so glad that I looked it up rather than pass judgement without really looking in to it. Heck, you know now that I think about it Bama lost to a top 25 team a wk ago. Their coach must suck too, huh?

We should only offer a coach who has never lost to a top 25 team. Petrino? Nope he's lost before too. I guess that leaves Kirby Smart because he's never coached before.

  • Kentucky will never get a big time coach in football. It's known to be a basketball program therefore it would be hard to hire a big time coach. I have no problem with having an up and coming coach that's proven he can win. Some people just need get back to reality and get off the pipe dream for a big time coach.

I like Butch Jones, maybe not my #1, but a solid choice for a number of reasons. I can't imagine Jones is being publicly offered the job if there is a substantial chance he says no.

Thats just it he hasnt been offered publicly not according to people I have spoken to but that doesnt mean he hasnt been offered or will be. Mitch is pretty much handling this in secret and my people havent heard anything yet for sure, so be patient there should be some news within a day or at the most 2 days.

  • Solid hire in my opinion, if it happens.

This is exactly what I am speaking of with my prior post. When we think like this, we reap exactly what we sow. Amazing.

  • 1. WHy is Jones hailed as a great recruiter?

    - Classes of 46, 49, 50 and 59 with only 1 4 star in four years. Nothing really eye opening there to me.

    2. Why would any hail him as great offensive mind?
    - Scoring offense ranked 47, 26 and 57

    3. Defensive may be his strongest part of resume.
    - 15, 20, 68

Personally, I just don't know what to do with the Central Michigan resume....not bad, but not dominating in MAC conference. But a big sign of mediocrity to me is 10-8 in Big East...not impressed with that no matter how you slice it.

All in all, not a terrible choice if it ends up...but if 3M per season is the call...that is just wasting more money needlessly. He isn't a 3M per guy and the market doesn't warrant that. And it only puts you in position to be financially handcuffed if worse comes to worse. Why you go that route first pass is just not going to the top guys and making them say no. But some on here hail anything UK does as 'Great'...so my kind of posts get labelled as negative nancy

  • I do not like the choice either but I'm not sold that ithas happened. If it has i will support it but i do not like it. These coaches are not recruiting better talent than what we have here. The difference is they are playing in inferior conferences against inferior talent.

  • I agree completely Nashwan. Read Vaught's article today. He nailed it. Fans are not coming back unless there is a true commitment by the University. I think the University got an unexpected slap in the face in that there cash cow might be milk free. It hurts everything from Academics to Basketball. . more so the Olympic sports. But they have already gotten their upgrades so they should be fine. Horrific that we are in this state after relative success during the Brooks tenure.
