UK hoops(girls) picks up a commitment

  • Kyvin Goodin Rogers committed to UK. Ranked #72 player in 2013 class by ESPN. She is from Marion Co.
Kinda odd being the daughter of a Louisville basketball player and Anthony Epps daughter is committed to Louisville.

I'll take it. Hope she can sway Makayla and then Becca Greenwell comes too. Great deal of talent at the top in state this year.

Edit:Just checked and hadn't realized it but Makayla opened up. I was thinking that Goodin-Rogers was committed to UL as well but they both withdrew their commits to UL in July. The UK system is ready made for Goodin-Rogers and Epps.

Edit#2: Didn't realize Greenwell had eliminated UK and just about every other local school. Down to Notre Dame (Novosel probably helps there) and Duke.

  • Well looks like Epps reopened her recruitment. Would love for UK to get her too.

  • Mitchell is going to turn UK Hoops into a legit contender every year. Dude is a recruiting dynamo.

You really can't say enough about the job Matthew Mitchell has done. A couple years ago, he was considered a dud hire and was on the verge of being let go but they were able to turn things around very quickly.

I think most everyone knew or felt that UK women's basketball was a sleeping giant. He has that thing rolling downhill right now.

Recruiting his ass off, plays a very entertaining brand of ball and is getting results.

Yes and it has been rumored that Rodgers and Epps would like to play together in college.

  • Coach Mitchell has done an outstanding job .I really enjoy watching them play.

  • I love watching the girls play when I get a chance. They are fun to watch, and pretty damn good. Glad to see how well CMM is doing. I like him. I would say, between our men's and women's programs, we have the best recruiting combo in the nation.

See a trend? Matthew Mitchell, Gary Henderson...Joker Phillips?

I'm torn because I'd love for UK to land Epps as it just feels like she should be one of those legacies that gets to play at UK but when we're also after one of the top prospects in the country in Tyler Scaife that plays PG as well......just a hard choice and I'm glad I'm not Coach Mitchell. Very happy he has us in that type of a situation though.

If Joker could duplicate their success on the football field, look out. Though I want to believe Joker could be as successful as those two this year, I just don't see it happening. The way football recruiting works makes it difficult to have the kind of quick and dramatic turnarounds that UK Hoops and Baseball exhibited.

Basketball doesn't require the physical maturity to be successful and baseball had been bringing in strong classes for several years, it was just a matter of fixing a couple pieces here and there. While football recruiting under Joker has been a step above anytime under Brooks, the 2010 class hurt depth (and depth is everything in the SEC where every week is a battle) and the Cats are still not bringing in the elite recruits from the top of the class to the bottom like the big dogs.

Granted, Joker has brought in several future all SEC players and I am as excited as anyone about the type of players he's bringing in, I just don't see the dramatic improvement this year as you did under Mitchell or Henderson. If we did, we're talking challenging for an SEC title...I just don't see that this year.

  • Have to add the only poster I've ever seen that would be a UK women's insider says that Epps will join Goodin-Rogers and also thinks that Kaela Davis (#2 on the Hoop Gurlz 100) and Linnae Harper (#5 on the Hoop Gurlz 100) may end up at UK. There's a huge void with Summitt no longer at UT and Mitchell seems the best placed guy to pounce on those recruits. Davis is an ex UT commit that decommitted when Summit announced her retirement and has listed us favorably since. Harper is a player from Whitney Young a school that we got a McDonald's All American from last year.

Holy smokes. That would be Cal-like recruiting if Mitchell could pull that off. Dare we dream of dual basketball national championships in the near future?

Even with that haul we'd probably have the 2nd best recruiting class. UNC has like 4 of the Top 12 recruits in the country committed.

Hadn't thought about that. With Summitt retiring, UK has a real chance to step up and grab the SEC by the tail.

  • Yup. These next few years will be crucial in changing that mentality. We just had an assistant leave for UT. That alone makes UT look like the better job. And Pat will still be around the program. I don't think UT is going anywhere any time soon.

ON paper originally I would've agreed but right now they're really struggling and haven't had a single commit in 19 months. Also Pat can't recruit for them. Since she's moved on any speaking to recruits she does would be a violation.

yep! You nailed it. People just need to be patient and Joker WILL get this program to the top half of the SEC.

UK very well could end up with both mens and womens titles in the same year here soon.
