UK offers 5-star big man

After it looked like it had all its major spring recruiting targets pretty well scouted, Kentucky has now become involved with another elite big man in the 2012 class.

  • From all the summer articles it sounded like Duke was sure in love with him...

  • When I saw him play Oak Hill I wondered why we were not all over him. He can absolutely play.

  • Seems like OSU would be able to sell him on being their next big man...super happy he isn't blown away them. After seeing Wiltjer play (not a knock at all) and knowing Cauley will need some time to develop I see this as a major need if we are going to compete for a title next season.

OSU already will have Deshaun Thomas, Evan Ravenel, Amir Williams, and Sam Thompson up front. Parker would have to wait for mins there from what I can see and at Memphis who's sure what kind of coaching he'll get. At UK he probably starts next to AAU buddy Poythress and Wiltjer depending on what Bennett decides as he's the only other target we have right now that might usurp Parker from our starting line up.

  • Think this new development is one reason Duke is turning heat up on Amille Jefferson. Read somewhere where they are needing bodies, big bodies. Assumed they would get one of the bigger kids and or Parker. Think the kid that went to Mich and Ariz. Coach K has followed this kid as close as any kid in awhile, was there waiting for him when he returned from UCLA visit. This would be a big beatdown if happens. Coach K and staff have been in Ga more than Jimmy Carter.

Duke is needing another player desperately, Jefferson is different type player but maybe this is why Duke was there this week.
    IMO

I still wouldn't rule out us getting both Parker and Jefferson. Very different type players and should be able to coexist. If that's pulled off though think you could rule out UK and Bennett.

  • This is a perfect fit for the Cats to go along with Poythress and Wiltjer on the frontline. He and Cauley would give you two different types of bigs to work in, one very offensive-oriented and one a defensive stopper.

Plus, in addition to Cauley and Wiltjer, UK just needs some beef. Parker would certainly fit the bill.

No one has done less with more as Pastner has. Memphis is done or soon will be as a 5* recruiting school. The only reason it's lasted this long is because Pastner got really lucky the year after Cal left and had a lot of talent right in Memphis. Pastner sucks.

Bennet is a better prospect and it's not even close. Bennet is a solid top 7 5* prospect. Parker is a 4* guy.

You shouldn't. No one does. But when you factor in that one has a high possibility of not making the grade, you move in another direction.

What I found interesting is that I don't consider Wiltjer, Cauley or Parker ready to leave after next year. The past few years we have lost Harrelson, Cousins and Davis soon.

And Bennett has so much baggage with qualifying apparently it's going to be a struggle to get him into any school. The kid hasn't taken a visit yet because at last check he still hasn't even taken the ACT or SAT. After waiting so long if you're Cal you just have to move on to someone you know you can get like Parker and Jefferson.

Honestly for our needs I don't know that Bennett is all that better of a fit. Bennett is the better offensive player yes but Parker is likely the better rebounder of the two based on what little I've seen. Parker is also 2 inches taller and 20 lbs heavier so he's the beefy space eating post to couple with the finesse Wiltjer and the more athletic long big Cauley that the team is already set to have.

You shouldn't. But Bennett is no guarantee. If you can get involved with Parker, why not? Cal cannot afford to miss very often this spring. UK needs bodies in a big way for next season.

But Parker is no slouch. Offers from Duke, Ohio State, UCLA, Memphis, Georgetown. He's elite.
